ULTIMA XIRULTIMA XULTIMA XEULTIMA X Series[ State-of-the-Art Gas Monitoring ]3

ULTIMA X Gas Monitors[ Providing a unique Range of Capabilities ]ULTIMA X are state-of-the-art gas monitors for continuousdetection and monitoring of combustible gases, toxics andoxygen concentration. The ULTIMA X series of gas monitors is available with catalytic sensors for combustible gas and electrochemical sensors for toxic andoxygen [ULTIMA XE] or infrared forcombustible gas [ULTIMA XIR].The state-of-the-art design provides ease of use and maintenanceand notably the XIR technology’soutstanding long term accuracyextends the calibration interval. The monitors can be deployed asstand-alone units, but also providea 4 to 20 mA output for connection to controllers. In addition, theULTIMA X3 range now supportsModBUS RTU communication withPLC, DCS or other control systems. All ULTIMA X series monitors areprotected by a rugged, explosionproof stainless steel enclosure andare suitable for indoor and outdoor applications in virtually anyindustry including offshore operations.2

ULTIMA X[ Highlights ] 3!!! ULTIMA XIn addition to all thebenefits of the ULTIMA Xseries, X 3 gas monitorshave digital communication capabilitiesand feature up to threesensors at the sametime at a single device.Sensor Change under PowerMSA’s patented sensor designallows for quick and easy sensorchanges in the field, even inhazardous areas.[catalytic and electrochemicalsensors] Interchangeable Smart SensorsPre-calibrated sensor modules areready for installation out of thebox. No tools are needed to mountthem in the field. Sensor changesare recognised, signalled on thedisplay and indicated by the LEDs.[catalytic and electrochemicalsensors] Versatile DisplayThe liquid crystal display alternatesbetween gas concentration andgas type, and features scrolling textdiagnostic indications.!!! 15 m maximum Unified Hardware DesignA single device with three sensingoptions: catalytic, electrochemicaland infrared absorption. The ULTIMA X series with unifiedsingle board electronics marksthe state-of-the-art in monitoringcombustible and toxic gases andoxygen. Onboard LEDs and RelaysOptional “quick check” LEDs atthe display unit provide systemcondition indications at a glance, even from a distance. Four optionalfield-programmable relays providethree levels of alarm and faultoutput.5

Sensors[ Installation and Operation ]Allowing for variable sensor placement, ULTIMA X series gas monitors have multiple enclosureentries for left, right or bottomwiring. The monitors are alsosuitable for remote sensingapplications, with up to 15 mbetween sensor and electronics. The modular design allows forpre-installation and wiring of themain enclosure at early stages ofsite construction. Main electronicsand calibrated sensors can beeasily added at commissioning toreduce risk of loss or damage andmaximise sensor life.IR sourceULTIMA X catalytic and toxic“Smart Sensor” modules store allcalibration data internally, allowing convenient sensor presettingand calibration in the workshop.Calibration in the field is alsopossible, e.g. if required by regulations. No tools are needed forconnecting or disconnecting sensormodules, and power to the monitor can remain on.Explosion-proofenclosureCover with windowSensor enclosureInterchangeablesmart sensorUniversal sensor guardElectrochemical/Catalytic SensorAnalyticaldetectorBeam splitterReferencedetectorSapphire windowElectronics withfront panel displayand optional LEDsCombustiblegas cloud[ ULTIMA X IR Technology ]An electronically modulatedsource of infrared energy and twodetectors convert the infraredenergy into electrical signals. Eachdetector is sensitive to a differentrange of wavelengths in the infrared spectrum. The source emission is directed through a windowin the main enclosure into anopen volume. A mirror, protectedby a second window, directs theenergy back into the main enclo-sure and onto the detectors. Thepresence of a combustible gas inthe open volume will reduce theintensity of the source emissionreaching the detector, but not theintensity of the source emissionreaching the reference detector. The microprocessor monitors theratio of these two signals and correlates this to a % LEL combustible reading.Mirror7

ULTIMA X3 Technology[ Digital Data Transfer and up to3 Sensors per Monitor ]The ULTIMA X3 has all thebenefits of the ULTIMA X seriesand is also capable of digitalcommunication. A maximum of31 ULTIMA X3 transmitters can beconnected to the same line viaModBUS RTU. Since ULTIMA X3units can be equipped with up to3 sensors each, 93 sensors in allcan share a single signal line. The wiring effort is minimal.[ Multi-Sensing System ]!!!!!!Various combinations of electrochemical, catalytic and infrared sensorsavailableRemote diagnostics feasible thanks tosensor condition transmissionsGas monitor’s “scrolling display” showsall its sensor typesULTIMA X3 monitor operates as slavedevice on the networkOptional remote sensor installationallows for a maximum distance of 15 mfor each sensorInternal relays can be configured for3 different common alarms or oneindividual alarm for each sensor[ ModBUS Network Example ]ModBUSmasterunit 18unit 2unit 31
