It wasthen included on the programme of the 1904, 1908 and 1920 Games before disappearing forover 50 years. The Games of the XX Olympiad in Munich in 1972, saw the re-introduction ofarchery on the Olympic programme. Women were able to compete in archery events at the 1904and 1908 Games, then again, like the men, in 1972. The latest addition is a mixed teamcompetition which will make its debut at the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo in 2020.KEY STAGESEntry1900: First appearance at the Games of the II Olympiad in Paris in 1900.1907: At the 10th IOC Session held in The Hague in May, archery was amongthe sports chosen for the Games of the IV Olympiad in London in 1908.Optional sports1924: At the 23rd IOC Session held in Paris in June and July, the IOC drew upa list of optional sports. Archery was included in this list.Entry rejected1932: The addition of archery on the Olympic programme was addressed atthe 31st IOC Session held in July in Los Angeles. The proposal was rejected.1946: The request for archery to be on the Olympic programme was onceagain rejected at the 40th IOC Session held in Lausanne in September.1957: At the 54th IOC Session held in Sofia in September, it was decided toremove the distinction between obligatory and optional sports and to createonly one list of sports featured on the Olympic programme.
