DXC-8R/10A/30Multiservice Access NodesTo meet the needs of differentapplications, the DXC family has threechassis variants: DXC-8R (1U-high) chassis with 4 I/Omodule slots DXC-10A (1U-high) chassis with 5 I/Omodule slots DXC-30 (3U-high) chassis with 15 I/Omodule slots. All units can be mounted in 19-inch racks.Typical applications for the DXC include: Local loop access with traffic groomingfor redirecting voice and data todifferent trunks (see Figure 1) Voice and data transmission over PDHwireless devices (see Figure 2) Concentrating multiple fractionalE1/T1 lines from a cellular basetransceiver station (BTS) onto a fullE1/T1 link to the mobile switch center(MSC) (see Figure 3) CROSS-CONNECTBASIC UNITSDXC-30 provides non-blocking DS0 crossconnect for up to 120 lines, DXC-10Asupports up to 40 lines, and the smallerDXC-8R supports up to 32 lines. A userprogrammable connection matrix routesany incoming 56/64-kbps timeslot to anyoutgoing 56/64-kbps timeslot. The systemalso enables drop-and-insert andbroadcast applications. The basic DXC-30 unit includes one powersupply, one common logic module, andfifteen I/O slots for the plug-in interfacemodules. Optional redundancy for thecommon logic and power supply isavailable. To cross-connect n 56 kbps orn 64 kbps channels, the data is placedonto E1 or T1 frames using only therequired number of timeslots. Thisprovides fractional CSU/DSU functionality.E1/T1 CONVERTERThe basic DXC-10A unit includes onepower supply, one common logic module, and five I/O slots for the plug-in interfacemodules. The basic DXC-8R unit includes two powersupplies and two common logic modulesfor system redundancy. The DC powersupplies are hot-swappable. DXC-8R hasfour I/O slots for plug-in interfacemodules.DXC can function as a converter between16 E1 ports and 16 T1 ports.A-law/μ-law and signaling conversion areperformed according to the E1 and T1standards.Inverse multiplexing a single higherrate logical channel over as many as8 E1/T1 links (see Figure 4).Figure 1. COMMON LOGICThe DCL.3 common logic module storesthe matrix configuration and eventinformation, as well as the configurationfor alarm masking. It communicates withthe management station using aSLIP/PPP/Ethernet connection (by meansof an SNMP agent). DCL.3 can passmanagement information received from30 different remote sites, over TS 0 or anydedicated timeslot, to the centralmanagement site. Telnet and ASCIIterminal management, and Flash forsoftware download, are also supported.I/O MODULESNote: Refer to Table 1, and see separate datasheets for detailed specifications.DE1B is a two-port E1 module thatsupports both 2 and 16 frames permultiframe, TS 0 multiframe with CRC-4and HDB3 line code, and unframedoperation. For long-range applications, anLTU option is available. DE1B providesBERT, loopback per timeslot, and 1:1redundancy. DE1B is available with eithercopper or fiber optic interfaces.DT1B is a two-port T1 module thatsupports D4, ESF framing formats, orunframed operation. For long-rangeapplications, a CSU option is available.DT1B provides BERT, loopback pertimeslot, and 1:1 redundancy. DT1B isavailable with either copper or fiberoptic interfaces.D4SL and D8SL are four- and eightport I/O modules that use SHDSLtechnology to extend the range ofDXC up to 8 km (5 mi) on 24 AWG(0.5 mm) 2-wire copper cables.Combined with RAD’s ASMi-52 or anystandard SHDSL CPE, they extend therange of the traditional subscriberloop while saving on copperinfrastructure.Order from: Cutter NetworksD4E1 and D8E1 are 4- and 8-port E1modules that provide 4 or 8 E1 links overcopper cables, with built-in LTU, andoperate at E1 or fractional E1 rates.using different paths or facilities, toensure transmission integrity.DE3 is a single-port E3 interface modulethat multiplexes up to 16 E1 channels intoan E3 frame. DE3 is available with eithercopper or fiber optic interfaces.D4T1 and D8T1 are 4- and 8-port T1modules that provide 4 or 8 T1 links overcopper cables, with built-in CSU, andsupport T1 or fractional T1 rates.DHS is a two-port n 56/64 kbps datamodule that provides two high-speedsynchronous data channels. Each channelcan be ordered independently with a V.35,V.11/RS-422, V.24, or X.21 interface.Ethernet 10/100 Mbps bridge and IProuter versions are also available.Synchronous channels operate at datarates of n 56/64 kbps (where n is 1 to24 for T1, and 1 to 31 for E1).D8HS is an 8-port n 56/64 kbps datamodule that provides eight high-speedsynchronous data channels. Each datachannel operates at data rates ofn 56/64 kbps (where n 1 to 24 for T1and 1 to 32 for E1 links).DIM is a digital inverse multiplexer modulethat transmits a single higher-rate RS-530,V.35, X.21, HSSI, E1, or ETH signal over asmany as 8 separate E1/T1 lines. DIM splitsand transmits the individual signalsthrough DE1B, DT1B, DE3, DT3, D4E1,D8E1, D4T1, D8T1, or DFSTM-1 modules,DT3 is a single-port T3 interface modulethat multiplexes up to 28 T1 channels intoa T3 frame with either C-bit parity or M13.DT3 is available with either copper or fiberoptic interfaces.DFSTM-1 is a fractional STM-1 module thatprovides direct access to synchronousdigital hierarchy (SDH) transmission cores,at STM-1 data rates (155.520 Mbps). Anoptional second interface is available forredundancy or linear ADM (daisy-chain)configurations.D8U is an 8-port ISDN "U" interfacemodule that provides independent ISDN"U" ports, each supporting 2B Dchannels, for a total payload data rate ofup to 128 kbps per port. D8U can beconfigured either to extend ISDN linesover non-ISDN facilities, or as a dedicatedLTU (line termination unit) for RAD’sASMi-31 short-range modems.Table 1. DXC-8R/10A/30Multiservice Access NodesMANAGEMENTStatus and diagnostic information isdefined, configured, and monitored overan Ethernet management port, using anASCII terminal with SLIP or PPP protocols.A built-in SNMP agent enablesconfiguration and diagnostics of remotedevices (up to 30 remote locations) usingTS 0, a dedicated timeslot on the E1/T1trunk, or Telnet.A separate dial-in/dial-out port enablesremote configuration (dial-in) andautomatic alarm indication (dial-out). Fordial-out operation, an external modem isactivated to automatically dial apre-programmed number whenever analarm event occurs. The network management systemprovides centralized control of all networknodes, including interface configuration, connection setup, and alarm management.Alarm status and system configurationsare available at all times.A remote DXC can be programmed andsetup in two either of two ways: Out-of-band: via the Ethernetmanagement port, the supervisoryport of the remote unit, a modem link,or a FRADMultiple DXC hubs can be managed withRAD’s UNIX-based SNMP managementsystems, RADview-EMS/TDM,RADview-PC/TDM and RADviewHPOV/TDM. Inband: via either a TS 0/F-bit or adedicated timeslot using FR, PPP andRIP2 standard protocols.Figure 2. DIAGNOSTICSTIMINGDXC provides diagnostic loopbacks foreach E1/T1 or n 56/64 kbps module. E1and T1 modules perform loopbacks pertimeslot, including an internal BERT, andloopbacks toward the local or remote DTE.T1 modules also perform PLB or LLB codeinjection per ANSI T1.403. Any port can beconfigured to test and monitor data onany given port of the chassis.System timing options include internalclock, external station (master) clock, andloopback timing from any selected externalport.Enhanced statistics capabilities include T1ESF diagnostics according to ANSI T1.403and RFC 3895; E1 CRC-4 diagnostics perITU-T Rec. G.706; T3 diagnostics per RFC3896, ANSI T1 107/107a; E3 diagnosticsper RFC 3896, and STM-1 diagnostics perRFC 2258.REDUNDANCYDXC I/O modules have three types ofredundancy: Line redundancy (single-slot, 1:1)ensures protective switching betweenports on the same module in less than50 msec. Hardware (Y-cable) redundancybetween modules protects the servicefrom hardware failure. Only copperinterfaces offer this type ofredundancy. E3/T3 line and dual-slot hardwareredundancy is achieved by installingtwo DE3/DT3 modules in a chassis withonly one module being active.System hardware redundancy is possibleby means of an optional redundant powersupply and common logic (all chassisversions except DXC-10A).Figure 3.
