Allah says:And when My slaves ask you about Me, then (tell them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the du’as of thesupplicant when he calls on Me. So let them Obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright (guided).[Quran 2:186]Allah says in the Quran many times to obey Him and to obey His Messenger and to obey our parents. These three are often mentionedtogether showing how important they are.Allah commands us in the Quran to obey His Messenger (saas):And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it).[Quran 59:7]Obeying the Messenger is the same as obeying Allah:O you who believe! This is the Book (the Qur'an), whereofthere is no doubt, a guidance to thosewho are Al-Muttaqun [Qur’an 2:2]The Qur’an is the book that is revealedby Allah and we truly believe this anddo not doubt it. It contains guidancefor those who truly fear Allah and wantto be guided. And We have not sent down the Book toyou except that you may explainclearly unto them those things inwhich they differ, and (as) a guidanceand a mercy for people who believe.[Qur’an 16:64]And as to those who hold fast tothe Book and perform As-Salat,certainly We shall never waste thereward of those who do righteousdeeds. [Qur’an 7:170]Q is for QUr’ANTo hold fast to the Qur’an means to dowhat is commanded in the Qur’an. In it are Verses that are entirelyclear, they are the foundations of theBook. [Qur’an 3:7]The foundations of the Book are theayat of Al Ahkam (the commandments),Al Fara’id (obligatory duties) and AlHudud (laws of punishment)

Sometimes we can become angry andlose our temper. But it is better if wecan control anger as Allah says in theQur’an:TEMPER(Those) who control their anger, and who forgive people; verily,Allâh loves those who do good.[Qur’an 3:134]And the Prophet (saas) said:The strong person is not the onewho can beat someone with hisstrength. U is for UNITYAllah says in the Qur’an: And hold fast, all of you together, to the rope of Allah (i.e. thisQur'an), and be not divided among yourselves (3:103)We are commanded to be united in following the Qur’an. We should follow it andunderstand it in the same way as the first Muslims. If we try to understand the Qur’an withour own interpretation we will become divided.Sadly the Muslims have become divided into groups and sects because they did not followthe Qur’an in the same way as the first Muslims, even though Allah commanded them notto divide like the Jews and Christians. And do not be like the Mushrikoon who split up their religion, and became sects[30:31-32]Created by Iman Bendjedidi for www.imanshomeschool.wordpress.comPage 40

Vanity is a form of arrogant pride called ‘takabbur’ in Arabic. Tobe vain means to think you are better than others. As Muslimswe are not allowed to think we are better than someone else.We may think we are better because we have nicer clothes or abigger house. We may even think we are better than others dueto our race. But this is a very wrong way of thinking. The Prophet (saas) taught us that no Muslim is better thananother except by having taqwa and obeying Allah.V is for .He (saas) said: An Arab is notbetter than a non-Arab and nonArab is not better than an Arab;a black person is not better thana white and a white person isnot better than a black, exceptthrough taqwa and good deeds.VANITYCreated by Iman Bendjedidi for www.imanshomeschool.wordpress.comPage 41

Muslims should not be wasteful. There aremany ways in which people are wasteful. We can be wasteful with food, with energy, with money and with time. The Prophet (saas) taught us not to bewasteful with food. He said:If anyone drops a piece of food, he shouldpick it up, clean it and eat it and not leave itfor the Shaytaan. And when you finish eatingyou should lick your fingers because youdon’t know in which part of the food is theblessing. [Sahih Muslim]W is for .We must also be careful not to waste ourtime on things that will not earn us rewardand may distract us from remembering Allahand doing good deeds. The Prophet (saas) said:There are two blessings of Allah that areforgotten by most people. They are: healthand free time.WASTECreated by Iman Bendjedidi for www.imanshomeschool.wordpress.comWhile we are healthy and strong we shoulddo as many good deeds as we can and if wehave some free time we should use that to dogood deeds to and not waste it.Page 42

Y is for .The Prophet (saas) said:Yawning is from Shaytan. If anyonefeels the need to yawn he should tryto resist as much as possible and ifhe yawns he should not say ‘”haa”because Shaytan will laugh at him.[Sahih Bukhari]The Prophet (saas) said:YAWNINGYAWNINGIf one of you yawns he should coverhis mouth to stop the Shaytan fromentering.[Ibn Majah and At-Tirmidhi]The Prophet (saas) said:Yawning in the prayer is an act ofShaytan so you must try to resistyawning while praying.[Ibn Majah and At-Tirmidhi]Created by Iman Bendjedidi for www.imanshomeschool.wordpress.comPage 43
