Floating Ball ValvesDesign FeatureWith more and more concern for environment protection in the whole world, low emission valve will be widelyused. Low emission valve can prevent poisonous, flammable, explosive medium from leaking to pollute theair; and also important that low emissions valve can minimum fugitive emission of VOC to help solve theproblem of “Global Warming”.Low Emission ControlLive LoadedGland FlangeLow EmissionPackingLow Emission PackingBecause of frequent opening and closing of the valve, normal graphite granule can be drawn by the stem,which will cause leakage. VIZA designed low emissions valve use special low emissions packing to ensurethe seal of stem. The cone packing is made of expanding graphite in die-formed rings and has features ofheat resistance, less stress relaxation and low creep. With this special structure, it allows for a low-frictionon rotary & rising stem valve, therefore providing the stabilized sealing performance for long cycle life. Forlow temperature service, the standard V shape PTFE packing rings are used for low emissions control.Controlled Stem and Stuffing Box FinishIt’s also a key point to control the stem and stuffing box finish when machining. The stem is made by coldrolling and stem surface finish is controlled by Ra0.4, which can reduce friction for stem moving and ensurethe graphite to fill and migrate into the stems micro scratches, and function as a lubricant to reduce stemleakage. The stuffing box surface is controlled within Ra1.6 and Ra3.2 for better holding of the packing ringand results in a better sealing performance.Live Loaded Gland FlangeIn normal case, valve packing is tighten by gland and gland bolting. During the service, the gland loadretention will be reduced by long time pressure from medium, which will cause possible leakage withloosened packing. VIZA designed low emissions valve use a set of Belleville springs installed on each glandstud to provide a continuous compressive force on gland, which guarantees permanent load retention for thestem packing to avoid fugitive emissions.6

Design FeaturesTrunnion Mounted Ball ValvesGeneral DesignThe ball is fixed by Trunnion Shaft (size 4”andsmaller) or Retaining Plate (size 6” and above),and the seat rings are floating, free to moveagainst the ball along the valve centerline. Thetrunnion shaft / retaining plate together withbearings adsorb the side load created by thepressure acting on the ball. At low pressure, theseat tight sealing is ensured by the preload of thesprings acting on the seat rings. Along with thepressure increasing, the process mediumpressure pushes the seat rings against the ball to4" & Smallerprovide additional load for tight sealing.The ball and stem are independent with each otherto minimize the effect of the side thrust generatedby the pressure acting on the ball.6" & LargerBall Seat AlignmentMechanical stops are equipped on all valves toensure the ball is never to be over rotated.AED O-RingWhen valves are used under high pressure gas applications, e.g. hydrocarbon gas service under class 600lband above, the gas may be absorbed into the molecular structure of elastomeric O-rings. If the valve issubjected to sudden decompression, the O-rings may be destroyed by the rapidly expanded gas. To avoidthis possibility, special AED O-rings or Lip seals, suitable for such service conditions, are available onrequest.Environment Friendly ValveAccurate machining of stem, gland and bonnet sealing surfaces with double sealing (O-ring primary seal plusgraphite gasket seal) ensure the low emission which is complying with the most severe pollution-controlregulations. Design FeaturesTrunnion Mounted Ball ValvesSeat DesignStandard seat design is primary soft seal, and secondary metal to metal seal. Seat insert is designed aspressed-in type which is easy for maintenance.(Fig. 1) Optional design with primary metal to metal seal andsecondary soft seal seat design is also available upon request.(Fig. 2)BallSeat RingSeat RingBallO - RingSeat InsertSeat InsertMetal-to-MetalContactFig.1Fig.2a) Standard: Single Piston Effect Seats (Self Relieving Seats)Medium pressure, both upstream and downstream, creates a resultant thrust to the seat rings against the ballto assure tight sealing; Medium pressure acting in the body cavity creates a resultant thrust to push the seatrings away from the ball.The single piston design permits the automatic release of any over pressure in the body cavity when the valveis in the fully open or fully closed position. 4. Significantly better S-N fatigue resistance of the forged steel was observed, as compared with the two cast materials (see Figure 4).
