“Optimize your TCO withour bearing solutions.”Steve QuintijnRegal Beloit

Regal Beloit Corporation (NYSE: RBC) is a leading global manufacturer of airflow, motioncontrol, power transmission and power generation solutions used in commercial, industrialand residential applications. From electric motors and generators to mechanical geardrives, bearings and couplings to electronic controls, Regal’s products and systems convertpower into motion and motion into power to help the world run more efficiently.Regal has sales, engineering, manufacturing and distribution facilitiesthroughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.Power Transmission Solutions - one of Regal’s business segments - is much more thanan array of well-respected product brands. Together they provide solutions. Solutionsthat deliver superior performance. Solutions that blend the latest in technology with theiryears of experience and expertise. Solutions that keep your business moving ahead. We meet Steve Quintijn in Regal’s EMEA Bearing Headquartersin Kontich, Belgium. Steve is marketing / product manager forRollway, McGill and Sealmaster at Regal Beloit in the PowerTransmission Solutions business segment. He is since 6 years withthe company and has a vast experience in international marketing.“One of my first jobs was at the Belgian MarketingFoundation where I had the pleasure to work inan environment with marketing, advertising andcommunication leaders. That was the true start of mymarketing passion. After that period, I have been workingfor international leading companies like Epson (printingbusiness), Komatsu (mining and construction equipmentmanufacturer) and Altran (global leader in innovation andhigh-tech engineering) before entering the bearing worldin 2011. Komatsu has been my longest experience tillnow with almost 8 years of service in the Belgian location(EMEA parts distribution center and European machinesales center).”How does your experience help you in yourcurrent job?in 1908, Rollway provides over 7.000 different types ofball and roller bearings. These bearings can be usedin various industries like oil & gas, mining, agriculture, and various applications like pavers, harbor cranes, gearboxes, steel mills and many more.McGill was founded in 1905 and patented the CAMROL cam follower bearing, which today is offered in morethan 1.400 different combinations and configurations.McGill products also include aerospace bearings, needleand single row spherical bearings. Sealmaster, themaster of mounted bearings, was founded in 1935 andis the industry’s preferred bearing product, known for itspremium-quality mounted ball-bearing line, as well as itsmounted roller bearings.“Do you focus on specific industries?“Belgium is a small yet important country in internationalbusiness. Business has brought me in many countries inEMEA, Asia and the Americas and I have learned to blendin in other cultures. Knowing the basics about a culturelike history, gestures, sensitive subjects and liking thelocal food still opens many doors. My previous functionsalso helped me getting a close view on several industrieslike earthmoving equipment, food & beverage and I haveworked with great people in Kaizen, systematic innovationand lean manufacturing.”“Due to the very diverse and international customerbase we have, I am more of a generalist working closelytogether with our industry specialists and engineers. Thepast years I have been to many customers and have seensuccessful applications in very diverse industries. Maingoal with all these customers is optimizing their TCO withour bearing solutions. For instance, a famous Europeanbrewery was doing many actions for lean and cleanoperations and wanted to find a solution for the excessivelubrication of their bearings.Which bearing brands do you have in yourportfolio? We advised them our Sealmaster PN Gold reducedmaintenance bearings that do not require any additionalre-lubrication. This was a durable and environmentalhealthy solution for the brewery. There was also a hugepotato chips plant where starch was a nightmare for the“Rollway, McGill and Sealmaster are the main bearingbrands we support from our location in Belgium. We were ableto satisfy the customers’ needs with Sealmaster PN Goldand even overachieved the set target, we doubled thelifetime of the previous installed bearings. Rollway is aninteresting brand since we have a range from very smallup to the large sizes. My favorite is ball bearing 618/1500,because on the outer diameter it’s as tall as I am. Thisbearing is used in a centrifugal casting machine and thecustomer choose Rollway because the brand they usedbefore didn’t reach the desired life.A sweet solution was provided in the food industry wherewe provided spherical roller bearings that are mounted ina chocolate refiner. For a chocoholic like me it’s good toknow we were able to reduce the customers’ downtime. You can also see us in many harbors as one of the world’sleading RTG cranes (Rubber Tired Gantry) OEM’s usesseveral sizes and types of our Rollway bearings as first-fit.Rollway bearings do what they need to do: they keep theapplication moving.“There are many success stories for every brand, so alsofor McGill. A fish processing plant was incurring sizeablecosts to maintenance and repair of their machines withstandard cam followers that seized due to the corrosiveenvironment. Our stainless steel CRES CAMROL producthas been designed to operate in these taxing conditions, improving machine reliability and extending operatinglife. This fish processing plant uses equipment specificallydesigned to remove viscera and roe.The standard cam followers installed within the machinesare exposed to highly corrosive conditions. Consequently, standard cam followers corrode and seize, resulting indamage to the cam in which they ride. The cost incurredto replace the entire cam is prohibitively more expensivethan simply replacing the cam follower, and machinedowntime creates significant production inefficiencies forthe plant. To help reduce these significant replacement costs,Regal recommended the dimensionally interchangeableMcGill CRES CAMROL line, which is designed with 440Cstainless steel to help resist corrosive environments. The Lubri-Disc seal also provides significant protectionagainst wash downs, more than 5 times compared toour standard Lubri-Disc seal. To further improve bearinglife, we recommended a crowned outer diameter, whichallows for greater misalignment while maintaining evenload distribution. Always great to see a customer smilewhen we provide solutions!”What do you expect from 2017?“I keep Conan O’Briens quote in mind: ‘If you work reallyhard, and you’re kind, amazing things will happen’. Get intouch to see which magic we can do for you and your TCOin 2017.”“Sealmaster, McGill and Rollway will beat the HannoverMesse trade show inHannover, Germany from 24 till 28April. Come visit us in Hall 24 in theEPTDA Pavilion.”Page: 33

Do’s and don’ts of camfollower installationIf you have cam follower bearings installedin your facility, then maintaining a greatperformance from those bearings will besomething you are interested in. You can helpobtain great bearing performance if you keepsome particulars in mind during installation.DO1.Do install the oil hole plug in applicationswhere the bearing will not be re-lubricated.Because it’s an optional part of the installation,in applications where re-lubrication willbe performed, the user may be inclined todiscard the oil hole plug. Installing the plughelps protect the bearing from contaminantentry, such as fine grit, metal dust or liquids, promoting longer life. Longer life means lessdown time and fewer bearing replacements.Plugs are provided with all McGill stud typecam followers, so better safe than sorry.2.Using a press fit on the stud helps to createproper support of the stud in application; itcan be used when installing stud-type camfollowers. Press fitting is when you have aninterference fit requiring you to apply pressureon the stud end face of the bearing. Be sure toapply the pressure through the stud end face, preferably using an arbor press.3.Specifically, for the yoke type bearings:please do back up the bearing’s end plates.Yoke type bearings require a housing tosupport the end plates. Do not shirk onkeeping the end plates supported. Keepingthose end plates supported maintains thebearing’s proper assembly in operation, andhelps avoid premature application breakdownand possible injury due to disassembly. It willalso prevent unnecessary bearing replacementand unnecessary cost.4.You may know that stud type cam followersrequire a certain amount of torque applied tothe locking nuts, in order to adequately lockPage: 34Scan the QRcode to watchThe Do’s andDon’ts ofCam FollowerInstallationon our PowerTransmissionSolutionsYouTube channelthe stud in place. Clamping torque info isprovided in our bearing catalog, as wellas in instruction sheets. Do torque McGillbearing nuts accordingly! Those charts arethere for a reason. Overtorque can causebearing damage and undertorque can allowbearing disassembly. Excessive torquecan result in stud elongation or fracture.Inadequate torque can allow the camfollower to become disassembled fromthe housing. Keeping the proper torque asshown in the bearing’s chart will maintainclamping pressure adequate to lock thestud in place, keeping the bearing in itsintended position.5.Some applications need littlemaintenance, such as those involvingslower speeds, fairly clean environmentsand ambient temperatures. However,re-lubrication becomes more crucialas application speed, temperature, orcontamination levels increase. Do regularlyinspect and as necessary re-lubricateyour bearings. Keeping your bearings intop condition maximizes their operationalperformance and life. Regular check-insare also a good opportunity to inspectthe state of their installation and workingenvironment.DO NOT1.During installation, do not hammerdirectly on the bearing! Doing this cancause damage to your bearing or injury tothose involved.2.Don’t neglect your bearings. I don’t needto tell you that negligence can result inpermanent damage and shorten operatinglife. In short, you’re wasting money.Steve QuintijnProduct Manager Bearings EMEAPower Transmission SolutionsRegal BeloitMcGill.PTSolutions@regalbeloit.comBearing News Issue 7

Total Cost Of Ownership TCO defined TCO is defined to be the total cost to own and operate a piece of equipment over its useful life. Keysight has developed a TCO model for the Test and Measurement industry comprised of the two core elements of capital expenses (acquisition costs) and operating expenses.

growth on glass coated with transparent conductive oxide (TCO). In pursuit of future NW based solar cells based on axial or radial p-n junction, an important and crucial component is the search for a low-cost TCO material for top or the bottom contact. So far, indium tin oxide (ITO) is the preferred choice of TCO [11,12] in industrial appli .

An analysis of total cost of ownership (TCO) per link finds site rental and rates dominate, accounting for around half of the five year TCO. Operation and maintenance is around a quarter and equipment capex, a fifth. These proportions reveal that TCO is much more sensitive to site related costs than equipment pricing.
