This brochure offers a means ofvisual communication between clinicians and laboratories. Thearrangements within provide an actual illustration and description ofthe aesthetic effect that will be achieved with the mould form noted.Face Form As A Guide ToNatural Anterior ArrangementThe principle of natural aesthetic harmony between face form andmaxillary anterior tooth arrangement has been well demonstrated byextensive clinical research and application in many private dentaloffices. In essence, the principle is there are four basic face formclassifications observed in nature. For each of these face forms thereis a workable corresponding basic anterior tooth arrangement.Similarly, modifications appearing in the basic face form may bereflected by corresponding modifications in the anterior arrangement.Below, the four face forms are described and illustrated. On thefollowing pages, twenty-four anterior arrangements are shown - fourBasic arrangements plus five modifications for each of the four basicforms. A suggested procedure is to classify the patient by face form, then to specify the desired arrangement for the try-in denture. Finalindividualizing can be accomplished at the try-in appointment. The Square FaceIn the Square Form, the sides of the face from thehairline to the levels of the condyles to the angles of thejaw are straight and parallel.Anatomy of Natural TeethThe Square Tapering FaceIn the Square Tapering Form, the sides of the head areparallel from the condyles upward. From the condylesdownward along the sides of the face, the outlinetapers into the angles of the jaw.The Tapering FaceThe Tapering Face is widest at the hairline andnarrowest at the angles of the jaw. The lines convergein towards the jaw.The Ovoid FaceThe Ovoid Face is widest through the center at the levelof the condyles. It curves upward and downward toform an oval outline.2

Note that the centrals areset practically straight across, with the lateralsalso having a full labial aspect.Mould 12G Illustrated2SoftenedArrangementMould 31F Illustrated3VigorousArrangementTo achieve a softening of the basic Squareform and arrangement, in this case a SquareOvoid tooth has been used. Note that whilethe centrals are predominantly Square, thedistal corners are rounded to achieve theOvoid or softening effect. An additionalsoftening of this arrangement has beencreated by the inward rotation of both lateralstoward the distal. In this arrangement, a slightly larger andlonger Square-type central has been used. The centrals are rotated outwardly at thedistals and the right lateral is depressed at themesial. The left lateral is rotated slightly inwardat the distal.Mould 11G Illustrated4AsymmetricalArrangementMould 22E Illustrated5CrowdedArrangementMould 12E Illustrated6SpacedArrangementMould 13E IllustratedThis arrangement utilizes a Square Taperingform tooth to achieve the desired asymmetry. The right side has been softened bydepressing the lateral and canine. Conversely, the left side presents a more dominantappearance with the central and lateral setprominently, as in a typical Square-typearrangement. The left lateral is rotatedoutward at the distal to achieve a slightlystronger effect.Normally, a crowded condition is notusually found in the Square arch because of itsbroadness and resulting adequate room forthe eruption of all teeth. However, in someinstances, particularly where the natural teethmay be slightly larger than normal, this doesresult in a crowded condition. In thisarrangement the centrals and laterals arelapped and rotated to produce the effect ofcrowding. In the Square arch form, spacing is morelikely to be found than the crowdedcondition. The spacing condition in theSquare arch obviously results from theopposite cause of crowding. The naturaltooth form is smaller than normal, andvariable spaces develop betweenpractically all the teeth. In this arrangementthere is mild spacing between all teeth. The anterior arrangements shown represent Portrait IPN and Bioform IPN mould forms. For more information, visit www.dentsplysirona.com.34

3900 Ant Arrangement Rev 5.qxp 3900.qxd 9/26/17 3:56 PM Page 7Tapering and ModifiedTapering ArrangementsLabial Aspect7BasicArrangementIncisal AspectDescriptionThis Tapering arch converges to a pointmidline between the centrals. The caseis developed to give the typical effectof the Tapering-type arrangement.Mould 42F Illustrated8SoftenedArrangementMould 45F Illustrated9VigorousArrangementMould 43F Centrals andLaterals with Mould 42GCanine Illustrated10AsymmetricalArrangementA long ratio tooth form is set in atypical Tapering alignment, with theoverall effect of softness created by therounded form of the laterals. Slightasymmetry with dominance on the leftside has been introduced. The right sideis slightly softened by the rotationdistally of the lateral.A slight departure from the typicalTapering alignment. This effect hasbeen created by the outward rotationof both laterals at the distal, with slightspacing between the right central, lateral and canine. Larger canines areused for a more vigorous effect. In this arrangement, the left side isdominant. This has been accomplishedby rotation of the left lateral out at thedistal. Each tooth is set to a differentlong axis, adding to the naturalappearance of the arrangement.Mould 45F Illustrated11CrowdedArrangementA typical crowded arrangementfrequently found in the Tapering arch. The left central overlaps the rightcentral, and the distal of the rightcentral overlaps the mesial of the rightlateral. The left lateral has beennoticeably elevated.Mould 42G Illustrated12SpacedArrangementIn the Tapering arch, spacing betweenthe teeth will usually be found when theteeth are too small in relation to thesize of the arch. To simulate this effect, spacing may be introduced to avariable degree between any or allteeth as indicated or desired.Mould 42D IllustratedThe anterior arrangements shown represent Portrait IPN and Bioform IPN mould forms. Thecentrals are set fairly prominently, withthe laterals and canines elevated.Mould 22G Illustrated14SoftenedArrangementA Square Tapering form set to a softerarrangement. The laterals have slightlyrounded distal corners and are rotatedin at the distal, thereby creating anarrower arch effect.Mould 21D Illustrated15VigorousArrangementA medium sized tooth in anarrangement made more vigorous byarranging the centrals without rotation. The left lateral is slightly rotated out atthe distal, and the right lateral isdepressed and elevated. This gives anoverall appearance of vigor or strength.Mould 25G Illustrated16AsymmetricalArrangementMould 75E Illustrated17CrowdedArrangementA Square Tapering Ovoid or compositetooth form is used in this arrangementto develop asymmetry. The right side ofthe arrangement is dominant, due tothe prominent position of the rightlateral, as contrasted with thedepressed and rotated position of theleft lateral. This crowded arrangement is producedby lapping the left central over the rightcentral. Right and left laterals areelevated and rotated, so that theoverall appearance gives a lapped orcrowded effect.Mould 21X Illustrated18SpacedArrangementA smaller sized tooth than normal hasbeen used in this case. Slight spacinghas been introduced between all of theteeth.Mould 21C IllustratedThe anterior arrangements shown represent Portrait IPN and Bioform IPN mould forms. 3900 Ant Arrangement Rev 5.qxp 3900.qxd 9/26/17 3:56 PM Page 11Ovoid and ModifiedOvoid ArrangementsLabial Aspect19BasicArrangementIncisal AspectDescriptionThe typical full curvature of the arch isshown in this Ovoid-type arrangement. The soft Ovoid characteristics of thetooth form are quite evident in thecentrals, laterals and canines, and theteeth are set to a full curve.Mould 65G Illustrated20SoftenedArrangementMould 55F Illustrated21VigorousArrangementA softening effect of the basic Ovoidarrangement developed by using toothforms slightly less broad in their labialaspect. A Tapering Ovoid tooth form isset to the characteristic curve of theOvoid arch. The long axis of thecentrals is noticeably divergent. Thelaterals are elevated and canines havebeen rotated in slightly at the distal.A vigorous arrangement of the basicOvoid form. Mould 62G is a wider andlonger Ovoid form and presents abolder labial surface. This is noticeablyaccentuated by the outward rotation ofthe centrals at the distal.Mould 62G Illustrated22AsymmetricalArrangementThis arrangement utilizes a SquareOvoid form as part of the asymmetricalinfluence. This effect has been createdby the depression of the right lateraland canine. The left lateral is elevated, rotated and spaced at the mesial.Mould 32E Illustrated23CrowdedArrangementMould 62D Illustrated24SpacedArrangementWhile the crowded condition is not toocommonly observed in the Ovoid arch, the eruption of oversized teeth in anormal or small arch will obviouslyproduce crowding. This is generallyanifest by a lapping and rotating withinthe basic curvature of the Ovoid-typeform. Characteristically, this lapping orrotating is usually minor and not aspronounced as in the Tapering arch form.An example of an Ovoid modified form(Tapering Ovoid) in an Ovoid arch. Theteeth are slightly out of proportion, being smaller than normal for this sizearch. This manifests itself by variablespacing between one or more of theteeth.Mould 55D IllustratedThe anterior arrangements shown represent Portrait IPN and Bioform IPN mould forms.
