“His resolve and hard workhad him walking with his newleg in no time”After more than a decade as a professionalsnocross and motocross racer, MikeSchultz suffered what for many would havebeen a career ending injury.During the ISOC National ChampionshipSnocross Series Stop at Michigan in December2008, Mike was involved in a crash that causedmajor trauma to his left knee resulting in theabove the knee amputation of his left leg.Support poured in from his thousands of fansaround the country. With their encouragementand the love of his family, Mike attacked hisrecovery with the same tenacity he used toprepare for racing.“If you want to accomplish somethingbad enough, you will find a way.”His resolve and hard work had him walking withhis new leg in no time, and he was back on hissnowmobile a month after being released fromthe hospital.04 MIKE SCHULTZSoon Mike realized that his determinationwould allow him to do everything that he haddone before the accident. However, currentprosthetic knees lacked the function necessaryfrom Mike to ride like he knew he could. Withnothing more than his own ingenuity, amountain bike shock and some equipment in hisgarage, Mike set to work building a knee thatwould enable him to ride again.Losing a leg could not extinguish Mike’scompetitive Spirit. He improved his newlydesigned “Moto Knee” and he returned to racing.INTRO TO MIKE

Seven months after his accident, Mike tookhome a silver medal from the Adaptive Super-Xat the ESPN Summer X Games on his dirt bike.Six months after that he won gold at the firstever Winter X Adaptive Sno-X race.He has proceeded to rack up more X Gamesgold medals and even a Championship winin the Pro Vet class on the ISOC NationalChampionship Series in 2012 against allable bodied competitors. Which still standsas one of his greatest achievements to date.Mike has met this challenge head on with thebelief that “if you want to accomplishsomething bad enough, you will find a way.” Hehas developed his custom Moto Knee and VersaFoot into a successful business called BioDaptthat is on the leading edge of action sportbased prosthetic equipment. Hundreds ofamputees across the world have been able tobenefit from this equipment and have had theopportunity to live a more enjoyable, active andhealthy lifestyle because of it.“Everyone needs a positive goal to focus on inlife to keep you moving forward.
