Our Life2018TogetherOctoberOctober 2018A monthly publication of Ustick Baptist Church 1Our Life TogetherReaching and equipping all ages for a lifetime of following JesusPastor Greg ReiderSenior PastorPlanning for Our FinancialFuture“The mind of man plans his way,but the Lord directs his steps. ”Proverbs 16:9The book of Proverbs has a lot to sayabout our call as Christians to plan forthe future even with regards to thefinancial resources that God blessesus with. It even uses the example ofants that “prepare food in the summerand gather provision in winter(Prov. 6:8). Then later in Prov. 10:5the author Solomon “connects the dots”in application to believers by saying,“He who gathers in summer is a sonwho acts wisely, but he who sleeps inharvest is a son who acts shamefully.”(Prov. 10:5) The point is to plan andprepare for the future in order to haveyour needs met!An Opportunity to Plan for OurFutureWith this admonition in mind fromScripture to plan for our future(including financially), I am excited thatour church will be sponsoring an “EstatePlanning Seminar” on Sunday afternoon,Nov. 4 at 12:45pm. (Please seeinformation page later in Newsletter.)This will be an opportunity for us tohear from Financial Planning Ministries(FPM), a non-profit Christian ministrythrough Aaron Bear who serves withMission Aviation Fellowship (MAF).For over 30 years as a Christianorganization FPM has providedstewardship and estate planningseminars and assists people in thecreation of personal estate plans. Asa partner ministry, MAF covers thecost for this and will include sometime to share that they are one of themany Christian organizations from anestate that you can give to, not the leastof which is our church! Why this Planning Seminar is NeededSix out of 10 Americans pass away eachyear without a will. Most people don’trealize that even at younger ages you dohave an estate because of your house. Most people don’t realize that every willgoes through the long process of probate(that can often take anywhere from ninemonths to two years). However, that canbe greatly reduced through having aliving trust. We want to inform ourchurch family that there can be a betterway to be good stewards of God’sresources in the present and the future.Consider this Your PersonalInvitationI am thoroughly convinced that if yousign up for this seminar you will beplanning for your financial future ina way that follows the “ant” but mostimportantly follows God’s admonitionof good stewardship. We know that thefuture is uncertain and that only Godknows what is to come. But we alsoknow that Prov. 16:9 tells us “that themind of a man plan his ways” even asit concludes “but the Lord directs hissteps.” We still are to plan even as wehold loosely the steps God may lead usin! I invite you to join us in planningyour financial future regardless of what“estate” we may have.Avoid Being a “Sluggard”!In Prov. 6:6 we are told “go to theant, O sluggard ” I used to tease mykids growing up with that label of“sluggard” (especially when they sleptin as teenagers!). But it is an appropriateadmonition that laziness is called out byour Lord regarding planning ahead. SoI pray with this invitation to our “EstatePlanning Seminar” that you will plan toattend a chance to prepare for the futurefor yourself and God’s resourcesreleased for His glory!Serving with you,

Our Life TogetherOctober 20183Discipleship & ConnectionsWorship MinistryPastor Mike BeaudinPastor Daniel Reider“Greetings and welcome to Awana, glad you are here tonight!”That is normally what I have been saying to folks as they comeon Monday night to Awana. What an incredible blessing to see theimpact of this ministry on so many lives because of the gospel ofChrist, God’s Word, and so much love from such amazing volunteerleaders who are investing into each life, whether clubber, parent, or leader/helper!Here’s our beloved Awana Commander,Scott Dykstra on “Caped Crusader Night”in the bright YELLOW cape, as he isgreeting clubbers and also training a newvolunteer leader, Ed Walker! Thanks Scottfor being the wonderful servant leader youare heading up Awana for our church. Andthank you Ed (plus all of our volunteers!)for serving as well! Only eternity will fullyreveal the full impact and difference made in these precioussouls. To say you all are appreciated is a HUGE understatement!THANK YOU!This same night, I was asked (by Christine Bowman who issecretary for Trek & Journey clubs), “Pastor Mike can youpossibly help us in the Trek & Journey guys as they need tosay their verses and we are short of leaders tonight!” To whichI replied, absolutely! Here is a picture of these young men who aregrowing in their faith as Christ followers/disciples! They are servingas student leaders in the younger clubs first, before they get to saytheir sections/verses! What a blessing to hear them quote Matthew20:28 that says “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Praise God!Fall is in full swing, and there are a ton of things happening in ourchurch at the moment. One of the most exciting things for me andfor our family is the re-starting of our Growth Group. Althoughit’s nice to have a little extra time on Sunday afternoons duringthe summer, we really miss the fellowship and the prayer and thediscussions that take place with our dear friends in our group. Ihope that you have found a home in a Growth Group yourself, andif you haven’t, you know that Pastor Mike or I would be happy toget you plugged in somewhere! In the Worship Ministry we continue to do our best to lead youall in praise to the Lord each week. It has been a change and a bitof a challenge to go back to two services, as it means that worshipministry people are often at church for six hours on Sundays. Ican’t thank God enough for all of our amazing volunteers whospend so much of their time during the week and on Sundayspreparing for and facilitating worship services. If you get achance, take a moment to simply say thanks to them when yousee them—they all truly have a heart of service and are a hugeblessing to our entire church family.Speaking of the Worship Ministry, those of you with a keen eyemay have noticed that the front screen has looked a little bitdifferent lately. That’s because our old projector is on the fritz, and we are currently using a backup one. The Worship Ministryhas put a proposal in for upgrading our projector and our screenso that everyone will be able to see things better. Our hope is thatthis would help everyone be able to not only see words moreeasily, but especially to view things like videos, pictures, andillustrations with better clarity. For example, the video from ourAfrica missions team that we watched last week would ideally bea lot bigger and clearer, so we would not have to squint so muchto see it!As always, it is a privilege to minister alongside you all, and Ipray that God is growing you and drawing you closer to Him asthis season of fall progresses! Then.that same night, I asked my mother, Louise, this question “If you knew that the Lord wanted you to serve Him for 30 minutes, would you do it?” To which she replied, “You asked me that manyyears ago up in North Idaho when help was needed in our Awanaministry there to listen to these children/youth say their memorizedverses and the answer is still the same. Yes! As long as the Lordallows me to serve Him, I will, and am available.” So thanks andwelcome back mom as an Awana worker/helper/volunteer! I lovethis quote from the founder of Awana, Art Rorheim (who went tobe with Jesus earlier this year), “It takes us all!” How very true!So whether you serve in Awana or any other ministry of our churchas a volunteer in any way On behalf of a very grateful pastor (me)and our church leadership! THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!

Our Life TogetherOctober 2018Jr/Sr High YouthPastor John BurenSeptember was a great month in the Blaze youth group: We had a great hike at Table Rock last Saturday, completewith lunch anddevotions at the topnear the cross. Our series on Jonaheach Sundaymorning was funand eye-opening.I loved seeingstudents engaged inthe very relatable Old Testament story of God using animperfect vessel to save a nation from destruction. Our Breakthru series on Wednesday nights has been such agood time and full of new and familiar faces. I’m so thankfulfor each student, each volunteer, each parent and each personwho prays; allowing us to do the ministry we do.I’m looking forward to a lot of things in October. On Sundaymornings we’re starting a new series in youth Sunday Schoolcalled “Who’s That?” - it’ll feature info and insight on some ofthe lesser known characters in the Bible and their stories. OnWednesdays we’ll focus on being a Christian in what is oftentimes a non-Christian culture.I’m also looking forward to our fall retreat October 12-14. I lovethe ability to hang out with students outside of church. Some ofthe best times chatting can happen in a caron a road trip or waiting in a super long linefor a rollercoaster. We’re taking an extra daythis year to have some more time devoted to Bible study andprayer. Students that want to go can sign up and grab a permissionform upstairs in the youth room. Cost is 45, plus money for food.October is also the month that Julie and I get to take a neatvacation. We’ll be gone for two weeks mid to late October formy brother’s wedding in Hawaii. I’ve never been there beforeand am looking forward to spending time seeing the sights withmy wife.I think it’s so cool our church isputting on a Harvest Festival thisfall. The thing that excites me ishow much potential for outreachexists with this event. Some things I know include: There is Biblical precedence in using the culture’s calendarto reach out with the Gospel. Our church is a great place for families to take their kids to. Families are looking for something good to do with their kidson the day of Halloween. What we’re offering is the best thingfor families to be at.I also know we need a lot of help, and it’s not too late for youto get involved. If you can volunteer, pray, or bring candy (orpreferably all 3) please let me know. There’s a job you canhelp with! The Harv-Fest is October 31, 6-8pm (note theupdated time).4Interim Children’sMinistry CoordinatorCarmen Conant“Maybe they each should have some Playdoh to keep their handsbusy.” – Sunday School teacher“It’s an amazing robot” (holds up playdoh mess) – excited child“We got her to go to Sunday School for the first time it was thePlaydoh.” – mother of a 2-year-old“I want it!!!! Waaaa!!!” – small child“It’s a Christian Emoji, made out of playdoh.” – church kidThis week we interviewed the PlaydohC: Playdoh, thanks for joining us today.“Thanks for having me Carmen.”C: We would like to hear from the unsung heroes of children’sministry. From those who make a difference without ever beingrecognized. Playdoh, we never hear about your part in children’sministry. Would you please tell us what you do in children’sministry?“Well Carmen, playdoh is kind of the ‘jack of all trades’ inchildren’s ministry. You must show up with a heart for servinganywhere you are needed. Sometimes you are a Bible storyillustration, sometimes your job is to keep little hands busy toallow little minds to focus, or you may be needed in crafts, mostoften you get called in for playtime. Then there are times whenits best for you not to be in the classroom at all. I just focus onwere I’m most useful at the moment.”C: That’s such an important job, Playdoh. Your attitude is soinspirational. How do you keep serving so faithfully?“You know it can be hard especially the times when I’m notneeded for a few weeks in a row. That’s when I remind myself tobe faithful, because every Sunday the children are being taughtGod’s word and His word will not return void. Any part I can playin spreading God’s word that is compliantly worth it whatever I’mneeded for. I also cherish the little moments. You never knowwhen one will come, but every now and then you will see the lightin a child’s eye as they understand something for the first time. Orwhen the tears that came when mommy left stop as small fingerssquish me for comfort. Nothing can take those moments awayfrom me.”C: What a wonderful perspective, Playdoh. If you had a favoritepart of children’s ministry what would it be?“That’s a tough one Carmen. I love it all but, if I was to choose itwould be: when I get to be with the kids during play time. I lovehearing them prattle on about whatever comes to mind, kids saythe funniest things.”C: As our time comes to an end, do you have anything that youwant to say about how we can help you in your children’sministry work?“Pray! Pray for yourchildren. Pray for theirparents. Pray for thechildren’s ministry workers. All the Playdoh in the worldcan never replace the work ofthe Holy Spirt in a child’slife, a parent’s life, or a teacher’s life.”C: Thank you for taking the time to meet with us today, Playdoh.

(Dan. 2:18)This is a very good example for us tofollow. Sometimes we run off withoutGod and make hasty decisions that laterprove to be unfruitful.
