AddendumADDENDUM TO OWNER'S MANUALWe wanted to provide you with some updatesand clarifications with respect to the printedBMW Owner's Manual. These updates andclarifications will supersede the materials contained in that document.1. Where the terms “service center,” “the service center,” “your service center,” “servicespecialist,” or “service” are used in theOwner's Manual, we wanted to clarify thatthe terms refer to a BMW dealer's servicecenter or another service center or repairshop that employs trained personnel thatcan perform maintenance and repair workon your vehicle in accordance with BMWspecifications.2. Where the text of the Owner's Manual contains an affirmative instruction to contact a“service center” or “your service center,”we wanted to clarify that BMW recommends that, if you are faced with one of thesituations addressed by that text, you contact or seek the assistance of a BMWdealer's service center or another servicecenter or repair shop that employs trainedpersonnel that can perform maintenanceand repair work on your vehicle in accordance with BMW specifications.While BMW of North America LLC, at nocost to you, will pay for repairs required bythe limited warranties provided with respectto your vehicle and for maintenance underthe Maintenance Program during the applicable warranty and maintenance coverageperiods, you are free to elect, both duringthose periods and thereafter, to have maintenance and repair work provided by otherservice centers or repair shops.3. Where the Owner's Manual makes reference to parts and accessories having beenapproved by BMW, those references areintended to reflect that those parts andaccessories are recommended by BMW ofNorth America LLC. You may elect to useother parts and accessories, but, if you do,we recommend that you make sure that anysuch parts and/or accessories are appropriate for use on your vehicle.4. At page 7, under the warranty section's discussion of homologation, where it statesthat you “cannot lodge warranty claims foryour vehicle there,” the text should readthat you “may not be able to lodge warrantyclaims for your vehicle there.”5. At page 7, under the “Parts and accessories” section, in the sixth sentence, theword “cannot” should read “does not.”6. At page 53, in the “Check and replacesafety belts” section, the text beginning,“This should only be done by your servicecenter ” should be disregarded and thefollowing text should be read in lieu thereof:“BMW recommends having this work performed by a service center as it is importantthat this safety feature functions properly.”7. At page 153 under the heading: “Objectswithin the range of movement of the pedals” and at page 211 under the heading:“Carpets and floor mats,” the paragraphthat begins: “Only use floor mats ” shouldbe disregarded and the following languageshould be read in lieu thereof: “The manufacturer of your vehicle recommends thatyou use floor mats that have been identifiedby it as appropriate for use in your vehicleand that can be properly fixed in place.”8. At page 159, under the heading: “Havemaintenance carried out,” the sentencebeginning, “The maintenance should becarried out ” should be disregarded andthe following text should be read in lieuthereof: “BMW recommends that you havethe maintenance carried out by your servicecenter.”9. At page 178, under the heading: “Mounting,” the paragraph beginning, “Havemounting and balancing ” should be disregarded and the following text should beread in lieu thereof: “BMW recommendsthat you have mounting and balancing performed by your service center or a tiremounting specialist.”11. At page 179, under the heading: “Approvedwheels and tires,” the term “Approved”should be disregarded and in lieu thereof,the term “Recommended” should be readin its place. In addition, the text of that section should be disregarded and the following text should be read in lieu thereof:The manufacturer of your vehicle stronglysuggests that you use wheels and tires thathave been recommended by the vehiclemanufacturer for your vehicle type; otherwise, for example, despite having the sameofficial size ratings, variations can lead tobody contact and with it, the risk of severeaccidents.The manufacturer of your vehicle does notevaluate non-recommended wheels andtires to determine if they are suitable for useon your vehicle.12. At page 183, under the heading: “SnowChains,” the text should be disregarded andthe following text should be read in lieuthereof:Only certain types of fine-link snow chainshave been tested by the manufacturer ofyour vehicle and are determined by themanufacturer of your vehicle to be road safeand are recommended by the manufacturerof your vehicle.Information about recommended snowchains is available from a service center.14. At page 189, under the heading: “Engine oilchange,” the text should be disregardedand in lieu thereof should be read as follows:BMW recommends that you have the oilchanged at your BMW dealer's service center or at another service center that hastrained personnel that can perform the workin accordance with BMW specifications.15. At page 191, under the heading: “Serviceand Warranty Information Booklet for USmodels and Warranty and Service GuideBooklet for Canadian models,” the secondparagraph should be disregarded and thefollowing text read in lieu thereof:The manufacturer of your vehicle recommends that you have maintenance andrepair performed by your BMW dealer's service center or another service center orrepair shop that employs trained personnelthat can perform maintenance and repairwork on your vehicle in accordance withBMW specifications. The manufacturer ofyour vehicle recommends that you maintainrecords of all maintenance and repair workperformed on your vehicle.16. At page 194 and page 196, where it reads:“Do not perform work/bulb replacement onxenon headlights,” that text should be disregarded and in lieu thereof the followingtext should be read: “Xenon headlight workor replacement can cause serious and fatalinjuries.” In the text that follows, where itreads: “[h]ave any work on the xenon lighting system ,” the following words shouldbe read as preceding that passage: “It isstrongly suggested that you ”17. At page 200, under the “Battery replacement” section, the text should be disregarded and in lieu thereof the following textshould be read:Use of recommended vehicle batteries13.
