INTRODUCTIONTHE JAGUAR S-TYPELaunched at the Birmingham Motor Show in 1998 the modern S-Type was produced from 1999 up to 2008and received a mild facelift for the model year 2005, in total 290,550 S-Types were manufactured, averagingaround 32,000 cars per year.The car, at the beginning of production, was powered by a 4.0 litre AJ-V8 engine, in 2002 a 4.2 Litre V8engine was fitted. Also in 2002 Jaguar introduced the S-Type R with a 4.2 Supercharged V8 engine, this wasdesigned to compete with the German high performance saloons such as the BMW M5 and theMercedes-Benz E55 AMG. A 2.5 V6 Petrol engine was offered at the beginning of production, although notavailable for cars exported for USA and Canada, in 2003 Jaguar introduced a revised 3.0 V6 Petrol engine,along with a revised dash, centre console and a new radiator grille with the Jaguar badge incorporated.In 2005 a mild facelift was ordered which included redesigned front and rear aprons, rear lights, an aluminiumbonnet, a slightly modified grille and new 2.7 Litre V6 Diesel engine.From 1999-2002 the S-Type had a choice of a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed J-Gate automatic, andthen from 2003 the car was produced with, once again, a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed J-Gate automaticwhich offered automatic gear selection or a clutchless manual selection.
