It’s just a glimpse ofwhat’s happening and sometimes a bit of fun! Don’t take it too seriously!ALL THE NEWS THAT ISN’T THE NEWSA tragic and difficult story to start this month’s DNTN. Many of you will already have heard about the horrificaccident that happened just outside the Costambar Gate when a truck transporting equipment to the SanFelipe planta lost control, rolled backward down the hill, jackknifed and plowed through the tinybar/restaurant run by long-time residents and business owners Paul & Belgica (many will know them from themany places they have run including the Catamaran on Costambar Beach). The building was almostcompletely destroyed and both Paul and Belgica were seriously injured. Unfortunately, Belgica succumbed toher injuries later in hospital. It is still hard for me to talk about this loss and tragedy, but I wanted to leteveryone know about an online fundraising campaign to help Paul start putting his life back together withouthis wife and business partner. A recent update was sent to Costambar Monthly by the organizer Judy Palmer.It reads as follows A total of 1,015 has been raised to date. All has been converted to pesos and turned over to Paul, who wasvery thankful. Some additional pesos have been promised. Judy Palmer, a resident of Costambar since 2011,added the equivalent amount of the GoFundme fees in addition to organizing the campaign so that everypenny donated went to Paul. Thanks to everyone who contributed. If you still want to help, you can go to theGoFundMe website or contact Judy directly on Facebook or through Costambar -his-lifeI’ve been told that Paul has started rebuilding his bar and is grateful for all the donations. Thanks Judy for your efforts!Another concerned Costambar resident has reached out to me to urge people to not throw lit cigarette buttsout windows or on the ground as there was recently a fire near Los Mangos due to a person gathering mangosand throwing his butt in the grass. Staff thought they had it under control but the Fire Department had to becalled when it flared up again. Conditions are very dry right now due to a combination of lack of rain and lotsof wind. Please don’t burn garbage, garden trash or anything during the drought or throw lit cigarette buttswhere they can potentially start a fire. Thanks Jane for the heads up on this!There has been another bit of a kerfuffle concerning the Costambar Beach which had everyone worried againthat we would lose all the bars, restaurants and vendors we love. From what I have been able to find out atthis point, it only involved one person trying to stake a claim on the beach presumably to improve his businessprospects.When did we get so freaking popular? And why do people want to destroy the very things that makeCostambar what it is - if it ain’t broke don’t fix it - and for Costambarians and those who come to visit - ITAIN’T BROKE!
