Getting StartedFitting Your HeadsetFitting your headset properly is the key to comfortableuse and superior Active Noise Reduction (ANR)capabilities. To gain peak performance fromthe ANR feature it is necessary to have a solidseal around your entire ear combined with asymmetrical fit on your head. The following tips will assist you in achieving theproper fit.A. Fit your ears entirely within the ear cupsproviding a solid seal.B. Rest the headband lightly on top of your head withthe right and left sliders extended to equal lengths.4C. Position the microphone 1 8 inch from your mouth, with the gain adjustment cap facing away fromyou (visible when you remove the mic muff ).This side of the microphoneshould face away from you.

Getting StartedBattery InstallationBattery TypesThe standard Zulu.2, Zulu.2:CD and Zulu.2:C battery–powered headsets require two AA batteries (included).Use alkaline batteries for best performance.Use two “AA” alkaline or lithium batteries. Lithiumbatteries may provide improved battery life incolder temperatures. We do not recommend usingrechargeable batteries or mixing battery typesand brands.A. Open the controller battery/DIP switch doorby either pressing down on the circle icon orby pulling open the door along the notchededges. Insert two AA batteries with the correctpolarity positioning.B. The LED flashes GREEN when charged batteriesare in use and the power is on.C. When batteries begin to run low the power LEDflashes RED. If the LED flashes RED during flightthe headset will continue to operate. Install newbatteries as soon as possible at any indication oflow batteries.Battery LifeA set of batteries can provide up to 40 hours ofpower. However, heavy Bluetooth usage cansignificantly reduce battery life. Under quietconditions Zulu.2 will auto shut off approximatelyfive minutes after the headset is removed fromyour head.5

Using Your Zulu.2 HeadsetMatching Stereo/Mono Setting to an Audio PanelComPriority The Stereo/Mono DIP switch setting should matchthe signal from your audio panel. For a stereo panel, best performance is gained by setting the headsetfor stereo. The same is also relevant to a monopanel. Incorrect settings result in communicationsbeing heard in only one ear. The Stereo/Mono DIPswitch does not affect auxiliary devices, so you canenjoy auxiliary audio in stereo regardless of how theStereo/Mono DIP switch is set.ComPriority is turned on or off by the bottom-mostcontroller button. With ComPriority on and whenradio communications are detected, the volumeof auxiliary devices will be significantly reduced. Toenable ComPriority, turn on the feature, plug intoyour intercom and talk into the headset microphonewhile playing music over a wired device. If enabled, your auxiliary music will decrease when you start totalk. During cell phone calls, the other party will bemuted, so disable ComPriority before making calls.Front Row Center Front Row Center is a built-in feature that gives youa theater-like experience, enhancing stereo soundreproduction so that audio seems to come from allaround you, not just from your right and left.8Wired Auxiliary DevicesZulu.2’s wired auxiliary input allows you to connectto cell phones and to most audio devices. Toconnect a music player to Zulu.2’s auxiliary inputjack, use the cord provided.

Using Your Zulu.2 HeadsetTo adjust the volume on a device connected toZulu.2’s auxiliary input jack, use the controls on thedevice itself. Disconnecting a call: Press the button todisconnect the call; music automatically resumes.Setting DIP SwitchesConnecting to iPhone or iPad with theAuxiliary Input CordIf you connect to an iPhone or iPad using the wiredauxiliary input cord, you can use the silver buttonon the cord to perform the following functions: Play/Pause: Press the button once to Pausemusic; press the button again to Play music. Track Forward: Press the button twice rapidly totrack forward. Answering calls: Music automatically mutes andpauses for an incoming call. Press the button toanswer the call.DIP switches arefactory set to matchmost aircraft audiopanels. To change aDIP switch settingopen the controllerbattery/DIP switchdoor. Peak Performance Tips Start with an excellent fit—see “Fitting yourheadset,” on page 4. Set Zulu.2’s Stereo/Mono DIP switch to match thesignal from your audio panel (see “Matching Stereo/Mono Setting to an Audio Panel” on page 8). Keep cell phones at least 12 inches from theZulu.2 controller and headset when making callsto reduce static noise during phone calls. To conserve battery life, turn off Bluetooth modewhen not in use. You can use auxiliary devices such as a musicplayer by connecting to Zulu.2’s auxiliaryinput jack and a cell phone by connecting viaBluetooth, or through the standard 2.5mm cellphone cable provided. To ensure peak ANR performance and comfort, replace the ear seals, head pads, and mic muffsevery 18 months. These are wear items that arenot covered by the Lightspeed warranty andare available for purchase on our website atLightspeedAviation.com/Accessories. We encourage you to register your headset at ourwebsite, LightspeedAviation.com. In the eventyour headset may require service, registrationhelps assure quick and efficient processing (see“Where is my product serial number” on page 17). When packing your headsetinto its case, close thesliders and place the micover the headband toavoid chafing the boom.15

FAQsWhy do I hear radio communications in onlyone ear?Why doesn’t my Bluetooth phone accept Zulu.2’s0000 passcode?Zulu.2’s Stereo/Mono DIP switch is probably setto Stereo while your audio panel is transmittinga mono signal. To fix this, change Zulu.2’s Stereo/Mono DIP switch to Mono. This setting does notaffect music or audio from auxiliary devices; you canhear stereo sound on auxiliary devices even whenthe Stereo/Mono DIP switch is set to Mono.Your headset may not be in pairing mode. Somephones prompt for a pass code without checking forpairing mode. When the phone cannot pair with theheadset, it rejects the passcode. To enter pairing mode, you must start with Bluetooth mode turned fully OFF(see “Connecting Bluetooth Cell Phones,” on page 12).How can I reduce static noise during cell phone calls? When pairing Zulu.2 with my Bluetooth phone, why does my phone indicate it cannot connect? The headset may not be in pairing mode. To enterpairing mode, you must start with Bluetooth modeturned fully OFF; (see “Connecting Bluetooth CellPhones,” on page 12).16To reduce RF interference during phone calls, keep cell phones at least 12 inches from the Zulu.2controller and headset when making calls.

FAQsWhen flying, what causes a warbling noise inthe ear cup?If your ear is not entirely inside the cup, with atight seal, air can seep in and cause the ANR tocompensate for uneven internal cup pressure.Where is my product serial number? The Zulu.2 serial number (asmall, white, bar-code stickerwith numbers) can be foundon the headset underneath thehead pad. The head pad, locatedon the inner radius of theheadband, must be removed toreveal the serial number. Simplypinch the cushioned part of the head pad, pulldown and it will snap out.17
