Passenger Presence System – 2010 Camaronent in the PPS system. The history codes still need to becleared through the MDI tool, and appropriate electrical testsand visual inspections must be conducted in order to ensurethat there is no intermittent problem. After installing any of the PPS components, the system needsto be rezeroed using the MDI tool. This will update the emptyseat reference values stored in the ECU and ensure propersystem performance. This is the proper procedure to rezero the PPS system (seeSI document 2092991). After the PPS recognizes the rezeroingcommand:1. Ensure that the passenger seat is empty before initiating arezeroing command. Also check that there are no activeDTCs in the PPS.2. With the MDI tool, initiate a rezeroing command.3. If the system classifies the current seat condition asEmpty, it will update the reference values.4. After 20 seconds, cycle the ignition off to on.5. Verify that the rezero is successful by sitting on the passenger seat and verifying that the passenger air bag telltalelight changes from OFF to ON. If the telltale does notchange, follow the SI instructions for DTCsA DTC B0081 11 will set to indicate that the rezeroingprocess has failed.IMPORTANT:1. If the system fails to rezero, verify the passenger seat isempty and no active DTCs exist. Then resend the zerocommand and follow the instruction above at leastthree times.2. During the rezeroing process, the seat must be empty ofall objects and the clearance specified in SI must beobserved. Here are some tips on the Passenger Presence System (PPS)on the 2010 Camaro.HOW THE SYSTEM WORKSThe main functionof the PPS is to determine whether toturn the right frontpassenger airbag ONor OFF, based on theoccupant’s size andweight. There are twocomponents thatmake up the PPS –the module andModule location beneath seatsensing mat. Themodule and sensingmat are part ofthe seat. The module ismounted under theseat pan and thesensing mat isassembled betweenthe seat foam cushion and seat pan.The sensing matconverts the frontpassenger occupant’ssize and weight intoan electrical signalthat the modulereads and determinesSensor mat locationthe passenger’sclassification. For additional information, a streamingvideo is available from the GM TrainingDTCwebsite (U.S. only).
