SolderTacts ContactsOne-piece, controlled-solder contacts forfast, reliable terminations

SolderTacts ContactsThe outer SolderSleevetermination is a cross-linkedheat-shrinkable insulatingsleeve supplied in theexpanded state. Cablesinsert easily, with no spacersor other parts required. The precision outerbody meets electricalengagement andcontact retentionrequirements of individualconnector systems. The inner SolderSleevetermination is a heatshrinkable sleeve with aprecisely prefluxedsolder preform conformingto QQ-S-571.The outer solder preformcontains precise amounts ofsolder and flux conformingto QQ-S-571. One-piece contact design with integratedsoldering technology Controlled reflow soldering process yields reliable, consistent terminations 360 shielding reduces crosstalk and improvessignal transmission One-step installation process One contact fits multiple cable sizes Reflow solder joints are strong and reliable Terminations are fully inspectable Termination available for coax cables, shielded pairs, twisted pairs, and triaxial cables Compatible with a variety of commercial andmilitary connectors 150 C temperature ratingApplications Commercial Aerospace Military Aerospace C4ISR Ground Defense Military Marine Missile Defense Offshore/Civil Marine SpaceInner pin and socketcontacts are permanentlyfixed within the assemblyto provide proper setbackand concentricity.Product Specification D-6002: SolderTacts Military-Grade Electrical Contactsfor Solder TerminationApplication Tooling Steinel HL1910E or HL2010E Steinel HL1802E-074616 Raychem AA-400 Raychem CV-1981 Raychem CV-1983Consistent, Reliable TerminationsOne-piece controlled-reflow-solder SolderTacts contactsare designed to terminate coaxial cables, shielded wires andtwisted pairs faster and more reliably than other methods.SolderTacts contacts help eliminate the variables of crimping. The one-step installation process helps cut down onproduction time while reducing handling and installed costs.Controlled Soldering StRain ReliefSolderTacts contacts provide the optimum amount and typeof solder and flux in a prefluxed solder preform that controlssoldering and reduces operator sensitivity. The geometryof the coaxial cable is carried through the connector toeliminate separate pins, help reduce crosstalk, and supportsimproved shielding effectiveness and signal transmission.1Literature No. 1-1773722-5 · Rev. 11/2013

The dielectric between innerand outer contacts providesconcentricity, electricalintegrity, precise matingdimensions, and closed entryat the inner socket. These contacts contain two solder sleeve terminations. One terminator connects the cable’s signal conductor to thecontact’s inner pin. The other terminator connects the shield orground lead to the contact body. When the contact is heated, the solder melts to provide a precise solder connection.SolderTacts contacts provide a simultaneous electricalconnection and strain relief. Heat shrinkable tubinginsulations help eliminate stress concentration on thewire within the contact.Easy InspectionTransparent insulation and inspection windows maketerminations fully inspectable. The shield terminationcan be inspected throughthe viewing port.Improved Signal IntegrityFor digital and RF signals, SolderTacts contacts offer bettersignal transmission than obtained with crimp contacts. Theyreduce crosstalk, signal attenuation, and reflections, whileproviding excellent protection against outside noise.CompatibilitySolderTacts contacts are compatible with a wide rangeof circular and rectangular military and commercialconnectors, including MIL-DTL-38999, MIL-DTL-83723and MIL-DTL-28748. Compatible with most standardconnector cavities, SolderTacts contacts are intermateableand intermountable with contacts qualified to the aboveconnector specifications. They use standard insertion andextraction tools.EconomicalThe one-piece construction and heat-shrink design makeSolderTacts contacts easier to use. There are no separatepieces to handle, no complicated assembly procedures, and no special tools requiring constant calibration. Thecontrolled-solder termination is repeatable and reliable inproduction environments.2Literature No. 1-1773722-5 · Rev. 11/2013ToolingTE offers a range of heating equipment for terminatingSolderTacts contacts. The contacts use the standardinsertion/extraction tools for each connector eachconnector series.SolderTacts ContactsIn the terminated signal lead, the heat-shrink tubing shrinkstightly around the terminationto insulate and strain relieve theconnection. The tensile strengthof the soldered terminationsexceeds that of the cable itself.
