Project 1: Landscape Area AnalysisWe can use one of the Landmark tools (Landscape Area) to analyze the landscape areas andto provide a budget price. This has a couple of advantages: it is quick, and you can make sureyou are within the budget.SAMPL Open the file Project 1.sta fromthe exercise folder. This file is aVectorworks template file. It hassome drawn information alreadyon it, so all we have to do is addthe areas we want to the plan.EAt the very early stage of a project, the client may not want to pay you for a lot of work theycannot afford. Creating a quick concept with a budget figure will let you know in a few minutesif the client can afford your design. Go to the Site Planning tool set. Choose the Landscape Area tool. MPLEThis opens the dialog box where youcan add plants, choose the look ofthe area, and so on. Later on, we willlook at this dialog box in detail.SA Type in a Name for thelandscape area. MPL Move to the top-left cornerof the site. Click once to start thelandscape area.E Zoom in to make it easier to seethe plan. You can use the scrollwheel on the mouse, or you canuse the Zoom tool on the Basictool palette.SA Move the cursor down theleft-hand boundary, nearthe house. Click once. MPL Move the cursor back to thestart point. Click once.E Move the cursor up tothe boundary. Click once.SAThe landscape area has beencreated. The Object Info palette nowdisplays the information about theLandscape Area. Go to the Object Info palette.MPLE Change the Name of the areato Trees. This could be an areaof tree planting.SA Scroll down the Object Infopalette to the Unit Price field. Enter a budget price for theplanting, based on your areasettings. If you are using metric,enter your price per squaremeter. If you are using imperial,enter your price per square foot.This is a very rough way of working,but it will give us a very quick price.The location of the area tag(the name and area) will get in theway of the other landscape areaswe want to create, but we canrelocate the tag. 2015 Jonathan Pickup Vectorworks Landmark Tutorial Manual5

MPL Go to the Tool bar. Ensure that the second modeis active. This will allow us torelocate the Landscape area tag.E Go to the Basic tool palette. Choose the Selection tool.SA Move the cursor to the bluehandle at the top left of the tag. The cursor should changeto a double-headed arrow(the interactive rescale cursor). Click once. MPLE Go to the Site Planning tool set. Choose the Landscape Area tool.SA Move the cursor to the top-rightcorner of the first landscape area. Click once to start the nextlandscape area. MPL Keep drawing your area untilyou get back to the start point. Click once.E Move the cursor down theboundary, near the house. Click once.SAThe landscape area hasbeen created.The Object Info palette now displaysthe information about theLandscape area. SAMPL Use the same technique to drawan area for the lawn. Enter the name for the lawn onthe Object Info palette, and enterthe budget price.Don’t forget that you can use theAttributes palette to change the lookof the areas in order to make iteasier for the client to understand.E Scroll down theObject Info palette. Enter a budget price for theplanting, based on your areasettings. If you are using metric,enter your price per square meter.If you are using imperial, enteryour price per square foot. SAMPL Scroll down the left side tofind the field called Area. Click on Area. Click on the Add button.This will add the Area fieldto our report.E Scroll down the left side to findthe field called Name. Click on Name. Click on the Add button.This will add the Name field toour report. SAMPL Click on the OK button.Vectorworks will search the file,looking for all your landscape areas.For each area you will see the name,area, and unit price. The report willbe a worksheet (the Vectorworksversion of a spreadsheet).E Scroll down the left side to findthe field called Unit Price. Click on Unit Price. Click on cell D2. Type in an equals sign ( ). Click on cell B2.MPL Click on the green tick tocomplete this formula.E Type in a times sign (*).
