SURVEY RESPONSESWhat we learnedQuestion 6: Please share anyother thoughts you have on how tomake this recreation building asuccessful community asset.I think a gym and versatileclassroom space is key. I lovedhaving the preschool there whenwe needed it. It built a strong senseof community and my son is still inschool with some of his friends hemet at "My Friends" at NE Park.We feel that since the building will bea visible asset to our neighborhood asyou enter NE, it should be awelcoming, visually appealing andarchitecturally significant design, with an emphasis on tying theinterior to the park through an ampleuse of glass.Let's get a swimming pool, there's no where really nearhere with a swimming poolavailable to swim laps in.perkinswill.com16

SURVEY RESPONSESWhat we learnedQuestion 6: Please share anyother thoughts you have on how tomake this recreation building asuccessful community asset.Emphasize "community center" and notjust "sports" and "kids." Population aroundhere is aging, and too many see no reasonto stay. This could finally be that"community" amenity that the other arearec centers cannot or will not provide. Please consider that there is nowhere toplay soccer during the winter in the MPLSpark system. This is a huge hole / flaw inthe system. You fail to even list it as anoption in the activities section of thesurvey while it is MUCH more popular, accessible, and universal activity than anyof the other choices. Please figure this outand address the absence of soccer facilitiesin winter in MPLS.Regular staffing.Public restroom availableduring hours when thebuilding is not staffed.perkinswill.com17

SURVEY RESPONSESWould love to see an indoor track forthe local running community to use! What we learnedQuestion 6: Please share anyother thoughts you have on how tomake this recreation building asuccessful community asset. Please add an indoor track. The community really needs a place to runindoors in the winter months - a trackwould be my number one priority. Please include an indoor track at thenew park! There is not an indoor track in theneighborhood. This would be a niceaddition for people to avoid the icystreets during the winter. An indoor running track would beamazing. MPLS is spoiled w/ many greatoutdoor running areas in the summer butwhen snow & other conditions makeoutdoor rerunning difficult an indoorfacility would be an amazing benefit &would surely be supported by the MPLSrunning community.perkinswill.com18
