Section 1ACare and MaintenanceIntroducing the MiFi 2200As with any electronic device, the MiFi 2200 devicemust be handled with care to ensure reliableoperation. Follow these guidelines in using andstoring the device:䢇 Protect the device from liquids, dust, and excessiveheat.䢇 When not in use, store the device in a safe place.䢇 Do not handle or operate the device while drivingor operating a vehicle. Doing so may distract youfrom properly operating the vehicle. In somejurisdictions, operating communication deviceswhile in control of a vehicle is a criminal offense. 2. Insert the battery by lining up the gold contactpoints on the battery with the gold contact pointsin the battery compartment. Then press downgently until the battery is seated.Important3. Replace the battery cover and slide it closedwhile pressing gently until it locks into place.Do not tilt the battery sideways to insert it. Tilt ittoward the gold contact points as shown.4. The failure to use a Sprint-approved orNovatel Wireless-approved battery andcharger may increase the risk that your devicewill overheat, catch fire, or explode, resulting inserious bodily injury, death, or propertydamage.Battery life depends on the network, signal strength,temperature, features, and accessories you use.䢇 Your device will also work with certain other Sprintapproved chargers, including car chargers. Sprintapproved batteries and accessories can be found atSprint Stores; or call 1-866-866-7509 to order.They’re also available at www.sprint.com.䢇 If you connect your device to your computer using aUSB data cable, the battery will charge. However, thedevice will not function as a wireless access pointwhile connected to your computer.䢇 It normally takes at least 2.5 hours to fully charge thebattery.Section 2B. Charging the Battery7

䢇䢇䢇䢇䢇䢇New batteries or batteries stored for a long timemay take more time to charge.When charging your battery, keep it near roomtemperature.Some batteries perform best after several fullcharge and discharge cycles.When storing your battery, keep it uncharged in acool, dark, dry place.Never expose batteries to temperatures below 14 F(–10 C) or above 113 F (45 C). Never leave thedevice in an unattended vehicle due touncontrollable temperatures that may be outsidethe desired temperature for this device.It is normal for batteries to gradually wear downand require longer charging times. If you notice achange in your battery life, it is probably time topurchase a new battery.Contact your local recycling centerfor proper battery disposal.8Section 2B. Charging the Battery

Using the Master Reset ButtonYour device comes with a master reset button thatallows you to return it to its factory default state.The master reset button is recessed in a hole on theback of the device. You will need a paperclip orsimilar object to push the button.1. Make sure the device is powered on.2. Locate the master reset button on the back of thedevice near the battery cover.12Section 2C. Insert a paperclip into the hole and hold thebutton down for three seconds until the greenLED goes off and then blinks.Your list of wireless networks will now show theoriginal default network when you first configuredyour device.4. Connect to the device again and reconfigure itusing the Initial Setup Wizard. (See “Connectingto the MiFi 2200” on page 9.)

(If thisis the first time you have entered the browserinterface or if you have used the master resetbutton, the Initial Setup Wizard will launch.)2. Enter the Administrative password into the Loginpassword box in the upper right corner and clickLogin.3. Configure the DeviceSetting Up a Temporary HotspotYou can use the device to set up a temporary hotspotto allow a maximum of five devices to connect to yourMiFi 2200.1. Open the browser interface (page 13).2. Select WiFi WiFi Profiles from the menu bar at thetop of the Home screen.3. Select Temporary Hotspot from the Profile list.The screen that appears shows a new temporaryNetwork Name (SSID) and Network Key.4. Note the temporary hotspot Network Name andNetwork Key. In the example shown above, theyare “Sprint MiFi2200 A41 Temp” and “12345”.5. Click Apply and then give the Network Name andNetwork Key that were generated to yourworkgroup so they can connect to the device.
