Introduction to the 2014 Schools’ PromThis year’s Schools’ Prom once again celebrates and offers opportunitiesto showcase some of the work across the arts that children and youngpeople take part in throughout the year both in and outside school.Over the two evenings you will see just a small selection of this work thatincludes a signing choir from Hanson School. You will also hear our nowregular larger Primary Schools’ Chorus involving 19 schools over the twonights, providing over 260 pupils each night with the opportunity toperform on this most prestigious stage here at St George’s Hall.The two nights offer around 800 pupils from schools around the BradfordDistrict a stunning venue in which to show off their talents while providingyou, the audience, with just a taster of the exciting and creative activitiesthat take place in schools across the Bradford District.A huge thanks goes to all the people who have worked so hard to makethis year’s Schools’ Prom yet another big success.I hope you enjoy this evening’s entertainment.Paul MakinAssistant DirectorChildren’s Services

Southfield School Dance GroupThis performance group have worked together for many years; their workuses the stage to celebrate diversity, bringing together all abilities to studycreatively alongside each other. They believe that performance contributespositive change to every individual’s strength, finding a creativeenvironment allowing them to flourish.Bradford Youth Wind OrchestraThe Bradford Youth Wind Orchestra is the highest standard wind band inthe Music and Arts Service. They perform in numerous concerts during theyear, and have taken part in Music for Youth’s Regional Festival.Anyone Grade 4 interested in joining the BYWO should contact the Music& Arts Service on 01274 385555.SJCC Dance CompanyThe Company will perform a contemporary dance piece to Banquet by BlocParty. The company comprises of dancers from Year 7 to Year 10.

Massed KS2 Brass & Percussion EnsembleWe are delighted to join together 8 schools who are currently involved in theKey Stage 2 First Access scheme. This provides whole classes with aninitial taste of playing an instrument, while developing wider musical skills.These schemes, generally provided by the Music & Arts Service, are in placein most primary schools in the Bradford district, on a vast range ofinstruments from ukulele to samba. Students are able to continue theirplaying through continuation schemes in schools, small group lessons, andby joining one of the Music Service groups. Particularly relevant for tonight’sperformers are the Junior Brass Band, Junior Wind Bands and BatteriaPercussion group. For further details please contact the Music & ArtsService on 01274 385555.Bingley Grammar Percussion Group‘Drumline’There are 9 performers, from years 7, 8 and 9.The performance is visual, aural and technically challenging.Jake JonesJake has been playing the trombone since he was 7. He now attendsBeckfoot School in Bingley. He also attends Yorkshire YoungMusicians and was a Keighley Rotary Club Young Musician of the YearDistrict finalist in March this year.

Take 4 and 7/8A student-led band formed specifically for Beckfoot School’sYoung Musician competition, in which they won Best in Category. Theyhave been playing together for 2 years and there are 5 members fromYears 10-11.St Bede’s Male Voice ChoirSt Bede’s vocal ensemble is a male voice choir consisting of children aged11-16. They rehearse on a weekly basis during their lunch hour at schooland are directed by Tom Leech, Director of Music from the Catholic Diocese.Punjabi RootsAs a special training academy, they take an educational approach inteaching workshops, after school clubs and perform professional shows atassemblies in a number of eastern and western creative arts such asBhangra dance, Bollywood dance, Dhol Drumming, Djing, Drama.They will be showcasing a 7 minute performance through a Bhangra group.Here students (5 years old plus) have created a special dance routinewhich incorporates live instruments from Dhol Drums to PunjabiFarmland props such as a dang (tall herding stick) and role plays. Thestudents will be wearing bright and colourful traditional Indian outfits and willbe dancing barefoot.

Bradford District Schools’ OrchestraThe Bradford District Schools’ Orchestra consists of approximately 80students having instrumental lessons across the district. They have cometogether to form a large orchestra for a one off performance especially forthe Prom. The Orchestra offers students the rare chance to play in such alarge ensemble and enjoy the powerful sound around them.The Music Service offers opportunities for students to play in groups ona weekly basis, including wind bands, brass band and string orchestra.For further details please contact 01274 385555.HANdSON ChoirThe hands on signing choir have been working together since lastacademic year, with new members joining as recently as this month.As an integration of Deaf, Hearing and staff members it is a relaxing way oflearning new skills.

Bradford Youth OrchestraThe Bradford Youth Orchestra provides advanced instrumentalists with awide range of musical opportunities while covering an exciting and evermore challenging range of repertoire, from film music to classical styles.In March, they took part in Music for Youth’s Regional Festival inKirklees and are going on tour to the Rhineland in Germany in July wherethey will perform in a number of exciting venues.Anyone Grade 5 interested in joining the BYO should contactFelicity French on 01274 385555.
