WHY NATURAL GASNatural gas is safe, reliable, clean, and green!NATURAL GAS SAFETYDid You Know? Natural gas supports energyindependence;Natural gas has no smell, so we addan unpleasant, rotten egg-like odor.If you think you smell natural gas orhave an unsafe condition, leave thearea immediately, and then call PGW at215-235-1212. Natural gas is clean burning andleaves no soot or ash behind;For your safety, if you smellgas, do not: Choosing natural gas from PGWmeans supporting local jobs andboosting the local economy; By choosing natural gas, youcan reduce your carbonfootprint and decrease yourhome’s environmental impactby almost 40 percent. Use electrical devices. Use an open flame, matches,or lighters. Try to locate the source of thegas leak. Try to shut off any natural gasvalves or appliances. Start vehicles.2

Install a battery-operatedCO detector in your home. Try to put out the flames if naturalgas ignites. Re-enter the building or returnto the area until a qualifiedrepresentative says it is safe todo so. Replace batteries in yourCO detector. Never use an oven or gas rangeto heat your home.PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINSTCARBON MONOXIDE Avoid burning charcoal inenclosed spaces.Carbon monoxide (CO) is anodorless, colorless, poisonous gasthat can cause illness or death. If youneed assistance making monthlypayments, PGW can help.With CRP, income-eligible residentialcustomers have one less worry. CRPgives discounts to customers bycharging a monthly amount based onhousehold size and income insteadof natural gas costs. CRP also allowscustomers to eliminate past due charges.Payment Arrangements Eligible PGW customers who havefallen behind on their gas bills canapply to pay back their arrearsover time. Trouble PayingYour Bill?Crisis Grant ProgramLIHEAPLow Income Home Energy AssistanceProgramLow-income customers can also applyfor a Crisis grant to restore service oravoid shut-off.LIHEAP is a federal grant programthat helps customers in need paytheir heating bills. Grants are basedon household size and income and itdoesn’t matter if you rent or own.To qualify, customers must: Meet the federal poverty guidelines; Be in danger of termination or utilityservice needs to be restored.To qualify, customers must: Meet current federal poverty levelguidelines;Applications must be submitted ata designated Crisis Intake Site. Third-party Notification ServiceUESFUtility Emergency Services FundThe third-party notification serviceensures that if an enrolled customerreceives a shut-off notice, PGWalso sends a copy of the notice to acustomer-designated caregiver, familymember, or organization. Third-partyrecipients do not receive copies ofmonthly bills.A privately funded grant provided forlow-income customers to help pay offthe balance of their utility bills.UESF Grant Guidelines: Only available after all publicsources of support have beenexhausted;CARESCustomer Assistance Referraland Evaluation Program Matched by PGW up to the grantamount;A referral and information programto help customers with specialcircumstances (i.e., medicalemergencies, unemployment, andhardships) pay their utility bills. OTHER SERVICEOPTIONSGas ChoicePGW can provide both natural gas supply and gas distribution services tocustomers. However, Pennsylvania’s Gas Choice program allows customers tochoose a natural gas supplier other than PGW and potentially save money.As part of this program, unless you opt out, PGW is required to provide naturalgas suppliers with your name, address, account number, and natural gas usagehistory so they may promote their services to you. You may opt out of having eitheryour natural gas usage information, or any of your account information released tonatural gas suppliers.PGW encourages you to shop regularly on the Public Utility Commission website,PAGasSwitch.com. For more information about how Gas Choice works or to optout, visit ndlord ProgramsSign up for PGW’s landlord programs forresidential and business customers to get propertynotifications when PGW is asked to shutoff gas,needs to perform service work, and when thereis PGW related collection activity.
