The boys tennis team was back in action when hosting a very solid Logansport squad last night inan NCC showdown. Logan gave us fits at every spot last night except #1 singles. The boyscame away with a 4-1 win, but was nearly a 5-0.Jon Callane continued his high level play in domination of his opponent. Jon won by the score of6-0, 6-1 and helped set the tone for the night!Next to strike for the Kats was Jackson Richards. Jackson’s opponent was very tricky, steadyand had a defensive game style that could really frustrate an opponent. Jackson did not let thisget to him and elevated his game throughout in his 6-4, 6-1 victory.Sealing the victory with the third point, Pablo Ketterer won by the score of 6-2, 7-5. Pablo’sopponent was a very athletic and quick kid that made Pablo earn his victory. I was proud of howPablo slowed and settled down to take the victory. The doubles would both prove to be battles. The # 2 doubles team of Nathanael Elkin and TaylorDuncan played lights out tennis in their opening set winning by the score of 6-0. Unfortunatelythe boys relaxed and got a little sloppy dropping the second. I was proud that they were able torefocus and re-energize themselves to take the final set by 6-0 also. Moments of great play! The final point on the night was the #1 doubles team of Ty Lauderbaugh and RajonSellers. These guys played their heart out and showed moments of brilliance! Unfortunatelythey came up a little short in three sets. The final score of that match was 7-5, 6-7(5), 106. What a dog fight! The JV was also victorious in their 4-3 win. The JV was stellar in their doubles efforts! Winnersincluded the teams of Shade Chadwell/Drew Swain, Caleb Wallace/Jacob Walker, LucasCummings/Louis Gamez, and Bobby Wonnell/Karson Parrott. Way to go guys! The varsity moved to 7-4 and the JV 6-4-1.The teams will have their hands full this weekend when hosting state-ranked Delta and WestLafayette as well as a very talented and senior heavy Lebanon squad.Good luck Kats!!!Coach Flanary

The Kokomo Lady Kats traveled to Lewis Cass last night to face the Lady Kings. This gametook fans and players alike through a rollercoaster of emotions. The Lady Kings came out strong in the first set defeating Kokomo 25-16. Not to be outdone,Kokomo came back in the second set 25-11 with a total of zero hitting errors. The Lady Kats struggled to maintain that energy in the third set and lost 25-18. With thefourth set came a revival of spirits with Kokomo winning 25-13.While this may seem like excitement enough, the fifth set was a rollercoaster to rival theother four sets. The Lady Kats had dug themselves in to a deep hole in the beginning of thefifth set when Correll Heath went back to serve. The score was 14-9 with the Lady Katsdown. After a strong run, the score read 14-14 with momentum on the Wildkats’ side. Aftertrading points back and forth, Kokomo took the final set 19-17.To say this win was a team effort would be an understatement. Malori Nichols led the hitterswith seventeen kills, ten digs, and four blocks. Jada Moore followed with twelve kills in herstrongest performance of the season. Mae Brandon added eleven kills, two aces, and elevendigs, and Asijah Miller tallied six kills with ten digs to help bring the Lady Kats kills to 40.But wait, there’s more. Correll Heath basically demanded respect from the other team withfive kills, two aces, two blocks, and 47 assists for the night. Quiet but deadly, SarahStonebraker added one kill, two aces, and thirteen digs, and the Lady Kats’ number onedefender, Jada-Claire Broomfield, kept 51 spikes from hitting Kokomo’s side of the floor. To make the night just a bit sweeter Kokomo JV Lady Kats also won clinching their first winof the season. They won 25- 23 and 25- 20.But just because the Lady Kats earned a good win doesn’t mean they get to rest. The varsityLady Wildkats will be suiting up this weekend to play a tournament in Chesterton followedby games Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday the following week.Assistant Coach Brandes
