Chapter 1: Installation1. Installation1.1 Contents of the packageBefore starting the installation you should:1. Check the contents of the package to ensure it iscomplete. The package must include: NiceLabel Suite CD-ROM User's guide Hardware key (not available with all versions)2. Read the READ.ME file on the CD-ROM for latestinformation.If any of the mentioned items is missing, please contactyour software vendor immediately for packagereplacement.Should you require any information about NiceLabelproduct range, please visit NiceLabel website athttp://www.nicelabel.com.1.2 System RequirementsTo run the program you will need at least the following: IBM Personal computer (or compatible). APentium or more powerful, is recommended. One of the 32-bit Windows operating systems:Microsoft Windows 95/98, Me, NT, 2000 orXP.Installation guide1-1

Chapter 1: Installation At least 32 MB RAM memory. VGA or a higher graphic display. A mouse is recommended. Hard disk with 15 to 65 MB of free disk space(depending on the installation options). CD-ROM drive. BDE (Borland Database Engine) interface. If itis not already available on the computer, setupwill install it.1.3 Software installation proceduresWhen you insert the CD-ROM in CD-ROM drive, theauto-run demonstration/installation program isautomatically started. Just follow on-screen instructionsto look at NiceLabel demos and install the application. Ifautorun program doesn't start automatically, pleasedouble-click START.EXE in the root directory ofNiceLabel CD-ROM.To manually install NiceLabel software or to makeadministrative changes and reinstall some NiceLabelcomponents, run SETUP.EXE program from appropriateDisk1 folder under SETUP folder structure on the CDROM.To install NiceDriver for your thermal transfer printer runPRNINST.EXE from Drivers folder on the CD-ROM.Please note!If you are using Windows NT, 2000 or XP, you have tolog on as a user with Administrator rights to properlyinstall the software.Through the installation, you can click Exit button toabort the process of the installation. You can clickPrevious button to get back to the previous step or clickNext to proceed with installation.1.3.1 Installing NiceLabel softwareClose all currently running applications. Then click theappropriate buttons in a NiceLabeldemonstration/installation program. For example: to1-2Installation guide

Chapter 1: Installationinstall NiceLabel Suite, you should click Setup buttonand then NiceLabel Suite button. Wizard-driveninstallation will be started. Follow on-screen instructions.To begin with the setup procedure, first the workinglanguage must be selected. Default language correspondsto the language of the default Windows system locales. Ifyou prefer, you can also choose some other language inthe list. Select your favorite language and then click theNext button to proceed with the setup.If you are upgrading from some of previous versions ofNiceLabel software that is not compatible with currentversion, you are offered to uninstall the previous versionfirst. For example, this happens if you make an upgradefrom NiceLabel Express to NiceLabel Pro or fromNiceLabel Pro Standard to NiceLabel Pro. All existinglabel files will remain intact during the upgradeprocedure. When uninstall of previous version iscomplete setup will continue.Read the Welcome, License Agreement and Readmeinformation. Then click Next button to continue.The setup will further ask you to enter the username andthe company name. If this information already exists onyour computer, the setup will use the existing names. Ifyou have one of the Standard versions of NiceLabelsoftware (they do not have support for printing to thermalprinters) you can also enter the serial number of youNiceLabel copy. You can find it on the inner side ofNiceLabel Manual cover.Installation guide1-3

Chapter 1: InstallationUser information dialog boxIn the SETUP OPTIONS dialog box, select theinstallation options and the folder to install the programin. You can accept the default or choose a folder of yourchoice by clicking the Browse button. Click Next whenyou are finished.Types of installations are: Typical Installation - installs components,appropriate for typical use of software only inthe selected language. Minimum Options And Disk Space - installsonly minimal set of components needed forNiceLabel application to work correctly. Helpand sample files are not installed. Full Installation - installs all NiceLabelcomponents in all available languages. Custom Installation - you can select whichcomponents are installed after clicking the Nextbutton.1-4Installation guide

Chapter 1: InstallationSetup options dialog boxIn the next dialog box you select language(s) that will beinstalled and available in NiceLabel software. Normallythe selection of default system language is sufficient. Butin case you need to use several languages at once or wantto select your native language, here can make the choice.Hold down Ctrl key and click the languages to select.Note that this dialog is not displayed if you selectedMinimum options and disk space installation option.Installation guide1-5

Chapter 1: InstallationLanguage selectionIf you selected Custom installation, another dialog box isshown, that allows you to further customize which partsof software package are installed. If the selectedcomponent can be partially installed, the Details buttonwill become available allowing you to further customizeyour selection.Click Next button to proceed.Custom setup dialog boxInstall Options Overview dialog box informs you aboutthe current setting of the installation and the drive spaceneeded for the installation. Review the install options andmake any necessary change to the selection. Whensatisfied click Next button to begin copying files to yourhard disk.When setup finishes copying files, you are offered toinstall the printer driver. Click Next to begin installing orFinish to skip the driver installation. Note that driverinstallation begins only if you are installing NiceLabelsoftware from the CD-ROM. Select the printermanufacturer and model.After installation the computer must be restarted if someapplication keeps connection to some system files andNiceLabel setup cannot update them. Click Cancel button topostpone restarting Windows, but remember to restart itbefore using NiceLabel software.New program group for NiceLabel software will becreated in the Start menu, containing icons for allexecutables. Shortcut to main NiceLabel application willbe also placed on the desktop.1.3.2 Installing NiceDrivers for your label printerNiceLabel software can be used to design and print labelsto standard office printers (laser, inkjet, matrix.) or toprofessional label printers. If you own a label printer, youhave to install the appropriate printer driver before theprinter can be used in Windows environment.A collection of NiceDrivers for printer models of allmajor printer brands is provided on your NiceLabel CDROM. NiceDrivers are true Windows thermal/transferlabel printer drivers and can be used from any Windowsapplication for label printing, but best results and printingoptimization are achieved from NiceLabel software.Using provided Printer Installation Wizard To start NiceDriver installation for yourparticular label printer please insert NiceLabelCD-ROM in the CD player. Main installationapplication should auto-start. If not, start Windows Explorer and browse tothe CD-ROM, there double click the programSTART.EXE. On the main menu select the option Install. Thelist of all NiceLabel software products availableon the CD-ROM will be displayed. Click theoption NiceDrivers to start installationprocedure. Wizard-driven installation will bestarted. From the list of all supported printer brands andmodels select your printer. Select the port, where you have connected yourprinter and click Finish to install the printerdriver.Installation guide1-7

Chapter 1: InstallationUsing Windows classic Add Printer WizardThe recommended method is to use provided PrinterWizard installation utility PRNINST.EXE. Alternativelyyou can install NiceDriver for your printer using classicWindows method. Open Control Panel from Settings in Startmenu. Then double click the Printers icon. Printers dialog box will be displayed showingall already installed printers on your system.Double click the Add printer icon to startinstallation procedure. Follow the Add Printer Wizard steps. The actualsteps vary depending on your Windowsoperating system version. It is only important toclick the Have disk button in a step where youcan select printer manufacturer and model. Insert NiceLabel CD-ROM into your drive (ifnot already present) and browse to the folder\Drivers. Select the folder with your printerbrand name. Click Open/OK buttons to return tothe Add Printer Wizard. The list of all available printer models ofselected brand will be displayed. Choose yourmodel then click Next button and finish theinstallation.Please note, Windows 2000 and Windows XP mightprompt you to cancel the installation procedure, asNiceDrivers do not have digital signature by Microsoft. Itis safe to continue with installation at this point.NiceDrivers indeed haven't been certified by Microsoft,but have been subject of intensive pre-release testing atEuro Plus. They are true Windows drivers, providingstable operation on all 32-bit Windows platformsincluding Windows 2000 and XP.1-8Installation guide

Chapter 1: Installation1.3.3 Running setup at a later timeIf you want to remove or add the component, go to theControl panel and select NiceLabel from Add/Removeprograms dialog, or simply rerun the setup program fromNiceLabel program group.Setup type dialog box when setup is run at a later timeIn the dialog box you can select Add or RemoveFeatures to add or remove the desired NiceLabelcomponent(s). Reinstall will repeat the last installationby copying all the previously selected files all over againand so correcting the incorrect installation (missing orcorrupted files). If you select Remove All, all installedcomponents will be removed from your hard disk.1.4 Installing HASP hardware key (full version ofNiceLabel software only)Hardware key is required for NiceLabel software to runproperly. Without it NiceLabel Express works in DEMOmode, allowing only 5 labels to be printed concurrently.Hardware key has to be attached to the computer whereNiceLabel software is installed.Please note! Standard versions of NiceLabel software arenot equipped with a hardware key. Skip this section ifInstallation guide1-9

Chapter 1: Installationyou have purchased NiceLabel Suite Standard orNiceLabel Pro Standard. In this case use a provided serialnumber to make your NiceLabel software fullyfunctional.1.4.1 Installing HASP parallel hardware keyPlease follow these steps to successfully install hardwarekey: Shutdown your computer and switch off yourprinter. Connect the hardware key directly to theparallel port (marked as LPT or PRN port) onyour computer. Parallel port on your computeris easily to recognize. It is the only 25-pinfemale port at the back of your computer case.Please note: Never try to connect it directly to aprinter or to a serial port on the computer. Youcan permanently damage hardware key as wellas your computer equipment. Connect the hardware key to this port in such amanner that pins on the key plug into holes inthe computer port. Fasten the two screws tosecure the key in place.Please note: Do not remove the screws or try toturn them inside out. If you own a printer with a parallel port, pleaseconnect one end of the parallel printer cable tothe hardware key and the other one to yourprinter.If you own a printer with serial port, pleaseconnect one end of the serial printer cable to theserial port on your computer and the other oneto your printer.Please note: If you own a serial printer, youcannot connect it directly to the hardware key,because the connectors are not compatible (bothare female connectors). Always connect yourserial printer to the serial port, and hardwarekey to parallel port. It is not necessary for yourprinter to print "through" the hardware key.1-10Installation guide

Chapter 1: Installation1.4.2 Installing HASP USB hardware keyIf your NiceLabel package is equipped with USBhardware key instead of the parallel port equivalent, toinstall it just plug it into the available USB port and youare done.Note, Windows NT operating system does not nativelysupport USB devices; Microsoft never developed thenecessary driver. That is why first you will have to installUSB driver to your system. A proprietary USB driver hasbeen provided on your NiceLabel CD-ROM. Follow theenclosed installation instructions in the file USB4NT.ZIPin the folder \Updates\HASP.1.4.3 TroubleshootingProblems can occur if you need to use bi-directionalfeatures of your parallel port to which the hardware key isconnected. If your printer stops working properly, whenconnected to the hardware key you should re-install ahardware key device driver with different command-lineparameter. Device driver installation is available onNiceLabel CD-ROM in the folder \Updates\Hasp.This program is HINSTALL.EXE. Run it with followingparameters:HINSTALL -i -portmode bidiorHINSTALL -i -portmode ecpWhen the device driver is installed, please restartWindows. First try the first option, then the second one.More information about command-line parameters isdisplayed if you run the utility with parameter /?HINSTALL /?Installation guide1-11

Chapter 1: Installation1.5 Notes about the Borland Database Engine (BDE)BDE is a library of programs needed for database access.Programs in NiceLabel suite use this library to access thedatabases on your computer.NiceLabel requires some specific settings in BDE thatneed to be made by the installation program. Thesechanges might interfere with other applications that useBDE to access databases.So, if you have other applications installed that use BDE,please check BDE settings after installation of theNiceLabel is complete. If necessary, use the BDEAdministrator program to set the values that you want.1-12Installation guide

If you cannot solve theproblem on your own, please contact your local softwarevendor, from which you purchased your copy ofNiceLabel software.
