Introduction to this bookletThis booklet guides you on how to use andmaintain your new SoundClip-A. Please read thebooklet carefully, including the Warnings section.This will help you to get the most out of your newSoundClip-A.If you have additional questions about the use ofyour SoundClip-A, please contact your hearingcare professional.

Intended useThe SoundClip-A is intended as a wireless receiverand transmitter of sound between hearing aids andthe surrounding environment, including speechand wireless electronic audio devices. TheSoundClip-A furthermore assists users of wirelesshearing aids to control the functionality provided bytheir hearing solution.The SoundClip-A is intended to be used bychildren ( 36 months) and adults together withtheir hearing solution.I M P O R TA N T N O T I C EPlease familiarize yourself with the entirecontents of this booklet before usingyour SoundClip-A. IntroductionThe SoundClip-A can be used both as a wirelessheadset for mobile phones and as aremote microphone/partner microphone.1. Getting startedBefore you can use the SoundClip-A with yourhearing aids, both the hearing aids and theSoundClip-A need to be paired/connected. Usingthe SoundClip-A with a mobile phone also requiresthe SoundClip-A to be paired with/connected toyour mobile phone.A. A. Pairing hearing aids with the SoundClip-A1. Ensure SoundClip-A ispowered off Press and hold multi button forapprox. 6 seconds until thepower indicator is OFF .2. Turn both hearing aids OFF(open battery drawer)3. Turn both hearing aids ON(close battery drawer) The hearing aids will nowbe ready for first timeconnection with theSoundClip-A. You nowhave 3 minutes tocomplete the pairing.4. Turn ON SoundClip-A Press and hold multibutton for approx.3 seconds until powerindicator showsSTEADY GREEN .16

B. Pairing mobile phone with the SoundClip-A1. Place SoundClip-A in pairing mode Press and hold the multi button AND volume upbutton for about 6 seconds (A) until statusindicator BLINKS BLUE .2. The SoundClip-A will be in pairing mode forabout 3 minutesA18

3. Enable pairing on mobile phoneTurn on Bluetooth . Search for and connect to/pairwith SoundClip-A.This is normally in the settings – Bluetooth section of your phone.4. Enter pin codeIf your phone requests apin code, enter 0000(four zeros).5. Pairing completePairing complete with mobilephone is indicated by statusindicator STEADY BLUE .19

Using SoundClip-A with a mobile phoneAI M P O R TA N T N O T I C EThe SoundClip-A should be worn as indicated forbest possible performance. It is important thatthe microphone in the SoundClip-A is pointingtowards your mouth (A), and that theSoundClip-A is not covered by clothes etc.Maximum distance between SoundClip-A andmobile phone is 10 meters.22

Ensuring SoundClip-A is connectedto the phoneSelect phone modePress and hold multi button forapprox. 3 seconds to changemode. Mode change is confirmedby an audible indication in yourhearing aids. The status indicatoris STEADY BLUE .Status DescriptionThe SoundClip-A is in idle mode, i.e. not connectedto mobile phone. Receiving callsPhone connectedWhen the SoundClip-A is turnedon and in range of your mobilephone it will automatically connectto the mobile phone.The status indicator isSTEADY BLUE .Phone ringingWhen the phone rings you willhear a ring indicator (and ifavailable, the ring-tone from yourphone) in your hearing aids.The status indicator willBLINK GREEN .24

Making callsTo make a call you only have to use the mobilephone. The call will automatically be connected tothe SoundClip-A.Once the call is connected thestatus indicator will change toSTEADY GREEN .26

Advanced headset featuresVoice dialing / voice commandWhen connected to a mobile phone, double presson the multi button activates voice dialing ifsupported by the phone.Reject callA long press on the volume down button, while thephone is ringing, rejects the call.Mute hearing aid microphonesPress and hold volume down for about 3 secondsto mute the hearing aid microphones.Short press volume up or down will unmutehearing aids.27

Listening to musicWireless audio (A2DP)If connected to a mobile phone, or other device,through Bluetooth , the music played on thephone/device will automatically be played in yourhearing aids.Status indicator is STEADY ORANGE.You do not need to operate anything on theSoundClip-A.Status 28DescriptionThe SoundClip-A is streaming musicfrom the phone

Adjusting volumeWhile listening to music, the level of the streamedsignal can be adjusted using the volume up/downbuttons.Stop soundVolume upVolume downStopping sound from phoneShort press on the multi button will stop sound.Use the controls on the phone to start the sound.29

Using SoundClip-A as remotemicrophoneRemote microphoneIn this mode speech from the person wearing theSoundClip-A will be streamed directly to yourhearing aids.Up to 20 mI M P O R TA N T N O T I C EEnsure that the microphone is pointing to thespeaker’s mouth and that it is not covered byclothes etc.30

Starting/stopping sound from remotemicrophoneAStop sound frommicrophonePress and hold multi button (A)for approx. 3 seconds to stopthe signal from the microphoneto the hearing aids and switchthe hearing aids back to theirnormal program.The status indicator will changeto STEADY YELLOW orSTEADY BLUE .32

Regulating level from remotemicrophoneVolume up or volume downThe streamed signal can be adjusted using thevolume up/down buttons.Volume upVolume downMute hearing aid microphones(only sound from the remote microphone)Press and hold volume down for about 3 secondsto mute the hearing aid microphones.Short press volume up or down will unmutehearing aids.33

Starting/stopping sound from remotemicrophone using your hearing aidsP1 – P2 – TV – MicrophoneA press on the hearing aidbutton will toggle to the nextprogram in the hearing aids.Once you reach the remotemicrophone program you willhear the remote microphoneprogram indicator.To stop remote microphone sound simply toggleback to wanted hearing aid program.I M P O R TA N T N O T I C EPlease refer to your hearing aids instructions foruse for details on the functionality of yourspecific hearing aid solution.34

Using SoundClip-A as remote controlfor hearing aidsWhen SoundClip-A is not streamingsound it doubles as a remotecontrol for your hearing aids.Volume up·· Short pressVolume down·· Short pressNext program·· Press and hold for 3 seconds fornext programMute hearing aid microphones –long press·· Short press on volume up or downwill unmuteI M P O R TA N T N O T I C EMaximum distance between SoundClip-A andhearing aids is 2 meters.35

Other features and functionsOne connection at a timeWhen paired with several devices (up to eight), theSoundClip-A will only connect to the first phoneavailable/in range.No calls when used as microphoneWhen using the SoundClip-A as partner/remotemicrophone, there will be no connection to themobile phone.Timeout (out of range) when in microphonemodeIf the SoundClip-A is out of range of the hearingaids, the hearing aids will return to their initialprogram after 90 seconds.Clear Bluetooth pairingsPress and hold multi button, volume up andvolume down for 10 seconds to clear all Bluetooth pairings. Clearing completed is indicated by statusindicator BLINKING RED .36

Cleaning the SoundClip-AUse a soft, dry cloth to clean the SoundClip-A.It must never be washed or immersed in water orother liquids.37

WarningsYou should familiarize yourself fully with thefollowing general warnings and the entire contentsof this booklet before using your SoundClip-A toensure personal safety and correct use. Consultyour hearing care professional if you experienceunexpected operations or events with yourSoundClip-A.Choking hazards and risk of swallowingsmall partsSoundClip-A and its parts should be kept out ofreach of children and anyone who might swallowthese items or otherwise cause injury tothemselves. If a small part is swallowed, see adoctor immediately.ExplosivesThe power source in your SoundClip-A hasinsufficient energy to cause fire in normal usageconditions. The SoundClip-A has not been testedfor compliance with international standardsconcerning explosive environments. Werecommend you do not use your SoundClip-A inareas where there is a danger of explosion.38

X-ray/CT/MR/PET scanning, electrotherapyand surgeryRemove your SoundClip-A before X-ray/CT/MR/PETscans, electrotherapy, surgery, etc. as yourSoundClip-A may be damaged when exposed tostrong fields.Heat and chemicalsThe SoundClip-A must never be exposed toextreme heat e.g. left inside a parked car in the sun.The SoundClip-A must not be dried in microwaveovens or other ovens. The chemicals in cosmetics,hairspray, perfume, aftershave lotion, suntan lotionand insect repellent can damage the SoundClip-A.Always remove your SoundClip-A before applyingsuch products and allow time to dry before use.InterferenceThe SoundClip-A has been thoroughly tested forinterference according to the most stringentinternational standards. However, interferencebetween the SoundClip-A and other devices (e.g.some mobile telephones, citizens band devices,shop alarm systems and other wireless devices)may occur. If this occurs, increase the distancebetween the SoundClip-A and the interferingdevice.39

WarningsUse in trafficUsing the SoundClip-A can distract you. Be awareof your surroundings while using the SoundClip-A.Please refer to national traffic laws regarding theuse of communication devices while in traffic.Use on aircraftYour SoundClip-A contains Bluetooth . TheSoundClip-A should not be used on board anaircraft, unless specifically permitted by the flightpersonnel.Active implantsCaution must be taken with active implants. If youhave an active brain implant, please contact themanufacturer of your implanted device forinformation about the risk of disturbance.Rechargeable batteryDo not attempt to open the SoundClip-A, as thismay damage the battery.40

Never attempt to replace the battery. If batteryreplacement is needed, please return device to thesupplier. The service guarantee is void if there aresigns of tampering.The safety of recharging batteries using a USBconnector is determined by the externalequipment. When the USB connector is connectedto equipment plugged into a wall outlet, thisequipment should be UL approved or comply withIEC-60065, IEC-60950 or other equivalent safetystandards.Connection to external equipmentThe safety of the use of SoundClip-A whenconnected to external equipment (via auxiliaryinput cable, via USB cable, or directly), isdetermined by the external equipment. Whenconnected to external equipment plugged into awall outlet, this equipment must comply withIEC-60065, IEC-60950 or equivalent safetystandards.41

WarningsCross controlYour SoundClip-A should be kept out of reach ofchildren or anyone who might take control of thefunctionality, to ensure your personal safety andavoid incorrect use.Use of lanyardIf by accident the lanyard is caught on somethingwhile wearing it, the lanyard is designed to breakautomatically. Therefore, never try to shorten ormodify the lanyard in an unauthorized way. Thelanyard should not be used by children under36 months of age.Possible side effectsThe otherwise non-allergenic materials used inyour SoundClip-A may in rare cases cause a skinirritation or other side effects. Please consult adoctor if these conditions occur.42

Mobile phone compatibilityPlease refer towww.bernafon.com/products/accessoriesfor a list of mobile phones that have been testedcomprehensively by Bernafon, and have beenfound to fulfil the minimum requirements forcompatibility at the time of testing. However,Bernafon takes no responsibility for suchcompatibility in general. Specifically, Bernafon shallnot be responsible for incompatibility resultingfrom future updates of the mobile phones, norfrom events of incompatibility not covered byand/or found in these tests. Bernafon takes nofinancial responsibility in terms of reimbursementsof mobile phones that do not work as expected.Before purchasing a new mobile phone, you areadvised to consult the list mentioned above.43

The 2.4 GHz radio transmitteris weak and always below 17 dBm e.i.r.p. in totalradiated power.The SoundClip-A complies with internationalstandards concerning radio transmitters, electromagnetic compatibility and human exposure.Due to the limited space available on theSoundClip-A, relevant approval markings can befound in this booklet.44

International warrantyYour SoundClip-A is covered by an internationallimited warranty issued by the manufacturer for aperiod of 12 months from the date of delivery.This limited warranty covers manufacturing andmaterial defects in the device itself, but not inaccessories such as batteries, cables, powersupplies, etc. Problems arising from improper/incorrect handling or care, excessive use,accidents, repairs made by an unauthorized party,exposure to corrosive conditions, damage due toforeign objects entering the device or incorrectadjustments are NOT covered by the limitedwarranty and may void it. The above warrantydoes not affect any legal rights that you mighthave under applicable national legislationgoverning sale of consumer goods. Your hearingcare professional may have issued a warranty thatgoes beyond the clauses of this limited warranty.Please consult him/her for further information.47
