CRANEErection AndMaintenanceOfManual Revolving DoorsInstallation Procedures :Please read these directions before beginning installation. If you needfurther information or clarification, call the factory before proceeding.Installer must provide: shims, quick-set cement, glazing blocks, backerrod, glazing compound, and vinyl as needed.Keep a Safe Work AreaAlways cordon off a safe working area. Direct all traffic to an alternateentrance.PackingTypical crating of a Crane revolving door for shipment is shown on thenext page.

Floor1. Inspect the floor where thedoor is to be installed. Finishedfloor should be in place beforerevolving door installation.Check that the floor is level.The operation and structuralintegrity of Crane revolvingdoors depends on their beingmounted on a level floor. Donot proceed if the floor is notlevel or has surfaceinconsistencies.All Crane warrantiesare void if the door isinstalled on a floor thatis out of level, or ifproper clearances arenot maintained.2. Locate and mark thecenterlines of door on the floor.( Refer to the shop drawings )3. A full-size installationtemplate is included with eachdoor. Position the template onthe floor, aligned with thecenterlines.4. Drill pilot holes in the floor at the center and for all anchors. Drill allanchor holes: 1/2" diameter x 2 1/2" deep.

Ceiling Canopy5. Remove the canopy cover and setaside. Fill the speed control with oilsupplied.6. Raise the canopy into place. Use an aircylinder lift or other appropriate liftingequipment.Enclosure Assembly7. Each component is numbered so the itmay be assembled exactly as it wasduring fabrication. Match the numbersand fasten all the vertical posts to theceiling. 2 bolts or self-tapping screws areprovided for each post.8. Fasten the inside sections of the base tothe posts with the machine screwsprovided. Set the outer sections of thebase aside.9. Set the anchor bolts extending fromthe base into the holes in the floor. Level the enclosure with horseshoeshims. Check that the enclosure walls are plumb and square. Fill theanchor holes with quick-set cement. Allow the cement to cure.10. When installing on a finished floor, seal the base to floor withcaulk. If the finished floor is not in at the time of installation, thegeneral contractor must be notified in writing to seal the base-floorjoint.

Operating Hardware11. Return to the pilot hole at the center. Mark thefloor cutout: 5 5/16" diameter x 1 3/4" deep. Thefloor cutout is to be provided by the generalcontractor.12. Tape the two halves of the pivot bearingtogether. Position the bearing in the cutout. Hold itabove the finished floor with 1/8" thick shims.Center it within the enclosure and check the heightto the ceiling. Refer to the shop drawings13. Fill the gap between the cutout and the bearingwith quick-set cement. Allow all the cement to curethoroughly before proceeding. Remove the exposedtape from the bearing.14. Remove the 4 hangers from the top disk on thecenter shaft. Loosen the bolt at the end of eachhanger to release.Speed Control Accessfrom bottom of ceiling15A. At the top of the center shaft, under the serial number plate,remove the set screw and retract the shaft top.16A. Install the center shaft. Fit the shaft into the pivot bearingsocket. Line up and raise the shaft top into the square hole in the speedcontrol. Replace the set screw and cover plate.Alternate Speed Control Accessfrom top of ceiling15B. Remove the 8 mounting screws from the speed control and lift itout of the way.

16B. Install the center shaft by setting the base of the shaft into thefloor pivot. Align the shaft with the speed control and reseat the controland replace the 8 mounting screws.17. Grease andreplace allhangers in theirproperlynumbered spots.18. Set theautomaticbookfold tensionon each hangerfinger tight. 1/4Turn in eitherdirection fromthe initial settingwill make anoticeabledifference.19. Match each wing to it's numbered hangers. Slide it onto it'shangers and secure with screws.20. Check the operation of the bookfold mechanism on each wing. Totest, block one door wing and pull an adjacent wing with a scale at theouter edge until it bookfolds. Match the bookfold tension on theremaining wings to the first. Make any further adjustments asnecessary.21. Spray new weathersweep with silicone to ensure ease of operationwhile weathersweeps wear in.

22. Mortise locksmust be removed toinstall cylinders. (Lockcylinders were notprovided by CraneDoor Co. unlessotherwise noted in theshop drawings.) Installcylinder and tightenset screw. Attach locksto wings. Rotate thedoor to the preferredinterior or exteriorlocked position. Extendbolts to mark holes.Ceiling locks: Drill 2# undersize holes and finish to 3/4" diameter withmulti-flute countersink.Floor locks: Drill2# 1 1/8" diameter x 1 1/4" deep holes. Dustproofstrike plates are provided for floor locking. Secure strike in place withquick-set cement.Optional CeilingLights110 Volt electricalhookup and FC8T9Circline Lamp are notsupplied by Crane.Remove the protectivepaper cover from lightlenses before installing.

Wing GlassWings must be blocked tight and square. Install glazing blocks asshown in shop drawings.23. For each wing, set neopreneglazing gasket or glazing tape on theinside of the wing.24. Set the wing glass in place. OnFulview Wings, snug up glazingscrews. Check that each wing issquare and tight.25. Install the snap-in or screw-inglass stops. Finish glazing with gasket,tape, or compound.Enclosure GlassHandle curved glass with care. Do notexert force on these pieces. 26. Set theglazing blocks as shown on the shopdrawings. Mount glazing tape on theinside of the glazing pockets.27. Set each piece of enclosure glassinto the deeper side pocket and shiftinto position against setting blocks inthe opposite pocket. See shopdrawings.28. Snap-on or screw on the outersection of the enclosure base.29. Finish glazing with glazinggasket, or backer rod and glazingcompound around the edges of eachpiece of enclosure glass.

MaintenanceAll Crane doors will provide years of dependable service with minimummaintenance.Pivot BearingThe pivot bearing has a grease fitting. Bearing should be greasedsemiannually or as needed.Speed ControlSpeed controls are set at the factory at 12 R.P.M. Remove cover plate toadjust engaging pressure or replace brake shoes. To oil speed control,remove the oil fill screw. Use multigrade synthetic oil supplied with thedoor. Do not overfill, too much oil will restrict operation of door.WeathersweepsCAUTION: Reducing or trimming the size of the bottom sweep makesthe sweep more rigid and voids all warranties implied, written, orimagined. Replace weathersweeps as needed. Spray new weathersweepswith silicone to ensure ease of operation while weathersweeps wear in.Contact Crane Door Company for replacement weathersweeps.

CleaningAluminumDust and grime can be removed by regular cleaning. Use a mild, NonAbrasive soap or cleaning solution and water.Tar and built-up dirt can be removed with solvent cleaners such asturpentine, if followed by a soap and water cleaning and fresh waterrinse. Avoid acid or alkali cleaners. They may attack the anodizedfinish. After cleaning, surfaces should be wiped dry with a cleanabsorbent material.#4 Satin Stainless SteelFor routine cleaning, use soap, ammonia or detergent and water.Always working in the direction of the grain, rub with a sponge or rag.Rinse with clear water. Wipe dry. Stubborn dirt or grime can beremoved with a quality commercial stainless steel cleaner.Mirror Finish Stainless SteelMirror finishes require very special care. Abrasive cleaners and clothsshould never be used. Use only mild soap and water or glass cleaner.BronzeTo ensure proper maintenance, consult a professional bronze finisherand establish a regular metal cleaning program. Bronze finishes areprotected during shipping and installation by a shop coat of lacquer.Doors must be inspected and worked after installation by a qualifiedbronze finisher. Lacquer can be damaged by ammonia in windowcleaners, or acids from masonry cleaners. Protect doors from contactfrom these cleaners.Painted FinishesAny mild Non-Abrasive soap or mild solvent can be used for cleaning.Strong solvents may dissolve paint. Test any solvent first. Wax can beused to protect the finish.
