Power Down System/PWRDWNSYS (continued)After pressing F4, the screen below is displayed.Specifies whether the system allows the active subsystemto end processing of active jobs in a controlled manner(which lets the application program perform endprocessing), or whether the system ends the jobsimmediately. In either case, the system does performcertain job-cleanup functions.*CNTRLDThe subsystem, in the time specified by the Controlledend delay time (DELAY) parameter ends all active jobsin a controlled manner. During that time, programsrunning in those jobs are allowed to perform cleanup(end-of-job processing). When a job being ended has aCopyright 2013 Essential Business ResourcesThe Essential iSeries (AS400) Operations Command GuidePage 27 of 30

signal handling procedure for the asynchronous signalSIGTERM, the SIGTERM signal is generated for that job.If the possibility exists that an active job couldbegin to loop or send an inquiry message to QSYSOPR,you should specify a time delay using the DELAYparameter.*IMMEDThe subsystem ends all active jobs immediately. Whena job being ended has a signal handling procedure forthe asynchronous signal SIGTERM, the SIGTERM signal isgenerated for that job and the QENDJOBLMT system valuespecifies a time limit. Other than by handling theSIGTERM signal, the programs running in those jobs arenot allowed to perform any cleanup. A minimum amountof time is required when *IMMED is specified. Theamount of time allowed for cleanup when *IMMED isspecified is controlled by the system valuesQENDJOBLMT and QPWRDWNLMT.Note: The *IMMED value might cause undesirableresults if data has been partially updated. Thisvalue should be used only after a controlled endhas been attempted unsuccessfully.Note: When *IMMED is specified while the systemis operating under auxiliary power, or if thedelay time specified in the Controlled end delaytime (DELAY) parameter ends while the system isunder auxiliary power, the system is immediatelypowered-down without additional job cleanup activity.Controlled end delay time (DELAY) - HelpSpecifies the amount of time, in seconds, that the systemallows a controlled end to be performed by the activesubsystems. If the end of job routines are not finishedin the specified delay time, any remaining jobs are endedimmediately.3600The amount of time in which to complete a controlledend of processing is limited to 3600 seconds.*NOLIMITThe system does not power down until the last job isCopyright 2013 Essential Business ResourcesThe Essential iSeries (AS400) Operations Command GuidePage 28 of 30

complete.Note: If *NOLIMIT is specified, a batch job couldbegin to loop, and the system does not power down.1-99999Specify the maximum amount of delay time, in seconds,in which a controlled end can be performed.Restart after power down (RESTART) - HelpSpecifies whether the system ends and powers down, orwhether the system ends and then starts again inunattended mode. The second element of this parameter specifies the pointfrom which the initial program load (IPL) restarts.Specifying *SYS rather than *FULL can reduce the timerequired to restart the system.Element 1: Restart after power down*NOThe system ends and powers down.*YESIf the system is on utility power, it undergoes end ofprocessing (but does not power down) and then does anabbreviated IPL. If the system is on auxiliary power,it powers down and an automatic-IPL occurs whenutility power is restored (if QPWRRSTIPL system valueis set to '1'). When the system starts again or whenan automatic-IPL occurs, the IPL proceeds in anunattended mode. In unattended mode, displays such asthe IPL options display are not shown.Element 2: Restart type*IPLAThe value specified on the Change IPL Attributes(CHGIPLA) command is used. To determine the currentsetting for this value, use the Display IPL Attributes(DSPIPLA) command.*SYSCopyright 2013 Essential Business ResourcesThe Essential iSeries (AS400) Operations Command GuidePage 29 of 30
