Sec 2PFDSec 1SystemForewordWARNING: Navigation and terrain separation must NOT be predicatedupon the use of the terrain function. The G500 Terrain Proximity featureis NOT intended to be used as a primary reference for terrain avoidanceand does not relieve the pilot from the responsibility of being aware ofsurroundings during flight. The Terrain Proximity feature is only to be usedas an aid for terrain avoidance and is not certified for use in applicationsrequiring a certified terrain awareness system. Terrain data is obtainedfrom third party sources. Garmin is not able to independently verify theaccuracy of the terrain data.Sec 3MFDWARNING: The displayed minimum safe altitudes (MSAs) are only advisoryin nature and should not be relied upon as the sole source of obstacle andterrain avoidance information. Always refer to current aeronautical chartsfor appropriate minimum clearance altitudes.Sec 6Annun.& AlertsSec 5AdditionalFeaturesSec 4HazardAvoidanceWARNING: The Garmin G500 has a very high degree of functional integrity. However, the pilot must recognize that providing monitoring and/or selftest capability for all conceivable system failures is not practical. Althoughunlikely, it may be possible for erroneous operation to occur without a faultindication shown by the G500. It is thus the responsibility of the pilot todetect such an occurrence by means of cross-checking with all redundantor correlated information available in the cockpit.Sec 7SymbolsWARNING: The altitude calculated by GPS receivers is geometric heightabove Mean Sea Level and could vary significantly from the altitudedisplayed by pressure altimeters, such as the output from the GDC 74A AirData Computer, or other altimeters in aircraft. GPS altitude should neverbe used for vertical navigation. Always use pressure altitude displayed bythe G500 PFD or other pressure altimeters in aircraft.Appendix ASec 8GlossaryWARNING: Do not use outdated database information. Databases usedin the G500 system must be updated regularly in order to ensure that theinformation remains current. Pilots using an outdated database do soentirely at their own risk.Appendix BIndexWARNING: Do not use basemap (land and water data) information forprimary navigation. Basemap data is intended only to supplement otherapproved navigation data sources and should be considered as an aid toenhance situational awareness.iiGarmin G500 Pilot’s Guide190-01102-02 Rev. E

Sec 5AdditionalFeaturesSec 6Annun.& AlertsSec 7SymbolsSec 8GlossaryWARNING: Exceeding 200 deg/second in pitch or roll may invalidateAHRS attitude provided to the G500. Exceeding 450 KIAS may invalidateADC information provided to the G500.Sec 4HazardAvoidanceWARNING: To reduce the risk of unsafe operation, carefully review andunderstand all aspects of the G500 Pilot’s Guide. Thoroughly practicebasic operation prior to actual use. During flight operations, carefullycompare indications from the G500 to all available navigation sources, including the information from other NAVAIDs, visual sightings, charts, etc.For safety purposes, always resolve any discrepancies before continuingnavigation.Sec 3MFDWARNING: For safety reasons, G500 operational procedures must belearned on the ground.Sec 2PFDWARNING: Do not use the indicated data link weather product age todetermine the age of the weather information shown by the data linkweather product. Due to time delays inherent in gathering and processingweather data for data link transmission, the weather information shown bythe data link weather product may be significantly older than the indicatedweather product age.Sec 1SystemWARNING: Do not use data link weather information for maneuvering in,near, or around areas of hazardous weather. Information contained withindata link weather products may not accurately depict current weatherconditions.ForewardWARNING: Traffic information shown on the G500 Multi Function Displayis provided as an aid in visually acquiring traffic. Pilots must maneuverthe aircraft based only upon ATC guidance or positive visual acquisitionof conflicting traffic.Appendix AAppendix BIndex190-01102-02 Rev. EGarmin G500 Pilot’s Guideiii

Sec 2PFDSec 1SystemForewordWARNING: Because of anomalies in the earth’s magnetic field, operatingthe G500 within the following areas could result in loss of reliable attitudeand heading indications. North of 70 North latitude and south of 70 Southlatitude. An area north of 65 North latitude and between longitude 75 West and 120 West. An area north of 70 North latitude and betweenlongitude 70 West and 128 West. An area north of 70 North latitude andbetween longitude 85 East and 114 West. An area south of 55 Southlatitude between longitude 120 East and 165 East.Sec 3MFDWARNING: Do not use Terrain-SVT information for primary terrainavoidance. Terrain-SVT is intended only to enhance situationalawareness.Sec 5AdditionalFeaturesSec 4HazardAvoidanceCAUTION: The United States government operates the Global PositioningSystem and is solely responsible for its accuracy and maintenance. TheGPS system is subject to changes which could affect the accuracy andperformance of all GPS equipment. Portions of the Garmin G500 utilizeGPS as a precision electronic NAVigation AID (NAVAID). Therefore, aswith all NAVAIDs, information presented by the G500 can be misused ormisinterpreted and, therefore, become unsafe.Sec 6Annun.& AlertsCAUTION: The Garmin G500 does not contain any user-serviceable parts.Repairs should only be made by an authorized Garmin service center.Unauthorized repairs or modifications could void both the warranty andthe pilot’s authority to operate this device under FAA/FCC regulations.Sec 8GlossarySec 7SymbolsCAUTION: The G500 PFD and MFD displays use a lens coated with aspecial anti-reflective coating that is very sensitive to skin oils, waxes, andabrasive cleaners. CLEANERS CONTAINING AMMONIA WILL HARM THEANTI-REFLECTIVE COATING. It is very important to clean the lens using aclean, lint-free cloth and an eyeglass lens cleaner that is specified as safefor anti-reflective coatings.Appendix ACAUTION: When interfaced with a GSR56 Iridium transceiver only oneSD card may be present in the GDU620 and it must be in the lower slot.Appendix BIndexNOTE: Do not rely solely upon data link services to provide Temporary FlightRestriction (TFR) information. Always confirm TFR information throughofficial sources such as Flight Service Stations or Air Traffic Control.ivGarmin G500 Pilot’s Guide190-01102-02 Rev. E

Sec 6Annun.& AlertsSec 7SymbolsSec 8GlossaryAppendix ANOTE: Do not use SafeTaxi or Chartview functions as the basis forground maneuvering. SafeTaxi and Chartview functions have not beenqualified to be used as an airport moving map display (AMMD). SafeTaxiand Chartview are intended to improve pilot situational awarenessduring ground operations should only be used by the flight crew toorient themselves on the airport surface.Sec 5AdditionalFeaturesNOTE: Terrain-SVT is standard when the Garmin Synthetic VisionTechnology (SVT) option is installed.Sec 4HazardAvoidanceNOTE: This product, its packaging, and its components contain chemicalsknown to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, orreproductive harm. This notice is being provided in accordance withCalifornia’s Proposition 65. If you have any questions or would likeadditional information, please refer to our web site at www.garmin.com/prop65.Sec 3MFDNOTE: Terrain data is not displayed when the aircraft latitude is greaterthan 75 North or 60 South.Sec 2PFDNOTE: This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation issubject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not causeharmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interferencereceived, including interference that may cause undesired operation.Sec 1SystemNOTE: All visual depictions contained within this document, includingscreen images of the G500 bezel and displays, are subject to change andmay not reflect the most current GDU 620 system. Depictions of equipmentmay differ slightly from the actual equipment.ForewardNOTE: Interference from GPS repeaters operating inside nearby hangarscan cause an intermittent loss of attitude and heading displays while theaircraft is on the ground. Moving the aircraft more than 100 feet awayfrom the source of the interference should alleviate the condition.Appendix BIndex190-01102-02 Rev. EGarmin G500 Pilot’s Guidev
