For Your SafetyTo prevent damage to your Nikon product or injury to yourself or to others, readthe following safety precautions in their entirety before using this equipment.Keep these safety instructions where all those who use the product will read them.The consequences that could result from failure to observe the precautions listedin this section are indicated by the following symbol:This icon marks warnings, information that should be read before using this Nikonproduct, to prevent possible injury.WARNINGSTurn off in the event ofmalfunctionShould you notice smoke or anunusual smell coming from thecamera or AC adapter, unplug the ACadapter and remove the batteryimmediately, taking care to avoidburns. Continued operation couldresult in injury. After removing ordisconnecting the power source, takethe equipment to a Nikon-authorizedservice representative for inspection.Do not disassembleTouching the internal parts of thecamera or AC adapter could result ininjury. Repairs should be performedonly by qualified technicians. Shouldthe camera or AC adapter break openas the result of a fall or other accident,take the product to a Nikon-authorizedservice representative for inspection,after unplugging the product and/orremoving the battery.iiDo not use the camera or ACadapter in the presence offlammable GasDo not use electronic equipment inthe presence of flammable gas, as thiscould result in explosion or fire.Handle the camera strap withcareNever place the strap around the neckof an infant or child.Keep out of reach of childrenParticular care should be taken toprevent infants from putting thebattery or other small parts into theirmouths.

For Your SafetyObserve caution whenhandling the batteryThe battery may leak or explode ifimproperly handled. Observe thefollowing precautions when handlingthe battery for use in this product: Before replacing the battery, turnthe product off. If you are using theAC adapter, be sure it is unplugged. Only use a Rechargeable Li-ionBattery EN-EL5 (supplied). Use theBattery Charger MH-61 (supplied) tocharge the battery. When inserting the battery, do notattempt to insert it upside down orbackwards. Do not short or disassemble thebattery or attempt to remove orbreak the battery insulation orcasing. Do not expose the battery to flamesor to excessive heat. Do not immerse in or expose towater. Replace the terminal cover whentransporting the battery. Do nottransport or store with metal objectssuch as necklaces or hairpins. The battery is prone to leakagewhen fully discharged. To avoiddamage to the product, be sure toremove the battery when no chargeremains. Discontinue use immediately shouldyou notice any change in thebattery, such as discoloration ordeformation. If liquid from the damaged batterycomes in contact with clothing orskin, rinse immediately with plentyof water. Observe the followingprecautions when handlingthe battery chargerKeep dry. Failure to observe thisprecaution could result in fire orelectric shock.Dust on or near the metal parts ofthe plug should be removed with adry cloth. Continued use couldresult in fire.Do not handle the power cable orgo near the battery charger duringlightning storms. Failure to observethis precaution could result inelectric shock.Do not damage, modify, forcibly tugor bend the power cable, place itunder heavy objects, or expose it toheat or flames. Should the insulationbe damaged and the wires becomeexposed, take it to a Nikonauthorized service representative forinspection. For Your SafetyUse appropriate cablesWhen connecting cables to the inputand output jacks, use only the cablesprovided or sold by Nikon for thepurpose, to maintain compliance withproduct regulations.Handle moving parts withcareBe careful that your fingers or otherobjects are not pinched by the lenscover or other moving parts.CD-ROMsThe CD-ROMs supplied with thisdevice should not be played back onaudio CD equipment. Playing CDROMs on an audio CD player couldcause hearing loss or damage theequipment.Observe caution when usingthe flashUsing the flash close to your subject’seyes could cause temporary visualimpairment. Particular care should beobserved if photographing infants,when the flash should be no less thanone meter (39 in.) from the subject.ivDo not operate the flash withthe flash window touching aperson or objectFailure to observe this precautioncould result in burns or fire.Avoid Contact with LiquidCrystalShould the LCD monitor break, careshould be taken to avoid injury causedby broken glass and to prevent liquidcrystal from the monitor touching theskin or entering the eyes or mouth.
