With the support of theCity of Oshawa, the Festival has achieved its key objectives that were established byfestival founder Kerri King, councilors from the City of Oshawa, members of theDowntown Oshawa Board of Management and a group of community volunteers over adecade ago. The festival has grown from a weekly lunchtime concert series in the City ofOshawa’s corner gardens (Summer in the City) to a highly respected community eventthat is a point of pride for Oshawa residents of all ages.The vision of the Oshawa Jazz and Blues Festival remains the same to this day:1.2.3.4.5.Revitalize Downtown Oshawa – celebrate OshawaEnhance community spirit and cultureBoost economic development in the City of OshawaCreate marketing opportunities for downtown merchantsPromote tourism within Durham RegionWith 7 days of programming, the 2007 Oshawa Jazz and Blues Festival was the biggestand best yet, with more attendees, community partners, artists, and media attention thanever before.With renewed focus on the downtown, the 2008 festival goals are as follows:1. Secure funding for higher calibre talent and a major headliner for the Big Event.2. Increase programming in the heart of downtown Oshawa to substantially improvefoot traffic.3. Increase the number of opportunities for local performers.4. Re-capture the essence of the original vision to bring live music to the streets.5. EVENT OVERVIEWNow entering its 7th year, the Oshawa Jazz and Blues Festival will feature majorinternational jazz and blues artists, outstanding venues, local artisans, children’sentertainment, and over 50 community partnerships. The Festival is a week-longcelebration of music, culture and community.
