EmSAT Practice – Part One – VocabularyThis is part one of a series of worksheets focusing on specific skills to prepare for EmSAT. Some tasks will begiven to Production teachers and some, like this vocabulary task, to Comprehension. This practice worksheet is modeled on the latest version of the EmSAT. It has the same number of questionsfor each section and each part is leveled appropriately.VOCABULARY SECTIONLevel#Indicative timeVocabulary 1 MCQA26 Qs3 minsVocabulary 2 MCQB194Vocabulary 3 MCQB294Vocabulary 4 MCQC163This worksheet is produced on paper so that students can make notes and work together in pairs/groups if youwish. It also ensures that you can pace the exercise to ensure that students attend to specific features of thiskind of question. They will have additional online practice (CGEs/ Blackboard) that they can use to practise theonline skills in the test.Suggested procedure. Print both practice papers - the lines are tightly spaced to save paper and ensure each worksheet can beprinted back-to-back.Hand the students the first worksheet with no answers. This is designed to encourage students to payattention to the prompt. (students might work in pairs for this part) Focus on: Meaning / context of question Part of speech for missing word What answers might make sense in this context. Why?Also explain how the difficulty of the vocabulary increases with each part, along with the number of wordsthey need to know. We expect them to get nearly all of parts 1&2 correct and most of part 3. Hand out second worksheet – students might work individually on this part.(Swap papers?) Go over answers for each question – explain why each answer is the BEST answer. (Someof these have distractors that might fit in the context, but are not the best answer) Student use their score to get an EmSAT level – they should be aiming for B2 or above – Naturally, explainto them that they won’t have all this help in the REAL exam!
