CyberLink PowerDirector Quick Start GuideWelcomePowerDirector InstallationWelcome to the CyberLink PowerDirector 10Quick Start Guide. This document containsall the information you need to get the latestversion of CyberLink PowerDirector up andrunning on your computer, and providessome common trouble-shooting tips if youever get stuck.To install CyberLink PowerDirector on yourcomputer, do this:1.Locate the CyberLink PowerDirectorexecutable file (full or upgradeversion) that you downloaded to yourcomputer. Or insert the program discin your disc drive and then see step 3.2.Double-click on the CyberLinkPowerDirector executable file to startthe setup program.If a previous version of CyberLinkPowerDirector is already installed, youare asked to uninstall. Click Yes touninstall. After the uninstall iscomplete, proceed to the next step.3.InstallationIf CyberLink PowerDirector did not comepre-installed on your computer, or you needto reinstall the program, follow these simplesteps to install the program on your PC.4.Before InstallingBefore you install CyberLink PowerDirector,here are a couple recommendations toensure the installation goes smoothly. Close all other applications, including anti-virus software.If you previously installed a trialversion of CyberLink PowerDirector, itis recommended that you uninstall itbefore proceeding with theinstallation of the full version.Note: if need to re-install CyberLinkPowerDirector, but it came pre-installed onyour computer, please contact the computermanufacturer for more detailed installationinstructions.5.6.7.8.In the Welcome window, click Next to proceed to the End User LicenseAgreement (EULA) window.Review the EULA and then click Yes toaccept and proceed to the CustomerInformation window.Enter a User Name and CompanyName, and then the Serial Number(activation key) that you received withthe software. Click on Next toproceed.Setup displays the location whereCyberLink PowerDirector will beinstalled. To install to this folder, clickNext. To install to a different folder,click Browse, select another folder,and then click Next.Setup displays the location where itwill add the program icons forCyberLink PowerDirector. Type a newfolder name, select an existing folder1

Click the Finish button oncethe installation is complete.Content Pack InstallationBefore using CyberLink PowerDirector, besure to install the content packs that camewith your installation. The content packsinclude a number of title and styletemplates, particle objects, DVD menus, andmore.Note: you do not need to install the contentpacks if you are installing the program froma disc, only if you purchased anddownloaded it from our online store.To install the content packs, do this:1.2.3.4.Locate both of the content packexecutable files that you downloadedto your computer. In version 10 ofCyberLink PowerDirector there shouldbe two of them.Double-click on the first content packexecutable file to start the extractionprocess. The setup program installsthe templates and effects intoCyberLink PowerDirector.Once the installation is complete, clickthe Finish button.Repeat the last two steps again toinstall the second content pack.Using PowerDirectorOnce CyberLink PowerDirector is installed,double-click on the desktop shortcut tolaunch the program.VersionsThere are several versions of CyberLinkPowerDirector, including Ultra, Deluxe,HE3D, HE, DE, and more. Each of theseversions differs in functionality and fileformat compatibility.2If you find that some features areunavailable (for example video with mutedaudio or you get a pop up when you select afeature) it is possible that you do not have afull version of CyberLink PowerDirectorinstalled.For more information, do this:1.Determine the version of yourinstalled program by clicking on thePowerDirector logo in the top rightcorner.2.Select the ? icon in the top rightcorner, and then selectPowerDirector Help. Navigate to theversion table (Introduction Welcome PowerDirector Versions)to view a list of all of the features thatare available in your version ofCyberLink PowerDirector.Getting StartedThe type of video you are creatingdetermines how you navigate the programand what features you utilize. For each user,the method is slightly different, but theoverall process is the same: Capture/Import- Edit - Produce/Create Disc.The following are some important thingsyou should know to get the best results ineach stage.Editing ModesCyberLink PowerDirector now has threeseparate editing modes. When you launchthe program you are prompted to chooseone of the following editing modes:Full Feature Editor: select this option toenter the classic editing mode of CyberLinkPowerDirector, where all of the program'sfeatures are available to you.Easy Editor: if you are new to the editingprocess and not sure how or where to getstarted, then the Easy Editor can help. TheMagic Movie Wizard takes you through astep-by-step process to import, style, adjust,

Follow the stepsin the Slideshow Creator to import yourphotos, add background music, and stylishslideshow templates.Importing: you can import any existingmedia that is on your computer’s hard driveand use it in your production. This is done inthe Edit module of CyberLink PowerDirectorby clicking on thebutton.Note: once CyberLink PowerDirector createsyour movie or slideshow, the content isplaced on the timeline, where you canmanually edit the created production,output it to a file, or burn it to a disc.EditingCapturing and ImportingThe first step in creating your production isto capture and import your project’s media.You can capture media from a variety ofsources, including a DV/HDV camcorder,webcam, digital TV signal, or a microphone.Setting up capture profiles: before youbegin capturing, make sure to set thecapture profile, i.e. set the media file typecreated and the quality of the captured file.To do this:1.In Capture mode, click the Profilebutton after you have selected yourcapture device.2.In the profile window, select the fileformat and set the quality of therecorded file.If you want to customize the media fileprofile, select the New button andthen customize the resolution, bitrate,compression, etc., as required.3.IEEE 1394 vs. USB import: if your DV/HDVcamcorder connects to your computer via aIEEE 1394 cable, select the Capture buttonand then theoroption asrequired. Follow the instructions on the UI tocapture your video.If your camcorder connects via a USB cable,first manually transfer the video files to yourThe Edit mode is where you create yourvideo production by adding media to theworkspace timeline.3D Media: CyberLink PowerDirectorsupports various 3D video and imageformats. You can use 3D media to createboth 3D videos, and standard 2D videoproductions. All 3D media and effects in thelibrary are indicated by a 3D icon in the topleft of its thumbnail.Note: in order for 3D media files to displayproperly in your video production, you mayfirst need to set their 3D source format. Todo this, right-click on each imported mediafile in the library and then select Set 3DSource Format.Track Manager: if required, you can addadditional video and audio tracks. You canadd up to 100 video and audio tracks to thetimeline.To add tracks, click onManager.to open the TrackPreview Resolution: if the resolution of yourproduction appears low or degraded in thepreview window, selectand then ahigher preview resolution from the list.The higher the resolution you select, themore resources that are required to previewyour video production.Produce & Create DiscThe Produce and Create Disc modes arepart of the post production process.Producing creates a video file on your harddrive that you can watch, share, or upload.3

CyberLink PowerDirector Quick Start GuideCreate Disc lets you burn your production toa disc in a variety of formats.Intelligent SVRTIntelligent SVRT assists in the output of yourprojects by suggesting which video profileyou should use.Based on the format of original video clips inyour project, what portions of the clips weremodified, and which portions of them werenot changed, Intelligent SVRT suggests thevideo profile that will result in the bestoutput quality possible, and save you themost time during production.To utilize Intelligent SVRT, do one of thefollowing:ResourcesThe following are some helpful resourcesyou can use if you get stuck or are lookingfor editing ideas.
