Creating a New TemplateClicking the ‘New Template’ button will create a blank template to edit. When a newtemplate is created, an image is captured of the graphics area and is set as the tile image. Thiscan be later changed within the SOLIDWORKS Sell Dashboard and Project Editor.Changing the Name of a TemplateTo change the name of a template in the Publisher, left click thetemplate tile, and click. The name has a max of 25 characters and canonly include letters and numbers. Names cannot be changed from thepublisher once the template has been published.Deleting a New TemplateAfter a new template is created, right clicking the template tile and clickingwill deleteit. A template that has already been published will not be able to be deleted from the publisher.Canceling out of the SOLIDWORKS Sell Publisher with thein the Property Manager oron the upper right of the screen will delete any unsaved work done on a template. This includesnew groups made and new templates that have not been published.Options SectionThe choices within the Options section provide different ways to put a template together.Options settings are remembered after the SOLIDWORKS Sell Publisher is closed, so it isimportant to make sure the correct choices are selected.9 Dassault Systèmes Confidential Information ref.: 3DS Document 20191. Template Tile: The thumbnail and name that are assigned to the template2. Template Library: Hosts all of the templates created and published to the usersSOLIDWORKS Sell Dashboard3. New Template Button: Creates a new blank template to work with4. Filter by Tags: Filters the Template Library by tags. These can be assigned in the onlineProject Editor5. Sort: View the templates in a certain order. Options include to sort by: Name A-Z, NameZ-A, Date: Newer, Date: Older.6. Search: Search for a template directly by typing its name7. Change Template Tile Size: Allows user to change the size of the tiles from large, medium, and small, as well as the ability to hide template names

Hide Geometry After PublishThis setting is useful for large or complicated assemblies. With this option selected, thegeometries that were just published become hidden in the SOLIDWORKS graphics area. This isa good way to make sure that all desired components have been published to the templatewithout closing the SOLIDWORKS window. Hidden objects will reappear after theSOLIDWORKS file has been reopened.Create Assembly in SellSelecting this option will remove the need to manually put together assemblies inSOLIDWORKS Sell Project Editor. This will only connect the geometries into a basic assemblybased the component World Coordinate System (WCS) locations. Other settings like links willneed to be edited later. Every group added to the template after the initial publication will needto be added in manually.Merge into Single PartThis option will merge all of the selected geometries into a single part. This is extremelyuseful when there are several components that will share the same group settings such asmaterials. Rather than having all the geometries in separate groups, this option will combinethem into one, making the template easier to manage and edit. Once a set of geometries hasbeen merged, they cannot be taken apart or added on to. If more geometry needs to be addedor taken off, all parts need to be republished.Group by MaterialWith this option, it is important that all components in the model are assignedappropriate materials in SOLIDWORKS. The software will take this data and sort the geometriesinto groups based off the material on each piece of geometry. Then you simply select all thedesired components or box select the entire assembly, and click the green check to publish. The ‘New Group’ button will be deactivated because groups will be created automatically perthe materials. All the groups created will be named after their respective materials, which can beseen in the progress dialog while the template is being published as shown below.10 Dassault Systèmes Confidential Information ref.: 3DS Document 2019Use Cases

Other OptionsGroups SectionThe groups section is the hub of the SOLIDWORKS Sell Publisher. This is wheregeometries are selected to be put into groups. The images generated within items 1 and 2 areonly present after the template has been published. Before then, the images will be blank.2513411 Dassault Systèmes Confidential Information ref.: 3DS Document 2019Selecting the ‘Create individual parts’ will separate all the geometries selected intoindividual parts within the group assigned to them. This may be useful to collect all of thecomponents into the SOLIDWORKS Sell Project Editor for further editing. By selecting thisoption, the ‘Publish Configurations’ button will become available. This allows users to publishalternate geometries found in different SOLIDWORKS configurations of the assembly. It canonly work with the direct child in the assembly and will not work for subassemblies. The ‘Publishconfigurations’ option will not be available if ‘Merge into single part’ is already selected.

1. Groups in Template Box: Holds all of the groups created in the template2. Parts in Group Box: Holds all the parts assigned to the selected group3. Export to Group Box: All the publishable geometries available in the model. Serves asone way to select bodies to be put in a group4. New Group Button: Creates a blank group5. Change Part Tile Size: Allows user to change the size of the tiles from large, medium, and small, as well as the ability to hide part namesWithin this group, there are two alternative variations for the metal tray (dictated by thenumber 2 under the group name). Themark indicates the default part in that group. Havingtwo different parts in a group provides the end user with two alternatives they can configure theirproduct online. When one part in the group is selected, all other parts are hidden in the graphicsarea of SOLIDWORKS Sell. Including several parts within a group should be used foralternative geometries that will share the same material properties and other group settingssuch as a group name and a texture direction. For example, if certain components will need thesame wood material, but the wood grain is in a different direction, then different groups need tobe used. This use case can be seen in the Speaker Demo.Parts are the alternative geometries within groups. They can be made up of faces, surfaces, and solid bodies. With the help of the ‘Merge into Single Part’ option, manycomponents of a model can be merged into a single piece of geometry. Often, this is used whenthere are several geometries that are going to need the same material. Using this option willmake the configurator simpler and the end user experiences easier, because fewer groups willbe configurable. However, once these merged parts are published, the only way to add or takeaway a merged component is to republish the geometries.Renaming and Deleting a GroupTo either rename a group or delete the entire group, left click on thegroup tile. Clicking onwill activate the name text box. Similar to theTemplate Name, it has a limit to 25 characters (only numbers and letters). No group can have the same name, even if they have differentcapitalization. Clickingnext to the pencil will delete the group alltogether. Once a group has been published, users are not able to edit ordelete groups from the publisher. This can instead be done in the Project12 Dassault Systèmes Confidential Information ref.: 3DS Document 2019Groups vs. PartsGroups are used to hold parts that may have different geometry variations, acting as abasis for different configurations of the model. This can be seen though the ‘Metal Tray’ group.

Editor.Adding VariationsSOLIDWORKS model adjustments must be done before or after the Publisher commandbecause the command disables edits. Once the desired changes have been made to the model, click ‘Publish’ from the Command Manager to incrementally add the new variations to theirrespective groups, or make new groups if necessary. Adding incremental variations can beextremely useful when showing alternatives of the model. An example of this is seen in theDesk demo. The resolution section provides choices for fine-tuning the resolution of geometries in atemplate. When models are published, they are converted to meshes which are made frommass amounts of triangles. The resolution settings will change the size of these triangles, making the “edges” of a surface seem smoother. The default is set to ‘Coarse’, which is adecent quality for most geometry. If smoother surfaces are required, the other default settings‘Fine” is available, which marginally increases the resolution of the geometries. If the resolutionis not satisfactory, then there is third option to have a custom resolution. This can be changedby moving the slider up and down. However, the higher the resolution, the larger the geometryfile sizes will be, hence the slower the template and configurator will be to move around andload. Having high resolution may not be necessary for larger assemblies because the differencewould be small relative to the size of the model.Optimize Edge length is another way to increase the quality of the parts. However it mayincrease the processing time if the model is large or complicated.Minimal body size can be used to easily exclude small components in an assembly likefasteners. For example, when the template is published with a minimal body size of 20%, onlyparts that are larger than 20% of the size of the assembly are published. Everything smallerthan this percentage will remain unpublished and won’t be included in the template. With aminimum value of 0%, all selected geometries will be published. This can be used in conjunctionwith the ‘Group by Material’ option to quickly publish geometries.13 Dassault Systèmes Confidential Information ref.: 3DS Document 2019Resolution Section

The estimate size button can help the user examine the file size of the parts before thetemplate is published. To see the file size for a group, it must be selected and not yet published.Once the button is clicked, a pop up progress dialog similar to the following image will show.SOLIDWORKS Sell will stay logged in even after the SOLIDWORKS session has beenterminated. To log out of the Publisher, click the logout button under the Connection to Serversection. In order to use the Publisher again, the user must log back in to a target URL addressusing their credentials to gain access.Step by Step: Publishing Geometry to SOLIDWORKS Sell 14Create a new blank templateAs a default, make sure ‘Create Assembly in Sell’ and ‘Merge into single part’ are bothselected in the Option sectionWith a blank group selected, choose the components you wish to add to the groupo You can select components from the graphics area by clicking on them, boxselecting components in an area, or checking items through the ‘Export to Group’box in the Groups sectionCreate a new group by clicking the ‘New Group’ button and select the desired geometryRepeat this process until all desired geometries have been sorted into groupsOptional: Rename the GroupOptional: Choose the resolution for the templateClick the in the top of the property manager to publish the template, or simply rightmouse click in the graphics area and click the mark Dassault Systèmes Confidential Information ref.: 3DS Document 2019Connection to Server
