1. INTRODUCTION:Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sheikhpura, Patna – 800 014 is anAutonomous Super specialty Institute of the State of Bihar – established by the act of Statelegislature vide IGIMS Act. 1984. Various facilities are available at this Institute to cater to theneeds of patients belonging to the State of Bihar and neighboring states. It is situated at Sheikhpuraon Bailey Road, Patna, having sprawling 130 acres campus in the heart of city. Patna JunctionRailway Station, Bus Stand & Air Port is located within 6 kilometers of the Institute.Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sheikhpura, Patna is a tertiary care superspecialty hospital, providing clinical services, training, research and various educational programmeof highest standard. PG/Post doctoral Courses like M. Ch./D.M. & M.D. Subsequent to theamendment of IGIMS Act in 2007, IGIMS Medical college has been started with annual intake of100 students since 2011.At present the Institute provides clinical services in various disciplines includingNephrology, Urology, Gastroenterology, G.I. Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiology,Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, Reproductive Biology, General Surgery, Pediatrics Surgery, andCommunity Medicine. Regional Institute of Ophthalmology and Regional Cancer Centre (CancerTreatment and Research Center) are providing specialized services in respective fields. Clinicalservices are backed by investigative services including conventional Radiology, Ultrasound, WholeBody Spiral CT Scan, Biochemistry, Histopathology, General Pathology, Microbiology, VideoEndoscopy, Urodynamics, EEG/EMG Lab. etc. Institute provides emergency services to acutely illPatients.AIMS & OBJECTS OF THE INSTITUTERelevant provisions of the IGIMS Act 1984 pertaining to the objects of the Institute isreproduced below:“The objects of the Institute shall be:(2)To develop on apex centre for delivery of health and medical care of highest standard;(3)To train specialists of high order in different branches of medical services;(4)To improve the health services, in the State through appropriate linkages and referralsystem with Medical Colleges and District and Sub divisional hospitals;(5)To develop the continued education programme and award degrees, diplomas andcertificates and postgraduate degrees;(6)To develop clinical research centre for conducting investigation on the problems ofhuman health and diseases peculiar to and prevalent in this part of the country;(7)To develop Community Health Research Center to study and find out solutions to theproblems of health of the community with particular emphasis on reproductive biologyand population control; and(8)To develop research and training in basic sciences relevant to the problems and needs ofthe community.”6

INSTITUTE OF EXCELLENCE:Relevant provisions (Clause 6) of the IGIMS Act 1984 declaring the Indira Gandhi Institute ofMedical Sciences as an Institute of Excellence is reproduced below:“Declaration of Institute as an Institute of Excellence- It is hereby declared that the IndiraGandhi Institute of Medical Sciences shall be an Institute of Excellence.”LOCATION AND JURISDICTION OF THE INSTITUTE:Clause 4 (iii) of the IGIMS Act 1984 pertaining to location and jurisdiction of the Institute isreproduced below:“The Institute shall be located in Patna, its jurisdiction shall extend to the whole of State ofBihar.”2.COURSES AND NUMBER OF SEAT:The Institute will conduct combined Entrance Examination for Admission to Nursing andParamedical Courses being offered at the Institute. IMPORTANTThese courses shall be self financing and the selection of the candidate will not confer any rightfor appointment in Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sheikhpura, Patna -14.3.RESERVATION:As per Bihar Government reservation rules. If requisite number of suitable candidates are notavailable to fill up the seats reserved for the Scheduled Castes, the same will be filled bycandidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes and vice-versa. In case suitable candidates are notavailable from the two reserved categories, the vacant seats will be filled up by the candidatesfrom the MBC/OBC category. In case suitable candidates are also not available in the MBC/OBCreserved category, the same will be filled up by the candidates from the general category.ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:4.1.a) Only Indian citizen can apply.b) Candidate applying should have attained or will attain the age of 17 years as on the 31st July of theyear of admission.b) For admission to B.Sc. and paramedical courses candidate should have passed the 12th classunder the 10 2 scheme/Senior School Certificate Examination or Intermediate Science or an equivalentexamination from a recognised University/ Board of any Indian State with English, Physics, Chemistryand Biology.c) All candidates should have obtained minimum 45% for General 40% for reserve categories intheir 10 2 examinations.4.2 Only female candidates are eligible for B.Sc. Nursing/GNM courses.4.3 A candidate who is appearing in the qualifying examination prior to the competitive test, or whoseresult is awaited may also apply and appear in the said test(such candidate has to attach appearingcertificate/proof for the qualifying examination), but he/she shall not be eligible for admission to anycourse, if he/she does not pass the qualifying examination and produce the relevant certificate at the timeof counseling.8

1.METHOD OF SELECTION5.15.2Entrance examination for the Degree and the Diploma courses will be held separately.Candidates willing to apply for both the courses need to apply separately for Degree andDiploma courses.5.3The selection is based upon written objective test, which is to be held on notified date.Candidates are required to appear in the Entrance Examination at their own. The written test willcomprise of multiple choice question of Intermediates Science standard. The result will bepublished on the notice board/website of the Institute. The successful candidates will be calledfor counseling to be done on merit cum Marks basis. Successful candidates shall undergo formedical checkup by the medical board of Institute only. Medically fit candidates will be finallyadmitted for the course.5.4The minimum cut-off qualifying marks shall be 32 percentile for SC/ST 34 percentile forMBC,36.5 percentile for OBC and 40 percentile for General candidates.5.4.1 In special circumstances when seats are vacant even after 2nd counseling and no candidate isabove cut off marks vide above the competent authority is authorized to take decision regardinglowering of minimum cut off marks.(a) B. Sc. Courses: One paper of 2 hours duration and consisting of four parts containing objective type (MultipleChoice) Questions, with distribution of marks as eneral Knowledge & English30303010Total:100Each question will contain equal mark. Duration of examination will be 2 hours. There is nonegative marking.(b) Diploma Courses:One paper of 2 hours duration and consisting of four parts containing objective type (MultipleChoice) Questions, with distribution of marks as ogy30General Knowledge & English 10Total:100Each question will contain equal mark. 5.5In case of two or more candidates obtaining equal marks in the competitive entranceexamination, the inter-se-merit of such candidates shall be determined in order or preference asbelow:a. Candidate obtaining higher marks in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the 10 2 examination.b. Candidates obtaining higher marks in Chemistry in the 10 2 examination.c. Candidates older in age.d.HOW TO APPLY6.1Candidates willing to apply for both the Degree and the Diploma courses have to applyseparately.6.2Application received with incomplete information shall be rejected.6.3Application received after last date will not be considered. Submission of filled application formby hand is not allowed.6.4Candidates have to down load the Application Form from Institute website. He/She shall have toattach a Demand Draft of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 500/- for SC/ST) in favour of Director, IGIMS, Patnapayable at Patna as cost of application otherwise the application shall be considered in-completeand will be rejected.6.5Direction for filling-up forms:-a.The application should be sent only in the prescribed form provided along with the prospectus.b.The Application Form should be duly filled in by the applicant in his/her own handwriting andsent to the office of Dean, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sheikhpura, Patna –800 014 by Registered/Speed Post Only.6.6PHOTOGRAPH:iFour numbers of recent black & white passport size photographs are required. Photograph isto be pasted on Application Form, Admit Card etc.iiPhotograph must have been taken with name of the candidate and date. Name date on thephotograph must be clear.Passport Size PhotographName of CandidateDate:6.7No certificate or testimonial shall be given along with application form. All certificates inoriginal need to be produced during counseling.In case of wrong information filled in Application Form their claim to the seat will berejected.10

7.GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:7.1 Candidates applying for both the Degree and the Diploma courses should apply in separateapplication forms.7.2 Incomplete applications and those received late will be rejected and no correspondence would beentertained in this regard. Candidates are advised to dispatch the filled up application form well inadvance to ensure that filled up form reaches in time. Applications received after due date shall besummarily rejected. Postal delay shall not be ground for consideration of applications received afterdue date.7.3 The list of eligible candidate will be displayed on Institute Notice Board/Institute websiteon 15/06/2015.7.4 Duplicate Admit Card can be obtained personally from the office of the Dean, IGIMS, Sheikhpura,Patna on 25/06/2015 & 26/062015 between 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. IGIMS, Patna will not beresponsible for any postal delay.7.5 The medium of written test will be English. Question will be multiple choices with objective type of10 2 standard. For GNM course guidelines of Nursing Council, Bihar will be followed.7.6 The result of selected candidates shall be published on Notice Board/Website of the Institute.7.7 The original Certificate/mark sheets (Matric & Intermediate Science, College Leaving Certificate)and Admit Card of the Entrance Test will have to be submitted for verification at the time ofcounseling for admission.7.8 In the case of SC/ST candidate’s caste certificate duly issued by the SDO (in original) will have tobe submitted for verification at the time of counseling for admission.7.9 OBC/MBC Candidates must submit caste certificate along with certificate of the exemption fromCreamy Layer (in Original) duly issued by SDO for verification at the time of counseling foradmission.7.10Original certificate SHOULD NOT be sent with the application. These should be produced asand when asked by the Institute.7.11Candidates should note that only the date of birth as recorded in the MatriculationCertificate/Higher Secondary Examination or an Equivalent Certificate on the date of submissionof application will be accepted by the Institute and no subsequent request for its change will beconsidered or granted.7.12Candidates are warned that they should not furnish any particulars that are false or suppress anyinformation in filling up the application form. Candidates are also warned that they should in nocase correct or alter or otherwise tamper with any entry in a document or its attested/certificatecopy submitted by them nor should they submit a tampered/ fabricated document.7.13If the candidates are called for counseling, it does not mean that candidates will be admitted tothe course.7.147.15The candidate may have choice of course during counseling on the basis of Merit cum Choice.The candidate allotted the course/seat during the counseling if does not report within thestipulated period after counseling, the registration will be cancelled automatically and the seatwill be allotted to the next candidate from the second counseling f
