LET-LOK TUBE FITTINGSDESCRIPTIONThe HAM-LET GROUP has produced high quality tube and pipefittings in various materials for high pressure applications since itsestablishment in 1950.CONNECTORSAs a result of tremendous efforts in research and development duringthe last five decades, HAM-LET has gained an excellent reputationas a leading manufacturer of high pressure instrumentation products. The LET-LOK range of connectors has been developed to fill therapidly increasing demand for tube fittings suitable for high pressureuse in environments such as petrochemical, fluid, power, nuclear, electronic, as well as other major industrial settings.LET-LOK tube fittings have been carefully manufactured towithstand the persistent demands for high-performance tube fittings. Each one has passed a stringent tolerance test for high pressure, impulse, vibration, vacuum and temperature. These precisionmachined fittings are manufactured to exacting standards, employing the most modern state-of-the-art computerizedautomation. All LET-LOK fittings are backed byHAM-LET‘s commitment to the highest quality-controlstandards and skilled craftsmanship.LET-LOK HOW DOESIT WORK?The LET-LOK tube fitting is a mechanismused both to seal and to grip tubing. The mechanicaladvantage and geometry of this kind of fitting producesa leak-tight assembly. To assemble, simply insert the tube into the completeassembly until the tube bottoms-out against the shoulder of thefitting body(1). The two ferrules are driven forward between the nut(4) and fitting body using the mechanical force created by rotatingthe nut clockwise. The back ferrule (3) is driven against the taperedrear of the front ferrule (2) and the front ferrule is driven by forceinto the tapered mouth of the body. The rear ferrule is swaged radially inwards on the tube while liftingthe front ferrule out to form a full-faced seal on the tapered surfaceof the body. The 11/4 turn of the nut from the hand tight position assuresconsistent drive of the sealing members. This ensures an effectiveseal against high pressure as well as ultra high vacuum conditions.4Tube1321. BODY8TUBE FITTINGS CONSISTS OF FOUR PARTS:2. FRONT FERRULE 3. BACK FERRULE 4. LET-LOK fittings are supplied, assembledand finger tight. Disassembly before use canallow the entry of dirt or other particles.REASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONSINSPECTION GAUGELET-LOK connections may bedisconnected and remade repeatedly, without the loss of the leaktight seal.1. Before disconnecting, mark theposition of the nut in relation to thefitting body.2.To reassemble, use a wrench totighten the nut to the original position.3.Tighten slightly with a wrench until aslight rise in torque is felt.Use: This is a “No-Go” gauge andshould be used as follows:TUBE CUTTINGInsert the tubing into theLET-LOK fitting.Check that the tube rests firmly on thefitting shoulder and that the nut is fingertight. At this point it is recommended thata scribe mark be drawn on the hex of thenut extending onto the fitting body. Thismark will serve as an indicator for thestarting point and proper pull-up.Two differnet methods can be usedto cut tubes1. Tube Cutter2. HacksawTUBE CUTTERTo attain a leak free connection, the tubingmust be cut squarely. A good quality tubecutter with an appropriate blade for tubingmaterial is recommended. Do not try toreduce the time of cutting by taking deepcuts with each turn of the cutter. This willwork harden the tube. The end of the tube must be deburred toavoid damage to the fitting and to ensurethat the tube reaches the bottom of thefitting.HACKSAW CUTTINGTighten the nut.1-1/4 turns of the nut are requiredfor 1/4” (6 mm) and higher (see Fig. A).3/4 turn of the nut is required for 3/16”(4 mm) and lower (see Fig. B).1. Make up the fitting according to thefollowing instructions:1/4 inch (6mm), 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch(12mm) make up 1-1/4 turns from thefinger tight position.2. Check gap between nut and body, using the appropriate sized gauge. If the gauge slides easily into the gap, tighten the nut further until gaugecannot enter the gap.In order to cut the tube with a hacksawand get square ends, the tube must becut with guide blocks. This method of cutting necessitatesdeburring of the tube ends.WarningGauge entersgap. No good, tighten furtherGauge doesnot enter gap.GoodFor Gauge Ordering Information:see page 91.Do not hold the tube in a vise in the placewhere it will be inserted into the fitting (thevise will leave a mark on the tube that maycause leaks, and might cause ovality).Figure ATUBE HANDLINGScratches on the tube might cause leaks. It is, therefore, important to handle thetube carefully to reduce the risk of leaks.SOME PRECAUTIONS TO BETAKENFigure B1.Tubes must not be dragged on the floor.2.Tubes must not be dragged out ofa tubing rack, especially in cases of largeO.D. tubes.COPPER TUBINGIf using copper tubing from a roll, hold theend of the tube and roll the roll outwards, allowing the tubing to lie on a flat surface.HAM-LET ADVANCED CONTROL TECHNOLOGY9CONNECTORSLET-LOK FITTINGS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
