3Prop the hood up slightlyonto a carboard packagingbox.Apply masking tape alongthe RHS of the hood,300mm long lengths of tapefrom behind the hood catchand 200mm high as shown.4Align the hood cut template(Item 36) with the rear andlower edges of the hood asshown.Tape the template to thehood with masking tape.Using a ball point pen, markthe 3 hole positions and thehood cut-out.Remove the template.5Using a plastic drop sheet,cover the entire engine bay,fender flares, bumper andscuttle panel.Tape the plastic drop sheetto vehicle in severalpositions.Note: Rubicon models,apply masking tape overboth hood vents to preventaluminum swarf from beingtrapped between the ventand hood.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 4 of 24

6With the hood propped upslightly on the cardboardpackaging box.Drill a pilot hole at the threemarked hole positions.Using a 5.0mm drill bit,enlarge the three pilot holesto 5.0mm diameter.7With the hood still proppedup, install the hood supportbezel (item 12) to the hood,loosely install three poprivets (item 13) as shown,with the hood support bezelcorrectly aligned on thehood, using a ball point pen,mark the remaining sixmounting hole positions.Remove the three pop rivetsand hood bezel.8Drill a pilot hole at the sixmarked hole positions.Using a 5.0mm drill bit,enlarge the six pilot holes to5.0mm diameter.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 5 of 24

9A custom body saw blade isrequired for cutting thehood.Using a 24 or 32 TPIhacksaw blade make thecustom body saw blade asper the body saw bladetemplate attached to theinstructions.10Using the body saw with thecustom body saw bladeinstalled, cut-out the sectionof the hood as marked instep 4, cutting on theoutside of the markedcutting line and throughboth the outer and innerhood panels.Remove the masking tape,deburr the cut edges of thehood and the nine mountingholes.Using compressed airthoroughly clean the hoodof all aluminum swarf /filings.Clean and prepare the nineholes and the hood cut-outfor painting, paint the nineholes and the hood cut-outwith a primer and thentouch-up paint.Remove and discard theplastic drop sheet.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 6 of 24

11With variations in theassembly of the hood fromthe factory, it may benecessary to install spacerwashers between the outerand inner panels of thehood (refer to photo), thethree M5 body washers(item 14) supplied in the kitare only to be installed ifthere is no seam sealerbetween the hood sheetmetal at any of the threeupper hood support bezelholes.12Apply a smear of adhesivesealant to the hood supportbezel (item 12), install thehood support bezel intoposition and install all ninepop rivets (item13).With all nine pop rivetsinstalled secure the hoodsupport bezel to the hoodusing a pop rivet gun.Clean-up any excesssealant to ensure a neatfinish.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 7 of 24

13Apply a bead of adhesivesealant along the insideedge of the hood and hoodsupport bezel to seal, applyadhesive sealant to the frontand rear hood cavities andthe front and rear hoodinfills (item’s 24 & 25).Install the front and rearhood infills flush with the cutedges of the hood.Clean-up any excesssealant to ensure a neatfinish.14Remove and discard the airinlet duct from the aircleaner base.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 8 of 24

25Place a strip of maskingtape on the front and rearlower sections of the aircleaner base.Install the air entry hose(item 15) onto the aircleaner base, loosely installseveral pop rivets (item 20)to hold the hose in placewhile you mark the twolower hole positions asshown.Remove the pop rivets andhose.26Drill a pilot hole at the twomarked hole positions.Using a 4.5mm drill bit, drillthe two pilot holes to 4.5mmdiameter as shown.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 14 of 24

27Using a body saw / diegrinder, neatly remove the1st set of internal ribs fromthe air cleaner base.Ensure the ribs are neatlyremoved and are cut-offflush with the air cleanerbase as shown.Using compressed air,thoroughly clean out theinside of the air box fromany plastic debris.28Apply a liberal amount ofadhesive sealant to the aircleaner base flange and airentry hose flange and installthe air entry hose onto theair cleaner base.Install the upper hosesupport plate (item 16) andpop rivets (item 20), installthe lower support plate(item 17), pop rivets (item20) and M4 body washers(item 22) onto the threelower pop rivets as shown.Install the side lower hosesupport plates (item 18) tothe front and rear, install apop rivet (item 20) throughthe top holes, install a M4 x20mm button head bolt(item 21) through the lowerholes, install a M4 bodywasher (item 22) and M4nyloc nut (item 23) asshown.Note: The orientation ofall pop rivets, hosesupport plates, washers,bolts and nuts.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 15 of 24

29With the hose supportplates, pop rivets andfasteners installed.Using a pop rivet gun,secure all the pop rivets,tighten the two M4 nylocnuts, securing the air entryhose to the air cleanerbase.Install the side upper hosesupport plates (item 18) andpop rivets (item 20) to thefront and rear of the aircleaner base as shown.Using a pop rivet gunsecure the four pop rivets.Clean-up any excesssealant to ensure a neatfinish.30INSTALLER OPTION :The air cleaner basecontains four drain holes asshown. 31Apply lubricant to the two aircleaner base mounting pinsand install the air cleanerbase into position.32Install the snorkel bodymounting brackets (item’s 4& 5) to snorkel body withM8 x 12mm Torx bolts (item6), centralise the slots in thebrackets to the 8mm brassmounting inserts.Tighten the bolts, to retainthe brackets in the correctposition.Install the upper mountingbracket (item 3) to the 6mmbrass mounting inserts withM6 x 12mm Torx bolts (item7).Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 17 of 24

33Apply a strip of maskingtape along the windshieldframe, using the Verniercalipers measure and marka couple of lines 8mm infrom the rear edge of thewindshield frame, using asteel ruler extend themarked lines approximately150mm long as shown.34Carefully install the snorkelbody (Item 1) to the fender,guiding the snorkel bodyoutlet into the air entry hose(item 15), centralise the slotsin the mounting brackets tothe fender mounting holesand install the standardfender bolts.Carefully lower the hoodchecking the clearancebetween the hood bezel andthe snorkel body outlet, ifrequired loosen the fenderbolts or snorkel bodymounting bolts and adjustthe snorkel to gain an evengap front to rear between thehood bezel and snorkel bodyoutlet.When correctly aligned,fasten the fender bolts orsnorkel body mountingbracket bolts.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 18 of 24

35Align the centre of the threeupper mounting bracket(item 3) mounting holes tothe 8mm marked line on thewindshield frame (marked instep 33), if required, loosenthe mounting bracket boltsand adjust the bracket toalign the mounting holeswith the 8mm marked line.With the bracket correctlyaligned, mark the bracketposition onto the maskingtape.Remove the snorkel bodyfrom the fender.Remove the uppermounting bracket from thesnorkel body.Remove the masking tapefrom the fender.36Position the upper mountingbracket onto the windshieldframe and align the bracketwith the marked bracketoutline.Mark the three mountinghole positions with a ballpoint pen.37Using the Jeep tool kit, fold the windshield down as per the Jeep instruction booklet.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 19 of 24

38Apply masking tape to theentire perimeter of thewindshield glass andwindshield frame to preventswarf from being trappedbetween the windshieldglass and windshield frame.Cover the dashboard toprevent swarf from enteringthe vents and dashboard.39Lift up and tape the draintube located in thewindshield frame.40Drill a pilot hole for each ofthe three marked holepositions. Drill each pilothole to 5.5mm diameter witha 5.5mm drill bit.Deburr and clean the threeholes for painting, paint thethree holes with a primerand then touch-up paint.Using compressed air or avacuum cleaner thoroughlyclean-up all aluminiumswarf / filings from thewindshield.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 20 of 24

41Install the three M5 x 20mmTorx bolts (item 8) throughthe upper mounting bracket(item 3), install the bracketgasket (item 11) to thebracket and install thebracket to the windshieldframe.Secure the bracket to thewindshield frame with M5flat washers (item 9) andM5 nyloc nuts (item 10).Remove the masking tapefrom the windshield and untape the drain tube.42Re-install the windshield back into position and secure as per the Jeep instruction booklet.43Shape the 110/130mm hoseclamp (item 28) to the ovalshape of the air entry hose.Loosely install the clamponto the air entry hose (item15).Note: The orientation ofthe hose clamp on the airentry hose.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 21 of 24

44Carefully reinstall the snorkelbody (Item 1) to the fender,guiding the snorkel bodyoutlet into the air entry hose(item 15), align the mountingbrackets to the fendermounting holes and installthe standard fender bolts.Carefully lower the hoodchecking the clearancebetween the hood bezel andthe snorkel body outlet, ifrequired loosen the fenderbolts or snorkel bodymounting bolts and adjustthe snorkel to gain an evengap front to rear between thehood bezel and snorkel bodyoutlet.When correctly aligned,fasten the fender bolts orsnorkel body mountingbracket bolts.Secure the snorkel body tothe upper mounting bracket(item 3) with M6 x 12mmTorx bolts (item 7).Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 22 of 24

47Align the antenna mountingclip (item 26) to the two4.5mm holes drilled in thetop of the air ram assembly,install two 4mm x 13mmblack pop rivets (item 27),install a M4 body washer(item 22) to each of the poprivets as shown.Using a pop rivet gunsecure the antennamounting clip to the air ramassembly.48Loosely install the blackhose clamp (Item 29) overthe base of the air ramassembly (Item 2).Install the air ram assemblyonto the snorkel body, firstlyclipping the thinner top partof the antenna into theantenna mounting clip andthen lowering the air ramassembly down and ontothe snorkel body inlet.Align the air ram assemblyand tighten the black hoseclamp (Item 29).4950Install the Air Cleaner Element, Air Cleaner Lid, Hood Liner and any other items that may havebeen removed during the snorkel installation process.N.B: It is the installer's responsibility to ensure that all connections are watertight.Copyright Safari 4x4 Engineering Pty Ltd Melbourne Victoria Australia – www.safari4x4.com.auPage 24 of 24
