SETUP and OPERATIONCongratulations on the purchase of your Simmons spottingscope, a versatile high-performance spotting scope offering awide range of terrestrial viewing.MOUNTING THE SCOPE ON THE TRIPODFirst, fold open the mini tripod's legs and place it on a sturdy, levelsurface. Attach the spotting scope to the included mini tripod byturning the mounting screw on the top of the tripod clockwiseinto the socket on the base of the scope until it is securelyattached (but do not overtighten). The socket on the base is astandard size (1/4"-20 thread), so any tripod of any size may alsobe used with this scope.USING THE TRIPOD PAN ARMTo tilt or pan the scope, first loosen the head of the tripod bytwisting the tripod's pan arm handle counter-clockwise, move thescope into the desired position, then tighten the tripod head bytwisting the handle in a clockwise direction.CHANGING MAGNIFICATIONUnscrew and set aside the eyepiece cover tube. Grasp and rotatethe zoom ring located at the base of the eyepiece to change thescope's magnifying power. When rotating this ring, the imageappears to zoom in and out. It may be necessary to re-focus afterzooming from a low to a high magnification setting.FOCUSINGRotate the focus knob (located on the right side of the scope'sbody) until the image appears in sharp focus.USING THE EYECUP AND SUNSHADEIf you wear eyeglasses, fold down the rubber eyecup if you havedifficulty seeing the entire image. If the sun is at an angle to thescope rather than behind you, glare may be a problem, causingreduced image quality. If so, extend the sunshade out past theend of the scope.2

CARE and CAUTIONSCAREThe optics of your spotting scope are treated with special antireflective coatings for increased light transmission. As with anycoated optics, special care must be taken in cleaning the lenses.Moisten the surface of the lens slightly and wipe dry using acircular motion starting at the center of the lens. Wipe or brush offany dirt or dust on the outside of the spotting scope.CAUTIONNever disassemble your spotting scope. Special tools andequipment are required for service and irreparable damage canresult from repair attempts by untrained persons. Unauthorizedservice may also void the warranty. NOTE: This spotting scopemodel is not waterproof/fogproof and should not be submergedor exposed to heavy and/or prolonged rain, snow or other formsof moisture.CAUTION: DO NOT LOOK AT OR NEAR THE SUNTHROUGH THIS SPOTTING SCOPE, AS SEVEREDAMAGE TO YOUR EYES MAY RESULT !3
