Psalm 23King James Version1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:he leadeth me beside the still waters.3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in thepaths of righteousness for his name's sake.4Yea, though I walk through the valley of theshadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thouart with me; thy rod and thy staff theycomfort me.5Thou preparest a table before me in thepresence of mine enemies: thou anointestmy head with oil; my cup runneth over.6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow meall the days of my life: and I will dwell inthe house of the Lord for ever. INTRODUCTIONTHE PSALMThe 23rd Psalm. We read it in our times of loss. We quoteit for comfort in difficult times. We inscribe it on plaquesto hang on the walls of our homes. As author Max Lucadostates:"Do more beloved words exist? Framed and hungin hospital rooms, scratched on prison walls, quoted by the young, and whispered by the dying. In these lines, sailors have found a harbor, thefrightened have found a father, and strugglers havefound a friend." Max LucadoBut could it be that the amazing spiritual legacy containedin this psalm is sometimes overlooked because of ourfamiliarity with it? Do we really understand that in thisPsalm alone, we have all we need to live successfully inthis world and to be prepared for the one to come? The purpose of this study is to take an in-depth look at oneof the most beloved portions of scripture of all times--the23rd Psalm--to mine spiritual riches from every phrase andword, seeking for understanding as one would search forhidden treasure:My son, if you receive my words,And treasure my commands within you,So that you incline your ear to wisdom,And apply your heart to understanding;Yes, if you cry out for discernment,And lift up your voice for understanding,9

If you seek her as silver,And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord,And find the knowledge of God.For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge andunderstanding. (Proverbs 2:1-6, NKJV)Psalm 23 is part of a sequence of psalms that explores thesymbolism of the Lord as the Shepherd of His people.Psalms chapters 22-24 are often referred to as the“shepherd psalms”.-In Psalm 22, God is portrayed as the GoodShepherd. The chapter is a prophecyforetelling the death of the Lord Jesus Christ for thesins of mankind.-In Psalm 23, the subject of this study, He isportrayed as the Great Shepherd who seeks lostsheep and brings them into His flock.-In Psalm 24, the Lord is the Chief Shepherd who isportrayed as coming in power and glory as King ofKings. Most Bible scholars conclude that Psalm 23 was written byDavid when he was a young man serving his father, Jesse,as a shepherd. In these six verses, David shares a spiritualanalogy of the Lord as a Shepherd and His people as sheep, drawing from the extensive knowledge and experiencewhich he gained as a shepherd. As a good shepherd, Davidknew his sheep by name, his sheep knew his voice, andthey followed him. David knew that a good shepherd neverleaves his sheep alone and that he searches for lost sheep torestore them to the flock. The shepherd provides for their10

needs and protects them from predators (1 Samuel 17:3435).Jacob was actually the first person in the Bible to use theshepherd metaphor for God (Genesis 48:15). From thattime on, the Holy Spirit repeatedly uses the image of ashepherd as exemplified by this prophetic word about thecoming Messiah:He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shallgather the lambs with his arm, and carry them inhis bosom, and shall gently lead those that are withyoung. (Isaiah 40:11, KJV)Jesus identified Himself as that Shepherd (John 10:11-16).He is also called the Great Shepherd (Hebrews 13:20) andthe Chief Shepherd (1 Peter 5:4). We need a shepherdbecause we easily become lost. Like sheep in the naturalworld, we have a herd instinct to follow the crowd. Isaiahsays that we all, like sheep, have gone astray and turned toour own sinful ways (Isaiah 53:6). Jesus warned:Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate andbroad is the way that leads to destruction, and thereare many who go in by it. Because narrow is thegate and difficult is the way which leads to life, andthere are few who find it.(Matthew 7:13-14, NKJV)Wide is the gate for the untamed herds of this world.Narrow is the pathway traveled by the Shepherd and Hissheep. There is only one Shepherd and one door to Hisfold (John 10:1-2). This is why we must follow in thefootsteps of the Shepherd and His flock (Song of Solomon1:7).11

You are about to begin an awesome spiritual journey doingjust that! If you do not know the Lord as your Shepherd, you will be given the opportunity to become part of Hisfold. In fact--He is already seeking for you right now:What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave theninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the onethat is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly,I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep thanover the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even soit is not the will of your Father who is in heaventhat one of these little ones should perish.(Matthew 18:12-14, NKJV)If you do not know the Lord as your personal Savior, theGood Shepherd wants you to join His flock. If you alreadyknow the Lord as your Shepherd, then this study explainsthe rich spiritual legacy provided for you as recorded inPsalm 23. The goal of this study is not information, butrevelation. Its purpose is to enable you to come to knowthe Good Shepherd and become intimately acquainted withHim.It is time to begin our spiritual trek. The Shepherd hasprovided everything you need for the journey. You needno map or directions, for He will lead the way. So let'sbegin.12

Psalm 23The Passion Translation1The Lord is my best friend and myshepherd.I always have more than enough.2He offers a resting place for me in hisluxurious love. His tracks take me to an oasis of peace, thequiet brook of bliss.3That’s where he restores and revives mylife. He opens before me pathways to God’spleasure and leads me along in his footstepsof righteousness so that I can bring honor tohis name.4Lord, even when your path takes methrough the valley of deepest darkness, fear will never conquer me, for you alreadyhave! You remain close to me and lead me throughit all the way.Your authority is my strength and my peace. The comfort of your love takes away myfear.I’ll never be lonely, for you are near.13

5You become my delicious feasteven when my enemies dare to fight. You anoint me with the fragrance of yourHoly Spirit;you give me all I can drink of you until myheart overflows.6So why would I fear the future? For your goodness and love pursue me allthe days of my life. Then afterward, when my life is through,I’ll return to your glorious presence to beforever with you! (TPT)(Each chapter of this study is introduced with Psalm 23 ina different version of the Bible with the specific verseunder consideration in bold-faced type.)14

CHAPTER ONETHE PERSON:HE IS MY SHEPHERDThe first phrase of this Psalm is "the Lord is my shepherd".Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, David makes adeclaration--a thesis statement as it were--and then spendsthe rest of the Psalm proving it. Let's examine this openingverse word-by-word.The. He is not just any Shepherd. He is the Shepherd. Allroads do not lead to God. Jesus said: ".Verily, verily, Isay unto you, I am the door of the sheep" (John 10:7).There is one door to the sheep fold, and it is Jesus Christ. He is THE one way to God:Neither is there salvation in any other: for there isnone other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)Lord. This Hebrew term is translated 6,800 times in theOld Testament. It is the special, unique name for God. It isnot a title--such as is given to the lords and ladies ofEngland. It is God's name as revealed to Moses:Then Moses said to God, "Indeed, when I come tothe children of Israel and say to them, 'The God ofyour fathers has sent me to you,' and they say to me,'What is His name?' what shall I say to them?" AndGod said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And Hesaid, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'IAM has sent me to you.” (Exodus 3:13-14, NKJV)In essence, God was saying to Moses, "This is my name. Iwant you to know it so you can call me by it because I want15

to have a personal relationship with you!" That name is “IAm”. Fill in the blanks after “I Am” with whatever youneed, because He is whatever you need Him to be in yourlife. As your Shepherd, He is the Lord of your life. In Scripture, the word “Lord” is the Hebrew name “Jehovah”. It is thepersonal name for God that distinguishes Him from falsegods. Our Shepherd is not just any Lord, He is The Lord. The name “Lord” also implies His sovereignty. Before Hecan be your Shepherd, He must become your Lord. That isthe prerequisite for claiming the amazing promises ofPsalm 23.Is. The word “is” in the active present tense confirms thatHe is today and shall be in the future your Shepherd. Justas He is David's Shepherd, He also IS your Shepherd. There is no “if” or “but”, no “I hope He is.” He simply is.My. It is one thing to say “The Lord is the Shepherd” andanother to say, “The Lord is my Shepherd.” David used thepersonal pronoun "my." He did not say "the Lord is theShepherd of the world in general." He declared: "The Lordis a Shepherd to me. He cares for me. He watches overme". It is personal.Shepherd. Of all the many names of the Lord that Davidcould have used in this Psalm, he was led of the Spirit touse the Hebrew name “Jehovah-Rohi” which means “TheLord My Shepherd”. Why? Because the image of ashepherd tenderly leading, feeding, and caring for his sheepis a perfect picture of our Savior’s relationship to Hispeople. The word most commonly used for “shepherd” isra‘ah, which is also the Hebrew word for “best friend.” The16

translation of the word in this Psalm includes bothmeanings. The Lord Jesus Christ is your Shepherd andyour best friend. In John 10:11, Jesus reveals Himself as the Shepherddeclaring “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd laysdown his life for the sheep.” In John 10:14, Jesus declared:“I am the good shepherd and know my sheep, and amknown of mine” (John 10:14, KJV). From these passageswe learn that Jesus is our Shepherd, He is a good shepherd,He knows us, we know Him, and He lays down His life forus. The very fact that the Bible reveals the Lord as a Shepherdinfers that He has sheep. Who are these sheep? Accordingto the Bible, people are His sheep:Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who hasmade us, and not we ourselves; We are His peopleand the sheep of His pasture. (Psalm 100:3, NKJV)The Bible says that when Jesus saw the multitudes, He wasmoved with compassion for them “because they were assheep not having a shepherd” (Mark 6:34, KJV). He sawpeople as sheep in need of a shepherd. The reason we needa Shepherd is because:All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turnedevery one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid onhim the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6, NKJV)Because of sin, we have all gone our own rebellious ways.Only through the death of Jesus Christ can we return to theShepherd of our souls. It is that simple, yet so marvelousand wonderful that it is hard to fathom.17

The Bible reveals that there is one sheepfold and oneshepherd. The "fold" is the Church which is composed ofall born-again believers. The "shepherd" is Jesus Christ. There is only one way into the fold, and that is throughJesus who said: “ I am the door; by me if any man enterin, he shall be saved” (John 10:9, NKJV).The sheepfold is not exclusive. The door is open to all whocome to Him:And other sheep, I have, which are not of this fold:them also I must bring, and they shall hear myvoice, and there shall be one fold, and oneshepherd. (John 10:16, NKJV)At the time of Christ's ministry, shepherds developed aclose relationship with their sheep. The shepherd was thereat the birth of a lamb and he guided them their entirelifetime. Shepherds loved their sheep, gave each one aname, and cared for each one tenderly. Many a shepherdinterposed himself between wild beasts and his sheep inorder to protect them, and at night he slept in the singledoorway to his sheepfold to guard them from predators. Anenemy would have to pass by the shepherd in order toattack the flock.Using this analogy, Jesus is your spiritual shepherd:-He is the Good Shepherd who knows you byname:I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, andam known by My own. (John 10:14,27, NKJV)18

-He is the Compassionate Shepherd who is touchedby your infirmities:For we have not an high priest which cannot betouched with the feeling of our infirmities; but wasin all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.(Hebrews 4:15, KJV)-He is the Comforting Shepherd who comforts youin all of your tribulations:Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord JesusChrist, the Father of mercies and God of allcomfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, thatwe may be able to comfort those who are in anytrouble, with the comfort with which we ourselvesare comforted by God. (2 Corinthians1:3-4, NKJV)-He is the Saving Shepherd who gives His life foryou:I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd givesHis life for the sheep. (John 10:11, NKJV)-He is the Living Shepherd who was resurrectedfrom death in order to save you from the power ofsin and death:Now may the God of peace who brought up ourLord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd ofthe sheep, through the blood of the everlastingcovenant, make you complete in every good work todo His will, working in you what is well pleasing inHis sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be gloryforever and ever. Amen.(Hebrews 13:20-21, NKJV)19

-He is the Seeking Shepherd who came to save thelost: for the Son of Man has come to seek and to savethat which was lost. (Luke 19:10, NKJV)-He is the Concerned Shepherd who loves lostsheep:What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if heloses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine inthe wilderness, and go after the one which is lostuntil he finds it? And when he has found it, he laysit on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comeshome, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have foundmy sheep which was lost!' (Luke 15:4-6, NKJV).-He is the Chief Shepherd who will return to saveyou from the presence of sin: and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you willreceive the crown of glory. (1 Peter 5:4, NKJV)THE SHEPHERD’S MARKIn the natural world, shepherds mark their sheep foridentification by branding them with a unique logoindicating ownership. Spiritually, there is a distinct markupon the man or woman of God that differentiates themfrom the world and identifies them as part of Christ’s flock:My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and theyfollow Me. And I give them eternal life, and theyshall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them20

out of My hand. My Father, who has given them toMe, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatchthem out of My Father's hand.(John 10:27-29, NKJV)When you chose to follow the Good Shepherd, you becameone of His sheep. He knows you, His has placed His markupon you, and no one can take you out of His hand. Just asShepherds brand their sheep in the natural world to confirmownership, you are “branded” as His lamb. He has alsowritten your name on the palm of His hands:Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not havecompassion on the son of her womb? Surely theymay forget, Yet I will not forget you. See, I haveinscribed you on the palms of My hands.(Isaiah 49:15-16, NKJV)The sad fact is that some will choose not to follow. Jesussaid: “But you do not believe, because you are not of mysheep.” (John 10:26, KJV). It is for these lost lambs thatthe Shepherd continuously searches.THE SHEPHERD'S SEARCHThe Bible declares that our spiritual Shepherd came to seekand save the lost (Luke 19:10). The word “seek” as usedhere means to “search with intensity”. So, what or who islost for which the Shepherd is so earnestly seeking? We know that Jesus came to save lost souls from sin, butHe also came to save “that” which was lost, meaning allthat was lost through sin. So what was lost?21

-Man’s relationship with God was affected. Nolonger could sinful mankind enter God’s presence.-Man’s peaceful relationship with others was lost.Adam blamed Eve for his sin and their son, Cain, killed his brother Abel.-Man’s relationship with the environment wasaffected. Previously, work was a joy, but as a resultof sin man had to labor under the curse of weeds, thorns, and pests.-Man’s emotional well-being was lost. Fear andshame entered into the psyche.-Health was lost, as pain and disease entered theworld.-Eternal life was lost, as death became the penaltyfor sin.The good news is that Jesus Christ, your Shepherd, came torestore all that was lost through sin. He is not on a salvageoperation, but a mission of complete restoration. Hispurpose is not to make you a patched up version of your oldself, but to make you a new creature in Christ.-He restores your relationship with God:Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that ispassed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let ushold fast our profession. For we have not an highpriest which cannot be touched with the feeling ofour infirmities; but was in all points tempted like aswe are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly22

unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.(Hebrews 4:14-16, NKJV)-He restores your relationship with others:But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far offhave been brought near by the blood of Christ. ForHe Himself is our peace, who has made both one,and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, thelaw of commandments contained in ordinances, soas to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcilethem both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He cameand preached peace to you who were afar off and tothose who were near. For through Him we bothhave access by one Spirit to the Father. Now,therefore, you are no longer strangers andforeigners, but fellow citizens with the saints andmembers of the household of God.(Ephesians 2:13-19, NKJV)-He reverses the curse, so that your labor can be ajoy:Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursedis every one that hangs on a tree.(Galatians 3:13, NKJV)23

-He calms every fear:Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's goodpleasure to give you the kingdom.(Luke 12:32, KJV)-He bears your shame so that you need not bear it:Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of ourfaith; who for the joy that was set before himendured the cross, despising the shame, and is setdown at the right hand of the throne of God.(Hebrews 12:2, KJV)-He restores your health:But He was wounded for our transgressions, Hewas bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement forour peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we arehealed. (Isaiah 53:5, KJV)-He restores everlasting life:For God so loved the world, that he gave his onlybegotten Son, that whosoever believeth in himshould not perish, but have everlasting life. ForGod sent not his Son into the world to condemn theworld; but that the world through him might besaved. (John 3:16-17, KJV)Whatever your loss through sin, sickness, heartache, circumstances, or relationships, the Good Shepherd came toseek and save that loss.24

IS HE YOUR SHEPHERD?You have tried life on your own. How is that working foryou? Do you lack true purpose and direction for your life?Do you feel bogged down in the mud and mire of thisworld? Are you turning to things like drugs and alcohol toease your pain? Are you unable to find the green pasturesand cool waters of life? Then you need the Shepherd!Take time right now to read John chapter 3 which explainsin detail what it means to be born-again. To become part ofthe fold of the Good Shepherd, take these steps:Step One: Acknowledge you are a sinner. “For all havesinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).Step Two: Recognize that the penalty of sin is death. Godwarned Adam and Eve that if they sinned, they would die. This meant both spiritual death, which is separation fromGod's presence, and physical death. When Jesus died on the cross He died in your place. Hedied for your sins so you could have everlasting life: “Forthe wages of sin is death, but the gift of God eternal lifethrough Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23, KJV). Ifyou accept His sacrifice for sin, you are no longer under thepenalty of death. You are no longer spiritually dead, separated from thepresence of God:For He Himself is our peace, who has made bothone, and has broken down the middle wall ofseparation For through Him we both have accessby one Spirit to the Father.(Portions of Ephesians 2:14 and 18, NKJV)25

You no longer face eternal death, as Jesus promised:For God so loved the world that He gave His onlybegotten Son that whosoever believeth in Himshould not perish but have everlasting life.(John 3:16, KJV)Step Three: Repent of your sins, ask forgiveness, andconfess that Jesus died for you:If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselvesand the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, Heis faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and tocleanse us from all unrighteousness.(1 John 1:8-9, KJV) The word is near you, in your mouth and in yourheart (that is, the word of faith which we preach):that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesusand believe in your heart that God has raised Himfrom the dead, you will be saved. For with theheart one believes unto righteousness, and with themouth confession is made unto salvation.(Romans 10:8-10, NKJV)When you present your life to God in this manner, you are"born-again" spiritually: “Therefore, if any man be inChrist He a new creature; old things have passed away;Behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17,KJV).In the natural world, healthy lambs can stand immediatelyafter birth and within minutes they are able to join the herd. The same is true spiritually. If you just received Jesus asyour Savior, then welcome to the Good Shepherd’s flock!26

Psalm 23Wycliffe Translation1 The Lord governeth me, and nothing shallfail to me;The Lord governeth me, and there isnothing that I shall lack;2in the place of pasture there he hath set me.He nourished me on the water of refreshing;(he hath set me in a place of pasture. Henourished me by the waters of refreshing;)3he converted my soul. He led me forth onthe paths of rightfulness; for his name. (hetransformed my soul. He led me forth on thepaths of righteousness/on the right paths; forthe sake of his name.)4For though I shall go in the midst of shadowof death; I shall not dread evils, for thou artwith me. Thy rod and thy staff; those havecomforted me. (For though I go in the midstof the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil;for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they have comforted me.)27

5Thou hast made ready a board in my sight;against them that trouble me. Thou hastmade fat mine head with oil; and my cup, that filleth greatly, is full clear. (Thou hastprepared a table before me; before thosewho trouble me. Thou hast covered my headwith oil; and my cup, which thou greatlyfilleth, is full, indeed it runneth over.)6And thy mercy shall follow me; in all thedays of my life. And that I dwell in thehouse of the Lord; into the length of days.(And thy love shall follow me; all the daysof my life. And I shall live in the House ofthe Lord forever and ever.) (WYC)28

CHAPTER TWOTHE PROVISION:HE PROVIDES MY NEEDSBecause the Lord is my shepherd.I shall not want. This is not an isolated promise. There are many otherscriptures that assure the Shepherd’s commitment toprovide for His sheep. Here are some examples:-The Word declares that you will have all goodthings:For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord willgive grace and glory; No good thing will Hewithhold From those who walk uprightly.(Psalm 84:11,NKJV)-The Word declares that you will have no want:Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no wantto those who fear Him. (Psalm 34:9, NKJV)-The Word declares that if you ask anything inChrist’s name, He will do it:If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.(John 4:14, NKJV)-The Word gives you a blank check: All your needssupplied according to Christ’s riches in glory. Youhave an unlimited account:29

And my God shall supply all your need according toHis riches in glory by Christ Jesus.(Philippians 4:19, NKJV) and there are many more similar promises. Someonecalculated 8,000 promises in the Bible. Whatever youneed, Jesus has said “Yes and Amen so be it.” He hasgiven you the guarantee of His promises by His Spirit:For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and inHim Amen, to the glory of God through us. Now Hewho establishes us with you in Christ and hasanointed us is God, who also has sealed us andgiven us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.(2 Corinthians 1:20-22, NKJV)Jesus establishes you, anoints you, seals you, and gives youHis Holy Spirit as a guarantee--not only of your salvation, but of all of His promises.DIVINE PROVISIONFirst let's dispel some erroneous teaching about the phrase"I shall not want". Some people distort this promise tomean things that were never intended and, as a result, thesheep become disillusioned by expecting the Shepherd todo things that He never promised to do.For example, “I shall not want” does not necessarily meanmaterial prosperity. Some people in the Bible likeAbraham, Isaac, and Jacob were wealthy. Others--likemany of the prophets--were poor. Even Jesus had no placeto lay His head. Some nations are rich, some are poor.Material prosperity of an individual or nation is a blessingwhen God bestows it, but it is not a sign of spirituality orlack thereof.30

The Apostle Paul warned:People who want to get rich fall into temptation anda trap and into many foolish and harmful desiresthat plunge men into ruin and destruction. For thelove of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Somepeople, eager for money, have wandered from thefaith and pierced themselves with many griefs.(1 Timothy 6:9-10, NIV)All the things that you want that seem so important areusually temporal. Most of the things you crave are wants-sometimes even covetousness--and not legitimate needs. Ifyou are consumed by materialism, it is time to change yourfocus to spiritual things. The Bible warns:Do not love the world or the things in the world. Ifanyone loves the world, the love of the Father is notin him. For all that is in the world--the lust of theflesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--isnot of the Father but is of the world. And the worldis passing away, and the lust of it; but he who doesthe will of God abides forever.(1 John 2:15-1, NKJV)Jesus promised that whatever you ask in His name you willreceive. To ask in His name, however, means it must be inharmony with His will. One of the reasons for unansweredprayer is that we ask for the wrong reasons:You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.(James 4:3, NKJV)31

The phrase "I shall not want" means that the Shepherd willprovide the necessities of life like food, shelter, clothing, and sufficient funds for your needs. There will be divineprovision--whether it is supernatural manna from theheavens, multiplied loaves and fish, or a stone in astreambed that is designed to take down a giant. He willprovide what is needed, not every whim of a materialisticmindset.Jesus said:So why do you worry about clothing? Consider thelilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toilnor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon inall his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Nowif God so clothes the grass of the field, which todayis, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will Henot much more clothe you, O you of little faith?"Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall weeat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall wewear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need allthese things. But seek first the kingdom of God andHis righteousness, and all these things shall beadded to you. (Matthew 6:28-33, NKJV)God will supernaturally provide your needs by multiplyingwhat you have. He did it By ravens during a famine (1 Kings 17). By the multiplication of oil and flour(1 Kings 17:16). By providing money for taxes in the mouth of afish (Matthew 17:27).32

Some people erroneously teach that "I shall not want"means you will never be sick. While healing is part of theatonement of Jesus Christ (Isaia

Psalm 23 is part of a sequence of psalms that explores the symbolism of the Lord as the Shepherd of His people. Psalms chapters 22-24 are often referred to as the “shepherd psalms”. -In Psalm 22, God is portrayed as the Good Shepherd. The chapter is a prophecy foretelling the death of the Lord Jesus Christ for the sins of mankind.
