PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS21

A.PRE-PRODUCTION PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS1.It was very hard to find someone who really knew or hadthe knowledge of Muay Thai at present.haveVarious techniquesdisappeared in mordern fighting by forgetting or neverpassing them on to the fighters by the masters.only general forms or techniques of fighting,This leftso most of theinformation for this documentary has been gatherwithinquiries from old folks in the provinces including muchinformation from old books in the library.was based on a real life story, used.Because this filmreal people and places wereIt is not likely to find a training camp that is up tothe standard or fighters that have the abilities andinteresting life2.to fulfillSCRIPT PREPARATIONthis project.Only a rough script was used becauseof the lack of information available.completed according to the script,Shooting could not bebecause shooting mustdepend on the event and circumstance. Also, the fighters orboxers would not fight exactly the way they were told.Whether the shot was complete or not had to depend on how thefighters obeyed the orders of the trainer and followed orreacted with discipline and luck.3.SHOOTINGAcknowledgementwas made during the inquirylocations to assure the local people that this project wasfor educational purpose and not for the benefit of abusiness.Permission had to be obtained from ring-for

master, training camp owner and promoter of the fight event.Shooting had to be within prescribed circumstances, the specific space that has been prepared.specified matchpermission. Also, and inonly thethat had been assigned when make inquiry forTherefore,it was impossible to shoot anothermatch at the event for stockfootage.

B.PRODUCTION PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS.There werea few problemsin the production ofthisdocumentary.1.CAMERA MOVEMENT.Most of the shooting was done indoors,so there are lots of problems in camera movement due to thelimited space of the location.shots can not be done, and onlyDolly shots and trackingZooms In,Zooms Out,Pans,Tilts with the hand held camera were possible.2.LIGHTING.It was not possible to arrange speciallighting and existing light had to be used in the trainingcamp or stadium. If the light had been planned,it would bea nuisance and divert the attention of the fighters. Therefore, lighting was prohibited inside the stadiumresulting in not having enough light foe some parts of thisdocumentary.3.EQUIPMENT (camera).done with Video tape,Productiontherefore, itof this documentarywas very important ingetting WHITE-BALANCE to check the color.distorted the imagewasThe camerawhen a white subject (actor wearingwhite shirt) moved in and out of camera range causing thecamera to adjust color automaticly. In addition, the use oftwo cameras of different types and brand names createddistortion and color shifts which made it very hard whenediting to keep continuity.4.There was no way to set the subject or move the subject

inthe direction required for shooting. Therefore, duringtraining or at the real fight, the subject was constantly outof focus. Therefore,to correct this problem, the Long Shotand was used in this part. The use of a Close Up or MediumShot would probably make the subject be out of frame.inthe class room could shotsOnlybe retaken. The rest must bein one take in training or the real fight.

C.POSTPRODUCTION PROBLEMS AND SOLUTION.Doing postproduction for this documentary consumed alot of time due to various during the making of the film.I.ELECTRICITY.There was some damage to the film in theediting and color controling machine (time base) caused bythe instability of electric current in Thailand which alwaysbelow from what itsupposed to be.The machine had to besent to the factory to be repairedinturn it caused a delayin editing.2.SCRIPT PREPARATION FOR EDITING.from allof the footage.happened when allThe script was preparedThe main problems of this partthe footagewasnot enough to provide allthe details of the story, and it was recorded on the tapebefore editing. Therefore, some extra shots had to be takento create the picture length to match exactly with theexplanation.3.Because this documentary has lots of details and theexplanation had to be in English, the explanation wasrecorded on the tape first.4.Editing the video tape was difficult and morecomplicatedthan editing film.into a section as desired.finish,The tape can not be cut offIt has to be edited from start toand insertions have to be made again,it meantanother editing from the begining to the end had to beafter the insertions were completed.done

.Due to the limited equipment for special effects, not possible to control the alphabet.Therefore,itwassub-titleswere made by moving up each line one at a time and cover theunused linewith blank piece of paper.
