STOW MS-70 PLASTER/MORTAR MIXER — RULES FOR SAFE OPERATIONDANGERRead this manual!Failure to follow instructions in this manual may leadto serious injury or even death! This equipment is tobe operated by trained and qualified personnel only! This equipment is for industrial use only. The following safety guidelines should always be used whenoperating the STOW MS-70 mortar and plaster mixer:GENERAL SAFETY DO NOT operate or service thisequipment before reading this entiremanual. This equipment should not be operated by persons under18 years of age. NEVER operate this equipment without proper protectiveclothing, shatterproof glasses, steel-toed boots and otherprotective devices required by the job. NEVER operate this equipment when notfeeling well due to fatigue, illness or takingmedicine. NEVER operate this equipment under the influence ofdrugs or alcohol. ALWAYS wear proper respiratory (mask),hearing and eye protection equipment whenoperating the mixer. NEVER place hands inside the drum while the bladesare rotating. Whenever necessary, replace nameplate, operation andsafety decals when they become difficult read. Manufacture does not assume responsibility for anyaccident due to equipment modifications. NEVER use accessories or attachments, which are notrecommended by Multiquip for this equipment. Damageto the equipment and/or injury to user may result. NEVER touch the hot exhaustmanifold, muffler or cylinder. Allowthese parts to cool before servicingengine or mixer. High Temperatures – Allow the engine to cool beforeadding fuel or performing service and maintenancefunctions. Contact with hot! components can causeserious burns. The engine section of this mixer requires an adequatefree flow of cooling air. NEVER operate the mixer in anyenclosed or narrow area where free flow of the air isrestricted. If the air flow is restricted it will cause seriousdamage to the mixer or engineand may cause injury topeople. Remember themixer's engine gives offDEADLY carbon monoxidegas. ALWAYS refuel in a wellventilated area, away from sparks and open flames. ALWAYS use extreme caution when working withflammable liquids. When refueling, stop the engine andallow it to cool. DO NOT smoke around or near themachine. Fire or explosion could result from fuel vapors,or if fuel is spilled on a hot engine. NEVER operate the mixer in anexplosive atmosphere or nearcombustible materials. An explosion orfire could result causing severe bodilyharm or even death. Topping-off to filler port is dangerous, as it tends to spillfuel. Stop the engine when leaving the mixer unattended. Block the unit when leaving or when using on a slope. Maintain this equipment in a safe operating condition atall times.WARNINGStarting the Mixer EngineNEVER! start the engine or engage the paddle armswhen the drum is in the discharge (down) position.PAGE 10 — STOW MS-70 MIXER — OPERATION MANUAL — REV. #2 (08/09/06)

STOW MS-70 PLASTER/MORTAR MIXER — RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION ALWAYS stop the engine before servicing, adding fueland oil. NEVER run engine without air filter. Severe engine mayoccur. ALWAYS service air cleaner frequently to preventcarburetor malfunction. ALWAYS check the machine for loosened threads or boltsbefore starting. ALWAYS be sure the operator is familiar with proper safetyprecautions and operations techniques before using mixer. ALWAYS store equipment properly when it is not beingused. Equipment should be stored in a clean, dry locationout of the reach of children. DO NOT operate this equipment unless all guards andsafety devices are attached and in place. CAUTION must be exercised while servicing thisequipment. Rotating and moving parts can cause injuryif contacted. When towing, an adequate safety chain must be fastenedto the frame. See Towing Guidelines section in this manual. Keep all inexperienced and unauthorized people awayfrom the equipment at all times. Unauthorized equipment modifications will void allwarranties. Check all fasteners periodically for tightness. Also checktowing tongue bolt, lock nut and wheel lug nuts for wear. Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug beforeallowing anybody’s hands in the mixing drum. NEVER pour or spray water over the engine or electricmotor.Stand Clear of theMixer when in useAlways stand clear of the dump handle when the mixeris in operation. Any binding of material between the mixerblades and the drum will cause the drum handle to quicklymove and could cause bodily harm.WARNINGTRANSPORTING ALWAYS shutdown engine before transporting. Tighten fuel tank cap securely and close fuel cock toprevent fuel from spilling. Drain fuel when transporting mixer over long distancesor bad roads.MAINTENANCE NEVER lubricate components or attempt service on arunning mixer. ALWAYS allow the mixer a proper amount of time tocool before servicing. Keep the mixer in proper running condition. Fix damage to the mixer immediately and always replacebroken parts. Dispose of hazardous waste properly. Examples ofpotentially hazardous waste are used motor oil, fuel andfuel filters. DO NOT use food or plastic containers to dispose ofhazardous waste.EMERGENCIES ALWAYS know the location of the nearest fireextinguisher and first aid kit. MS-70 PLASTER/MORTAR MIXER — OPERATION AND SAFETY DECALSMachine Safety DecalsThe STOW MS-70 mortar and plaster mixer is equipped with a number of safety decals. These decals are provided for operatorsafety and maintenance information. Figure 4 below illustrates these decals as they appear on the machine. Should any of thesedecals become unreadable, replacements can be obtained from your dealer.Figure 4. STOW MS-70 PLASTER/MORTAR MIXER — GENERAL INFORMATIONApplicationThe STOW MS-70 series mixers (drum capacity of 7.0 cu. ft./198liters) are shipped completely assembled and have been factorytested and are ready for use. This mixer is only intended for the production of plasterand mortar. The mixer must be used for its intended purposeand is not suitable for the mixing of flammable or explosivesubstances. The mixer must not be used in an explosiveatmosphere. This mixer has a batch capacity between 2-1/2and 3-1/2 bags.Power PlantsThe STOW plaster and mortar mixer can be powered by aHonda GX240K1HA2air-cooled, 4-stroke gasoline engine ora 1.5 HP electric motor. Refer to Table 2 for specific engineor electric motor data information.ElectricalIf mixer is equipped with an electric motor, make sure thatthe power being supplied to the motor corresponds to thevoltage rating label on the motor. Supplying the wrong voltageto the electric motor will cause severe electrical damage tothe motor.Always make sure the OFF/ON switch on the electric motoris in the OFF position before applying power. It is strongly recommended when inserting the mixer'spower cord into a receptacle, that a G.F.C.I. (Ground FaultCurrent Interrupter ) receptacle be used (115 VACapplications).Extension CablesThe extension cable should be a 3-wire configuration thatincludes a ground wire that conforms to UL code. The wirecross section must be a minimum of 2.5 mm2. Choose anextension cord of adequate current carrying capacity as referenced in Table 6. Remember cable distance affects thecurrent-voltage capacity of the extension cable.Ensure that the extension cable is carefully laid out avoiding wet areas, sharp edges and locations where vehiclesmight run over it. Avoid allowing the extension cable to betrapped underneath the mixer.Unroll the extension cable fully or it will overheat and couldcatch fire. Make sure that all extension cable connectionsare dry and safe. Replace any defective or badly worn extension cable immediately.HardwareCheck all hardware on the mixer before starting. Periodicallyinspect all hardware. Loose hardware can contribute to earlycomponent failure and poor performance. Use Table 4 asgeneral guideline when torqueing of mixer hardware isrequired. Remember to keep all mixer hardware componentstight.Table 4.
