Learn & BuildWinter - A project to build athree legged stool is underway. This project similar to the Showand-Tell item Brue Bogust discussed in November.Spring - During the springmonths Dave Powles discussed achair making project. This armchair will have a ‘slipseat’ (upholstered sat that can besliped out). It is built with dowels joints.Registration - Look at the CWA website to register interest and sign upfor the projects; as information details appear on the website.http://www.charlottewoodworkers.org/On Mar 15 CWA members met at Jefferson Park to clean up someold wood that the Airport had asked Jefferson Park to get rid of.This was a bit of a short notice request, but as usual several members quickly responded with trucks and trailers and the pile of oldrotten wood was cleaned up in no time.In the pictures are Fred and Jeff. Warren Johnson is out of the picture because his trailer was being loaded at the time. Picture courtesy of Roger Callahan.CWA President Dave Powlesread a letter from a fellowwoodworker about a mistake hehad made while using a tablesaw that resulted in an injury. The man that wrote the letter isa publisher and is looking forstories concerning tool safetythat might be included in a bookforbeginnerwoodworkers(maybe even some more advanced and experienced woodworkers).Dave added the rule of thumbthat the user of the table saw“owns” the area of the saw fromthe front of the saw to the bladeand that anything beyond theblade is owned by the blade.Don’t mess with the blade, theblade will win.NEWSLETTERPICTURES AND NOTES:Thank you!Pete Stoffel, who takes notesMike Smith, for the picturesMike Smith organizes club membership shop tours periodically. The goal is to have shop toursscheduled in the same geographic area to reduce distances traveled between shops and permit adequate time to tour several shops in a day.To put your shop on the shop tour list, contact Mike at: mikececilsmith@gmail.comNote: Shop tours are for active CWA members only—no guestsWhat Allen Greyson learned on the last shop tour. From Mike Pleso's - how every cubic inch can be used .From Scot Royale's— the tool clad magnetic covers, opportunities for being a "tool vacuum" if you are lucky towork at Irwin, the benefits of a magnetic bar slightly above a work station and most of all 'how to present the absolute need for a shop to your wife'.From Stan Howell's—the benefits of painting your shop floor, putting your air compressor under the front porch, and how to obtain a building permit for a "room addition" when rebuilding 95% of an existing house. From Mike Smith's - the benefit of jigs and of having a 'man cave office' WITH a bathroom.
