BB7 & BB5 mountain & roadintroductionAvid caliper assemblies need to be serviced in order to optimize braking function. If caliper brake piston motion is ‘sticky’ orlacks a positive and smooth return, the caliper body/brake piston o-ring may be out of place or damaged. Inspection and/orreplacement of these parts, due to any of the above situations, will be necessary to restore proper brake function.caliper overhaul disassembly service instructionsTroubleshooting (not pictured)The most common issue with the BB7 is that theoutboard pressure foot can become dislodged ifthe outboard adjustment knob is turned too farclockwise without the rotor in the caliper (wheeloff or caliper removed). The brake is not broken, nor does it require disassembly to replace thepressure foot. To replace the pressure foot, turnthe outboard adjuster knob counter-clockwiseuntil it stops. If the knob doesn’t stop, then thefoot screw (the end of which can be seen in thecenter of the knob) has become disengagedfrom the knob and possibly from the threadsinside the drive cam. In this case, remove theknob, then using a pair of small needle-nosepliers or a schrader valve tool, turn the the footscrew all the way back out until it stops. Nowthe pressure foot can be replaced. Relocate thepressure foot into the bore, then give it a firmpush in the center. It will click back into place. If you removed the knob, replace it and you’redone!Getting Started1.Remove the cable anchor bolt and plate, thenpull the cable housing and inner wire free of thecaliper. Remove the rubber cable boots.Remove the Brake Pads2.5Turn both adjuster knobs all the way out(counter-clockwise), then squeeze the pad tabstogether and pull both pads and pad spring clipstraight out of the caliper.12
