Eastwood ConnectAre you thetype to savea life?EASTWOOD residents are being urged topay it forward this November at a blooddonation drive.Locals will have the chance to take a momentand give back at the next session on Wednesday,November 30.The Scottish National Blood TransfusionService (SNBT) will set up shop in the village’sChurch of Broom on Broom Road East. The event will offer the ideal opportunityfor people to pay it forward and make a realdifference not only in their own community, butthe whole of Scotland. The first session will kick off at 2pm and rununtil 3.45pm before resuming at 5.15pm until7.30pmThe process of giving blood is quick andsimple. After filling in a donor health check questionnaireand having a check up from a nurse, a donorshaemoglobin (iron) level will be tested to ensurethey can actually spare a pint of blood.Once everything is checked and in order, theywill then make their donation.6Summer/Autumn 2016KGEach donation takes around 10 to 15 minutesand staff aim to take around 470mls of blood with additional samples for testing. This may sound like a lot but is actually lessthan a pint in total.Donors will have a team member with themat all times to ensure they are comfortable andhappy with the process.Every day Scottish patients receive lifeenhancing or life-saving treatments using theblood donated.Within 24 hours of a donation, blood isprocessed, tested and available for use. However, figures reveal that only five per centof the population currently give blood. To find out more, visit scotblood.co.uk
