Takingcareof yourSubaru2This booklet contains information about your Subaru’s 3year unlimited km vehicle warranty and a service scheduleto help keep it in shape.When it’s time for a service, take your Subaru to your localSubaru Authorised Dealer. They have the best Subarutechnicians, tools, genuine parts and know-how, so youcan be confident it’ll be in the best hands.On page 23 you’ll find your Subaru’s identification details.These are all you need to access your vehicle warranty, soplease keep this information safe.By following your service schedule, you’ll ensure thatwhatever lies around the corner, whether it’s a mountain,forest or wandering sheep, you’ll be confident you canhandle it.Your warranty is only valid if you get your Subaru servicedas specified, so follow the enclosed schedule on page 11.3

Vehicle WarrantySubaruwarrantyGenuine Parts and AccessoriesWarrantySubaru vehicles are guaranteed for a period of 3 yearswith unlimited kilometres from the date of first registrationagainst any manufacturing fault or defective materials.This date is entered on the Vehicle Identification Certificatepositioned front inside cover of this warranty bookletwhich is supplied with the new vehicle. The Subaruwarranty does not affect the statutory rights of the ownerof the vehicle and is in addition to any other remedieswhich he or she may have under the contract of sale.There is no better way to keep your Subaru working as itshould and uphold its value than to insist on fitting onlySubaru genuine parts during service and repair work.The use of genuine parts also ensures your new vehiclewarranty will not be compromised by the use of nongenuine parts.There are three different warranty terms for genuine partsand accessories.If, despite proper treatment and regular maintenance inaccordance with the manufacturer's specifications, anydefect occurs in factory material or workmanship in thevehicle within the period of 3 years from the date of firstsupply, delivery or registration (whichever occurs first),it will be rectified free of charge by any SubaruAuthorised Dealer. If your accessories are fitted to your new Subaru vehicleprior to delivery, they will carry the same warranty as thenew vehicle (3 years/unlimited km). If Subaru genuine parts and accessories are sold andinstalled by a Subaru Authorised Dealer they arewarranted for 2 years/unlimited km from theinstallation date.Not all repairs or adjustments result from parts defective infactory material or workmanship.There are other circumstances which may make workshopattention necessary and for which a charge may be made.These circumstances depend mainly on where the vehicleis driven and include weather and atmospheric conditions,varying road surfaces, individual driving habits andvehicle usage.4 Lastly, Subaru genuine parts and accessories thatare sold over the counter and not installed by aSubaru Authorised Dealer are warranted for 12months/20,000km from the date of purchase.5

WHAT IS NOT COVEREDWarrantyAll new Subaru vehicles imported into New Zealand bySubaru of New Zealand are covered by a comprehensive 3year unlimited km warranty during which time any SubaruAuthorised Dealer in New Zealand will be happy to attendto any parts defective in factory material or workmanship.conditionsYour Subaru Authorised Dealer will also provideassistance and advice on the correct operation and useof your vehicle.However, the owner of the vehicle is responsible forensuring that the vehicle is serviced in accordance withthe maintenance schedule contained in this booklet. Anyconsequential, direct or incidental loss or damage is notcovered by this warranty, and any statutory or other rightsor remedies available in connection with a claim for suchloss or damage should be pursued separately.6an accident or other damage, or after a defect becomesknown or is suspected. Use of non-recommended, inappropriate or dirty fuel,oil, fluids, lubricants, coolants, refrigerants, or water. Theft, illegal use, or malicious damage by a third person. Any work carried out on the vehicle by a person otherthan a Subaru Authorised Dealer. A failure to maintain and care for the vehicle, includingits body trim and paintwork in accordance with Subaru’srecommendations, e.g. use of unsuitable cleaning agents. Environmental conditions including acid rain, industrialfallout, salt, sand, stones, tree sap, bird or animaldroppings, windstorm, hail, flood, lightning or other actsof God.Repair, replacement and adjustment under this warrantyare not available for deterioration, defects, faults orfailures due to: Ordinary wear and tear. Use of the vehicle for a purpose other than for whichit was designed, having due care and respect to theprevailing road, climate, and other conditions. Wear and tear caused by use of the vehicle for racing,rallying, speed trialing, hill climbing or similar activities,or competitive events. Modifications or alterations which have not beenapproved by Subaru. Driver negligence, misuse or abuse, e.g. tampering,disconnection, loading or towing beyond Subaru’sspecifications, or continuing to drive the vehicle afterloss of fluids, lubricants, oils, coolants, refrigerantsor water. Accident, impact, fire or water damage. A failure to have the vehicle serviced or repaired instrict accordance with Subaru’s specifications andrecommendations. Installation or use of non-genuine parts and/or secondhand parts, accessories, equipment, assemblies orcomponents. A failure to have the vehicle repaired promptly and inaccordance with Subaru’s recommendations followingRepairs, replacement and adjustment under this warrantyare also not available: If the vehicle was purchased at auction. For maintenance service and parts used in connectionwith maintenance service. For corrosion other than that due to a defect in materialor manufacture. If it is not possible to determine with certainty whetherthe vehicle is out of warranty, due to the odometerreading having been altered. For any vehicle that has been written off.7

OwnerresponsibilityThe following list of items is provided as a guide to theowner of the type of items for which a charge will be madeunless their failure is caused by a defect in material ormanufacture. The frequency of replacement will dependmainly on where the vehicle is driven and include weatherand atmospheric conditions, varying road surfaces,individual driving habits and vehicle usage.Spark Plugs: Periodic replacement as listed in theservice schedule is required to ensure maximum engineperformance and best fuel economy.Servicing: Lubrication and maintenance servicing and allparts replaced in line with the maintenance schedule inthis handbook.Wiper Blades: Will have a varied life expectancy.Replacement will depend on climatic conditions andextent of use.Wheel Alignment and Wheel Balancing: The frequencyof these services depends on driving conditions such asrapid starts and stops, tyre skidding, hitting pot holes andcurbs etc.Paint, Trim and Other Appearance Items: Are affectedby normal wear and tear, and exposure to environmentalconditions. Proper care as described in your Owner'sManual can add to their appearance and durability.Damage or imperfection in paint or trim are normallyapparent during pre-delivery inspection. Please reportany imperfection to your Subaru Dealer immediately.A charge will be made for paint or trim items which requireattention due to such causes as:Mechanical Adjustments: Including brakes, clutch, doorlocks, engine tuning, drive belts, headlamps, steering gearare required as a matter of normal vehicle operation toensure longevity.Brake Linings and Clutch Components: Are directlyaffected by driving habits and type of use, and are wearand tear items. The replacement of brake linings andclutch components, and the reconditioning of brake drumsand discs should be performed as required.8Tyres: Are subject to wear. If there is a defect, the tyremanufacturer may be consulted, and a charge will only bemade for the amount of use obtained as an adjustment ismade based on the remaining tread depth. This is knownas the pro-rata method of adjustment. This warranty maynot be varied by any person except with the consent inwriting by Subaru of New Zealand.Fuel Injectors and Induction System: The removal ofdeposits and cleaning of injectors may be required fromtime to time and should be performed as necessary.Body Rattles and Squeaks: After 12 months or 20,000km, whichever should occur first, rectification of bodyrattles, squeaks, general tightening, adjustment of the fitof doors, bonnet and boot etc. will be chargeable items.Suspension: Normal wear and tear of suspension andsteering components such as shock absorbers, ball joints,bushes, driveshaft boots etc.Lighting Bulbs: Are subject to wear and tear andoperational life depends on extent and method of use.Paint: Industrial fallout, tree sap, bird droppings, stonechipping, scratches, dents, salt.Trim & Carpet: Worn, soiled, torn, cut by foreign object,damaged or normal use.9

Points to Note:however due to New Zealand conditions, Subaru ofNew Zealand recommend brake fluid to be inspectedevery 24 months and replaced every 48 months, or morefrequently under severe driving conditions.When a vehicle is used under severe driving conditions such as: Extremely hot or cold weather Driving on dusty or rough roads Living in coastal areas Regular towing of a trailer Repeated short trips Living in mountainous areas Upper Engine Cleaner: Subaru of New Zealand recommendthe use of Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner every 12 monthsor 12,500km on models with Direct Injection Engines.For all models without Direct Injection Engines, SubaruUpper Engine Cleaner is recommended every 24 monthsor 25,000km. Please note, this product is not suitable formodels equipped with Diesel Engines.More frequent servicing may be required. Your Subaru Dealership is best qualified to advise how often this should occur butthe intervals shown are the minimum requirement for safe vehicleoperation. Lineartronic CVT transmissions do not require an oilchange unless used for towing or similar high load driving. In thiscase change transmission oil every 50,000 km.New Zealand Subaru vehicles with chain driven engines arerequired to receive a 5,000km or 3 month service, whicheveroccurs first. The cost of this service is covered by Subaru ofNew Zealand.Subaru Global service intervals may differ from the onerecommended for NZ operated vehicles. Subaru of New Zealandfollows the same schedule printed in the vehicle Owner's Manualwith the main difference being the intervals for New Zealand arenot 15,000km or 12 months as found in the manual, instead inNew Zealand the intervals are 12,500km or 12 months, whicheveroccurs first.
