Ball Activated DifferentialSafety Firing Assembly - HP/Ultra HPHTDESCRIPTIONThe High Pressure / Ultra High Pressure Differential Safety Firing Head was designed to be used inseveral different well conditions. This Firing Head has a set of ports to allow circulation of well fluidsprior to activation. A drop ball is introduced into the work string, which conveyed the firing head downhole. The ball can be allowed to free fall or be pumped down to the differential piston. The piston ispinned to a predetermined differential pressure and, once the ball is seated, then pressure is appliedagainst the piston and seated ball. When the piston is sheared free, it will strike the Hydro-SafetyImpact assembly releasing the firing pin. This action will allow the well’s hydrostatic pressure to drivethe released firing pin into the detonator. Once the firing head assembly is activated a set of ports areexposed, allowing circulation of well fluids after detonation. The HP / Ultra HPHT differential piston uses a 3/4” or a 1” ball. The pressure piston can be differentially pinned up to 6,000 psi @ 72 FBENEFITS Overbalanced Tubing Conveyed Perforating in highly deviated wells with open perforations. When achieving an absolute pressure is not possible. In a situation where it is desirable to allow the tubing to fill itself while tripping in the well. Ultra HPHT applications; 30 Ksi and 500 F. Ball Activated DifferentialSafety Firing Assembly - HP/Ultra HPHTWarning:The assembly of this tool requires the handling of anExplosive Device and all safety precautions must be adhered to andobserved! Only personnel trained in explosive handling proceduresshould be allowed to arm this assemblyWarning:When running this tool below a flapper valve or anydevice that can isolate tuning from annulus, there is a potential totrap pressure between the differential piston and the flapper valve. This may occur if the ball is landed in place but the piston doesnot shear. For this configuration it is recommended that the O-Ringon the differential piston be omitted. When the O-Ring is omittedadditional flow may be required to reach shear pressure and shift thepiston.Note: Check all items against the parts list to be sure of having thecorrect parts and quantities.Note: Check for any damage to the parts which would prevent the partfrom being assembled correctly, easily and safely.Note: This tool is designed to function in one ballistic event. Theuser must determine if the firing head is suitable for additional runs andassumes all liability for use.1.0 Assembly1.1Install the API Seal Ring (item #10) into the Body (item #4) thread groove of the EUEconnection. Apply grease to the internal sealing surface of the Body. The distance to the backof the sealing surface on the Body is 8” and may require an extension to apply the grease.Use appropriate high temperature grease per application. Set the Body aside.6 I MAN-TC-022 (R00)MAN-TC-022-2375-800.indd 6 2015 Owen Oil Tools All rights reserved10/29/15 2:45 PM

Apply grease to the O-Rings on the Firing Pin and Insert intothe Firing Pin Body until the retaining ball groove in the pin is aligned with the retaining ballholes on the body. If using the O-Ring Back Up install items #19 into the groove of the FiringPin and items #20 into the groove of the Firing Pin Body prior to installation of the Firing Pin.Note: The orientation of the O-Ring Back Ups is critical. Make sure theconcave radius is in contact with the O-Ring. Make sure the location ofthe O-Ring Back Ups is placed in line with the direct pressure 2015 Owen Oil Tools All rights reservedMAN-TC-022-2375-800.indd 7MAN-TC-022 (R00) I 710/29/15 2:45 PM

Ball Activated DifferentialSafety Firing Assembly - HP/Ultra HPHT1.3Use the Retainer Cap (item #3) for the next section. Partially thread one of the Brass ShearScrews (item #11) into the top countersunk threaded hole that is 180 from the 1/8” slot. Makesure the Brass Shear Screw tip does not extended into the I.D. of the Retainer Cap.1.4Apply a small amount of grease in each retaining ball hole and insert the five Retaining Balls(item #8). The retaining balls will sit in the Firing Pin groove and should recess below the O.D.of the Firing Pin Body. Slide the Retaining Cap over the Firing Pin Body and align the 1/8” slotwith the 3/16” hole in the Firing Pin Body (item #2). Once aligned thread the top Brass ShearScrew into the brass screw hole on the Firing Pin Body. The top of the Brass Shear shouldrecess below the O.D. of the Retainer Cap.8 I MAN-TC-022 (R00)MAN-TC-022-2375-800.indd 8 2015 Owen Oil Tools All rights reserved10/29/15 2:45 PM

Ball Activated DifferentialSafety Firing Assembly - HP/Ultra HPHTNote: You can use a 1/8” rod to help align the 1/8” slot with the 3/16”hole.1.5Secure the Retaining Cap by threading the last two Brass Shear Screws (item #11) into theassembly. The Brass Shear Screws should recess below the O.D. of the Retaining Cap andextend into the holes on the Firing Pin Body. 2015 Owen Oil Tools All rights reservedMAN-TC-022-2375-800.indd 9MAN-TC-022 (R00) I 910/29/15 2:45 PM

Ball Activated DifferentialSafety Firing Assembly - HP/Ultra HPHT1.6Install the O-Rings (item #18) onto the Det. Body Housing (item #7). Install the O-Ring (item#17) into the groove face of the Det. Body Housing. Carefully insert the Percussion Detonator(item A) into the recess of the Det. Body Housing. Apply grease to the O-Rings and threadof the Firing Pin assembly and thread into the Det. Body Housing until it contacts with theDetonator. Tighten just enough to secure the detonator. Use the exposed section of the firingpin to tighten, not the Retaining Cap. Avoid scarring the O.D. surface of the Firing Pin Bodywhile tightening.Warning:You are handling an explosive device and all safetyprecautions must be observed and adhered to!1.7Install the O-Ring (item #16) onto the Piston (item #6). Calculate the number of Shear Pins(item #12) to be used, by referring to the Pinning Calculation Sheets for shear pin values vs.temperature. Align the Piston shear pin groove with the shear pin holes in the Support Sleeve(item #5). Insert the selected number of pins into the shear pin holes. Install the O-Rings (item#13) into the shear pin groove on the Support Sleeve to retain the pins.Note: It is recommended to install the shear pins with the componentsin the vertical position. Note: Space the pins symmetrically as possiblearound the tool to provide a balanced shearing force.10 I MAN-TC-022 (R00)MAN-TC-022-2375-800.indd 10 2015 Owen Oil Tools All rights reserved10/29/15 2:46 PM
