3Citizenship in the Nationfield trip to one of themany historic sites withinminutes of campNuclear Sciencefield trip to the SurryNuclear Power StationMerit Badge ProgramPipsico offers approximately 60-merit badges duringsummer camp. These are all listed in the merit badgebooklet, along with the merit badge schedule. Some Scoutswill be encouraged by their units to take as many meritbadges as possible. While this is a unit decision, experienceshows that trying to learn six new skills at the same time isdifficult, especially when some merit badges requireseveral additional hours of work or practice. Accordingly, aScout who works on six merit badges will learn how to getby with the least amount of work, rather than actuallylearning skills. We recommend that, before camp,Scoutmasters hold a conference with each Scout to assistthem in setting realistic goals. Scouts should beencouraged to allow time for the proper completion ofmerit badges. The underlying purpose of these programsis to expose Scouts to new activities/studies that maypositively impact character values, connect the practicalapplication of material learned in school, to develop careeror hobby interests and to learn new ways of having fun.We have developed our merit badge schedule based on thedemand of past years. We do, however, reserve the rightto adjust the schedule to meet demand and therefore allunits must register for merit badges through Tentaroobefore camp. Sessions have maximum numbers to ensurequality learning. Once a Scout is signed up for a meritbadge, we assume that they have the Scoutmastersapproval to work on that badge. We will approverequirements completed at camp under the guidance ofour merit badge counselors. Blue Cards must be presentedto our staff to complete merit badges. We do offer somemerit badges that have field trips. In most cases, volunteersand their vehicles are needed to transport Scouts to andfrom locations.Merit Badge registration will be done ONLINE, and will beon a first-come, first-serve basis. Online MB registrationwill be open starting at 10 AM on March 7th, 2020. OnceMB classes are full, they will automatically close. Allregistrations for MB sessions will be through Tentaroo(http://Tiedwater.Tenaroo.com/).You must have paid a deposit of 125 per scout to register. NOTE:When registering for MBs online, your registrations are only lockeddown once you submit your cart.Submit your cart often!!PREREQUISITESThere are some merit badges with requirements, such as completion of the BSA Swim Test, a rank, or another meritbadge. Where this is the case , the requirements must be completed before a Scout starts working on the merit badge. There will not be any exceptions to this rule. Some merit badges have requirements that we cannot accomplish at camp while maintaining the integrity of the intentof the merit badge, such as visits or tracking charts. These are listed in a chart provided in the Merit Badge Booklet andshould be completed prior to arrival at camp. A chart, note, picture, or brochure can be brought as proof of completion.
