During their visit we were able tohighlight our programs and services as well as answer questionson advocacy, accessibility and how we work with our clients toovercome barriers that prevent full participation in communitylife. In November 2017, we were faced with the aftermath ofHurricane Irma and Maria. CIL partnered with FEMA and SecondHarvest Foodbank distributing 700 pounds of food to familieswith disabilities. In addition, CIL was invited to be a part of Orange CountiesLong Term Care Recovery group which has enabled us to do homemodifications for those with disabilities who sustained damage totheir homes. While we did receive additional funding from theDepartment of Elder Affairs allowing seniors to remain in theirhomes, our waiting list for home modifications and durable medicalequipment continues to grow making funding for our Foundationsto Freedom program our biggest need.We continue to look for opportunities to expand ourservices from our Lakeland office which includes Polk, Hardee,Highlands and DeSoto. As we celebrate the work we have done and look to expandthe work we do in the future, we owe a debt of gratitude tothe volunteers, donors, sponsors, and corporate and communitypartners that help us reach and support Central Floridians withdisabilities. You are crucial to helping us achieve our mission ofempowering people with disabilities to achieve their goals ofindependence. With your continued support, we look forward to theupcoming year.Sincerely,Elizabeth HoweMellissa Slover- AtheyExecutive DirectorBoard Chairwww.cilorlando.org
