He has been a Lion serving his community for 50years. Let’s take a look at what was going in in the worldwhen he joined Lions. The war in Vietnam was ramping up,we had still not landed on the moon yet, Puyallup only hadone High School and one Lions Club. Puyallup was stillpretty much a farming community with berries and cucumbers being the summer crops. There was no highway 512or Valley Freeway.Lion John has had an extensive service record. He is a PastZone Chair as well as a former Eye Bank Trustee. He haspicked up numerous corneas when Lions used to be theprimary method of transportation to and from the EyeBank. He spent countless hours and one truck hauling ourDunk Tank around to other locations so that other LionsClubs could use it for their festivals.Lion John always had a soft spot for children, chairing theChildspree project that the club used to do in concert withMervyns department store allowing for underprivilegedchildren to purchase back to school clothes, then he wouldroll right in to the Special Needs Breakfast with SantaClaus. At times he even played St. Nick.Right up until he suffered a stroke he was still collectingeyeglasses for recycling , remaining active as long as possible. He is a Progressive Melvin Jones recipient as well as alife member. He has received numerous District GovernorAwards as well. However his biggest legacy is that two ofhis children and two of his grandchildren are Lions, caringon his legacy (his daughter-in-law is also a member).

We need toform a group and take a look at our requirementsfor our recipients. There have been some greatsuggestions made and if we want to adapt any ofthem we need to do it now so that we can let theschools know that there will be changes for theupcoming years.
