Two diaphragms, centrallylocated in the chambers, separate the compressed air (dry side) from the fluidbeing pumped (wet side). A shaft transmits the reciprocating motion of onediaphragm to the other. A valve (air motor) alternatively distributes the air fromone chamber to the other; thus a reciprocating movement of the diaphragmsis created. With each stroke fluid is discharged by one of the diaphragms whilethe opposite diaphragms sucks new fluid into the expanding chamber. Checkvalves, two on the discharge side and two on the suction side, control anddirect the fluid flow.MAIN DirectFlo PUMP FEATURESIn most conventional design diaphragm pumps, the wet side of each diaphragm is on the outside and the dry side is on the inside. The use of acombined air filter andpressure regulator (1) oran air pressure regulatoris recommended. Alwaysinstall an air shut-off valve(2) for isolating the pumpfor eventual maintenancepurposes. Always use aflexible hose for connectingthe pump to the air supplywith a quick air coupler atthe hose end. The pumpoperation can be controlled bysimply opening and closing thefluid dispensing valve. Whenusing a suction tube, alwaysuse a hose (3) to connect thetube to the pump fluid inlet.Install a shut-off valve (4)for isolating the pump fromthe suction line for eventualmaintenance purposes.Pump controlThe pump can be controlledusing the AdvancedMonitoring, Tank Managementor Tank Alert Systems. Whenconnected to an air solenoidvalve in the air supply, the TankManagement or the Tank AlertSystem (6) can prevent thepump from running dry as thesystem can be programmed toclose the solenoid valve oncethe tank level has reacheda minimum value. This waypump life can be increased andthere is no possibility of airentering into the fluid line. TheAdvanced Monitoring System(7) can be used as a powerfulbatch and dosing system.
