Presidents LetterHello Millersburg Glass Association Members,In Ohio we are getting ready for a few cold winter months. Not my favorite time of year.I would like to say that the Millersburg Fall Gathering was very exciting and a huge success. Wehad several members from other states and Canada that came to the gathering and toSaturday’s auction. It was really nice to see everyone at the gathering sitting around visitingand sharing stories from the past.I especially would like to thank my wife, all board members and officers for all the work andtime they give throughout the year to make this gathering a huge success. I would like tothank Jim Wroda, his family and staff for bringing to Millersburg another great auction on thecourthouse lawn. I would like to thank the Antique Festival committee for allowing us to havethe courthouse lawn for the auction. My wife and I were honored to have John and Patricia Rogers from North Carolina visit andspend the night with us. It is a beautifulmarigold Country Kitchen bowl 81/4 wide. It is very dark radiumfinish with the edge tuned up to amaximum height of 1 3/4”. Actuallythe top edge appears to be turned inslightly, wanting to be a rose bowl. Iam attaching a photo and ask all theMillersburg members if they have amatching or similar piece in theircollection. Keep on hunting.Did you hearwhat was in“The Barrel” Thanks, Lance HilkeneDues are Due. Did you remember to send in your dues for 2015?We don’t want you to miss out on all the Millersburg Action!

Grandma’s Piece of MillersburgThis is the story of a happening that occurred in my early years of collecting Millersburg glass. The storybegins with the last evening that my wife (Laurie) and I went to visit her elderly grandmother. Grandma wasn’t able tobe up and around much and we spent a nice quiet evening visiting with her as she lay on her bed, too weak to move, but still able to visit with us and Laurie’s mom and dad. As we were preparing to leave, I sauntered over to the cornerhutch that was filled with grandma’s glass etc. In the hutch there was a some china, quite a bit of depression glass, acouple ‘hen-on-nests’ and other miscellaneous trinkets etc. Of course I was scoping it out to see if there was anyMillersburg glass included and I had almost given up when I noticed something tucked into the corner partially hiddenby the frame of the hutch and door. The first thing that caught my eye was the hobnails. Now I knew that Fentonmade a lot of hobnail pieces and my first thoughts were that it’s probably a Fenton piece. The lighting in the roomwas very soft and the hutch was at the opposite side of the room from where the lights were on. I quietly summonedLaurie to my side and asked her to get her little flashlight out of her purse. She succeeded in doing that and as Ishone the light into the corner, I could see that indeed it was a Millersburg Hobnail Spittoon. At about this time myheart starting beating a little faster as I tried to determine what color it was. After trying to shine the light on the pieceat different angles I was able to determine that it was a Green Hobnail Spittoon. Now remember, this was in the earlyyears of my collecting and I was still learning a lot about the glass. I had seen some Hobnail pieces but this was thefirst green spittoon that I

others also liked the depression glass too, as the Millersburg piece was still in the hutch when it was time to make her selection. And yes, she did select the green hobnail spi
