Letter from the PresidentTony NelsonIt’s hard to believe it’s been six monthssince our spring conference. The Boardhas been busy preparing for our 2013and 2014 conferences. We’ve had a fewdiscussions regarding the direction of ournewly formed Education Committee andhave already begun our first venture byoffering the Fastener InformationDirectory (see additional info in thisnewsletter). We are in discussionsregarding incorporating a more intense,than in the past, educational program inour Spring ’13 conference. We are also inthe beginning discussions about holdingadditionalregionaleducationalopportunities that will be a big benefit toyour employees. Stay tuned to upcominge‐Newsletters for more information andbe sure to attend the conference in StoneMountain for details and to provide inputthat will help us shape the direction ofthis new offering.It was great to see many of our membersin Last Vegas at the National IndustrialFastener Show. Many stopped by ourbooth to pick up preliminary springconference information. We will mail thebrochures in January but for a sneak peakand to take care of your registration early,visit our website: www.thesefa.comWhile in Las Vegas, I had the opportunityto attend the Fastener Industry Coalitionmeeting. The FIC is made up of fastenerassociations across the country. This wasmy first FIC meeting and an importantone as the National Fastener DistributorsAssociation is currently the chair whichgave them a great opportunity to sharethe news of their new structuring. Iappreciated Jay Queenins (current NFDAPresident) candidness in explaining thechallenges of setting NFDA in the mostlogical direction for their members andthe industry. He expressed theirrealization of the strengths of all theregional organizations and the sensibilityof working with different groupsthroughout the year. The FIC group willmeet again next June at Fastener Tech ’13.I look forward to again participating inthis meeting and will report on theprogress. I look forward to the newdirection that NFDA appears to beheading in and hope that we can worktowards a future level of cooperationbetween the SEFA, NFDA, and all theother regional organizations so as toachieve a mutual benefit for ourmembership.But back to the spring conference, I amvery excited about the 2013 venue, StoneMountain, GA, as it offers manyopportunities for those wishing to takean extra couple of days to enjoy the park.The conference center and golf course areboth located right in Stone Mountain Parkoffering great views!Our membership is growing; however,we’d love to expand, especially, in theAtlanta area during these next months toallow new members the chance toparticipate in their first SEFA conferenceat a local venue.
