President’sMessageGreg Semmel, NASPD PresidentThe last time I visited New York City I was 8years old. I was at the 1964 World’s Fair. Iremember the Monorail and the dinosaur exhibitalong with this big globe made out of steel andpipe in front of a big building. I never thought thatI would be in the steel business wanting to supplysteel fabricators that very steel. Now 42 yearslater I’m going back to New York and I have noidea of what to expect.I hear it’s the city that never sleeps. I guess Ishould have visited when I was younger and ableto test that title. I have seen pictures of the TwinTowers before and after 9/11; I can’t imagineseeing the remnants of these two magnificentstructures and what they now represent.President’s Message 3I haven’t been able to meet everyone in theorganization and that is truly my loss. I hope to beable to visit with you soon.Make no mistake about it, Susannah and Gail runthe organization. It’s that plain and simple. Weshow up and look for some things to complainabout and find them few and far between. Can anyone of you imagine working for 200 differentbosses? We all have our own whims and quirks andmiraculously most of those are handledeverywhere we go. I assure you we as a group arenot easy to please. Somehow these two find a wayto minimize our discomfort and sensationalize ourthree days away from the office. As my term expires, I share the memory of someof the great places we’ve visited over the last 10years. I never would have visited these, norexperienced their unique settings of a conference.I know I would be drowning if it weren’t forSusannah throwing me a lifeline at every event. She makes sure we have scripts for every possibleperson, place and thing. She and Gail coordinateall the speakers, gifts and transportation; theyattend all the meetings; they line out all the minutesand still find time to hash out the financials for theorganization. They do site visits to make sure wewill to be overwhelmed with hotels, meetings, venues and tours along with the theme dinners.Cancun, San Francisco, Denver, Houston,Boston (I liked Boston so much I sent my wifeand her father there to experience the history),Vancouver, Montreal, San Antonio, Las Vegas,San Diego, Portland, Lake Tahoe, Phoenix, NewOrleans, Jacksonville, Miami, and Orlando. (Istill think we can do Hawaii, sometime.) What acountry! What an organization! Our committee chairs and volunteers for thecommittees are unsurpassed. These angels go tomeetings on Thursday while everyone else isgetting to their rooms and relaxing. They take ontasks and complete them without issues.Everything you see, everything you do, and everydollar you spend in your Association passesthrough these peoples’ hands. They make sure thatP & W INDUSTRIES, L.L.C.68668 Hwy. 59P.O. Wehave quite a few that go the extra mile and don’twant to be in the limelight so I won’t embarrassthem now. You should know who they are and ifyou don’t, just ask a board member. They can sendyou in the right direction. We have a training program that is outstanding. Idare anyone to match our experience andknowledge. This whole program started as an ideaabout 8 or 9 years ago and has blossomed intowhat I feel is the highest level of pipe educationone can experience in a two-day program. Thisallows our members to send their new salespeopleor employees to a place where they can get anoverview covering most everything they need tobe able to sell or work in a steel pipe distributor’sbusiness. This program isn’t inexpensive, but it’sworth every penny. Think how long it would takeyou to teach each new employee all theinformation needed to work for you. Our nexttraining program is in Houston this October; spacewill be limited so sign up early.Someone said successful people are the ones thatsurround themselves with smarter, brighter andmore energized people than themselves. If that istrue, I’ve been very successful these last twoyears. I would like to hire the board to work atOmega Steel so I can vacation more.See you in New York!Port of New Orleans SteelTonnages Restored toPre-Katrina LevelsDuring the NASPD 2006 Convention in March, Jim Reese, amarketing representative with the Port of New Orleans, was aSaturday morning speaker. He discussed the status of the restorationand return of the port as a great American port since the devastatingblow of Hurricane Katrina. In April, the Port of New Orleansannounced that steel, its leading commodity, had returned to preKatrina tonnage levels. From January toAugust of 2005, New Orleans averaged 271,468 shorttons per month of imported steel products. Cargo figures released inApril show that within four months of the storm, steel bounced back toits pre-Katrina average. In December, the Port handled 269,881 shorttons of steel and in January it handled 326,917 short tons. The number of ships arriving in the Port of New Orleans returned tonormal levels of about 20 - 22 ship calls per week by the end ofFebruary. The last week in April 28 ships were scheduled to arrive inthe Port of New Orleans.Gary LaGrange, President and CEO of the Port, says that the quickrecovery can be attributed not only to the hard work and cooperation ofthe Port industry but also to the loyalty and upward trend in the steelindustry.(Cont. on pg. 5 - NEW ORLEANS)

We haveBud Siegel with Russel Metals speaking onconsolidation, and Jo Isenberg-O’Loughlin,the Editor ofAmerican Metal Market to giveus an industry update. Mittal SteelCompany is sending their General Manager– Global Energy Pipes, Sanjiv Goel to speakon “Global Outlook for Pipes from aSteelmaker’s Perspective.” The President ofTATA will discuss India’s position in theworld market; we have the Chief USNegotiator on China’s 1999 Market AccessAgreement speaking on current and futuretrade issues concerning our industry. It is quite an honor to have Stephen G.Humenesky, Queens Firefighter, speak atour Fall Conference about his experience atthe World Trade Center on 9/11. Afterapproaching numerous policemen andfiremen in the New York area and theorganizations that represented them, itquickly became clear that New Yorkers stillfind it difficult to talk about that day. It wasonly through our Program Chairman MikeEvans and his connections that we were ableto get our speaker to agree to tell his story. Itis an important story that most of us outsideof New York don’t know on a personal level. The five year anniversary of 9/11 is theMonday before our conference. Whilemuch time has passed since then, thewounds are still very fresh on the city thattook the brunt of the hit. Thanks again to thehard work of Mike Evans and many otherWe have our second Certification Programscheduled in Houston at the Post OakHilton, October 11 and 12, 2006.Promotional material will go out soon. Youwill also be able to register and get all thesame information online atwww.naspd.com. The first program wentover even better than we expected. I want togive special thanks to Don Bohach forgetting the program off the ground andGerald Merfish and Bill Buckland fortaking the lead on our second session. Theydo all the behind the scenes work to put thisprogram together. Also, the program wouldnot be possible if it were not for ourpresenters who take the time out of theirimpossibly busy schedules to put thisprogram together and present it to ourparticipants.MARK YOUR CALENDARS2006 Fall ConferenceThe Westin New YorkSeptember 14-16, 2006New York City, New York2007 Annual ConventionMarch 1-3, 2007Westin RiverwalkSan Antonio, TX2007 Summer ConferenceJune 21-23, 2007Willard InterContinentalWashington D.C.2007 Fall ConferenceLate October 2007Cancun, Mexico2008 ConventionFebruary/March 2008Las Vegas, Nevada2008 Summer ConferenceJune 2008San Francisco, California2008 Fall ConferenceSeptember/October 2008Boston, Massachusetts

DispatchesOutlookContinued strong demand for steel millproducts is expected for the balance of2006. IPSCOs steel mill capacity is fullycommitted through the third quarter of thisyear, and we anticipate similar demandwhen we open the fourth quarter orderbook. Operations are expected to maintainstrong performance, as scheduledmaintenance outages are minimal duringthe remainder of the year.We expect energy prices to remain highand therefore continue to drive highdrilling activity and demand for OCTGproducts. In addition, our large diameterspiral pipe facilities are booked at fullcapacity through the third quarter of 2007.We expect margins to be stable for the lasthalf of the year. Excluding the effects offoreign exchange gains or losses and shareprice volatility, and assuming an effectivetax rate of 38.3%, we forecast third quarter2006 earnings to be in the range of 3.30 to 3.50 per diluted share.GROWTH CONTINUES AS THE BAYOU COMPANIESANNOUNCE EXPANSIONNew Iberia, LA - On June 9th the BayouCompanies held an officialgroundbreaking ceremony for a new eightmillion dollar, 50,000 square foot FusionBonded Epoxy pipe coating plant locatedat the Port of Iberia in New Iberia,Louisiana.
